The great lie of the Universal Christ

- The universal Christ is a term that has crept into churches, particularly with former evangelical Christians deconstructing and embracing this new theology. Here’s the thing though it's not new, it's old, and it resembles nothing of Jesus Christ. Watch the video to learn more.

Avoid all false teachings. Christ is as the Bible says the king of kings, the Savior, and the only way. God's word is true.
Sounds like just another way of resisting God as an external authority. God is God, and people are not. Admittedly this was difficult and took some time for me accept myself. To accept the Creator as an authority in your life is in fact a radically different world view, I know this first hand. But since I converted I have realized how people think. They just don't want to be accountable so they make things up to get around it.
And, once you know who Christ is, you'll be more than pleased to throw yourself at His feet. It's odd how much easier and deeper I can pray when kneeling.
Lucifarians often make fun of Kneelers, but they don't know the work of Christ that is being robbed from them.

If the enemy can't convince you to not believe in Christ, maybe he can just change your perception of whom ( or what) Christ is.
God doesn't embody the universe, but as creator, he controls his creation, the universe.
When people state that they don't believe in a God that would punish them, they take no accountability for their sins or their choices. God gives us free will and it is they who are choosing to reject him thus choosing eternity away from God, away from all that is good, righteous and holy. This place where God is not, is basically Hell, devoid of Love and everything that God's presence provides. It's easier to deny the real God then give up their sinful way of life, so they justify their sin with an ideology that allows them to live in sin. It will be terrifying to realize the consequences of how they chose to exercise their free will when it's too late. Amplified Bible 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold, and will turn their ears away from the truth and will wander off into myths and man-made fictions [and will accept the unacceptable].
I went out with friends from our church's singles group after church one night.

Single lady; Oh. What does that mean?
Single Know-it-all: (angrily) It means he believes in more than one god.
Me: No. It means I think God is in charge and everything will pan out.
Now, I know true pantheism is way wrong. I'm just a smart aleck.
Sounds like Obama - "You don't need a savior, just a strong government".
He and all the rest broke my heart.
"For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things. And they will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths" 2 Timothy 4:3-4
There will be always false interpretations of the scriptures, therefore we all need to study them continually and ask the Lord for guidance. Thanks for your input
The industry artists don’t exactly strike me as the most insightful people in the world. It’s unfortunate they haven’t noticed that these gnostic ideas make Christ quite a useless historical person. Teaching what Christ teaches, for example about the sheep and goats would not make him any sor t of universal Christ or good moral teacher. He hasn’t left that option available. Of course I’m paraphrasing c.s. Lewis. I’m not sure what is so compelling about Jesus if he is not every thing he said he is.
What these two musical artists said is not what being the body of CHRIST means. We may be the body of CHRIST as Christians, but that doesnt mean we are actually CHRIST. It means we act in HIS stead as HE would.

If you cannot see the Christ in every then you have not truly seen the Christ in anything.
It is He who exists in all things and through all things, and from whom and through whom and in whom all things exist- Romans 11:36
I have not looked deeply into this yet, but on the surface I get the feel that if everyone is the Christ including other religious figures, then are we not in danger of paving the way to the new world religion that comes during the time of the tribulation time frame?
That's the point.
Nobody who espouses these beliefs reads holy books, or studies theology. It's a universalism that buries the Gospel and conceals Jesus Christ.
Interestingly, it also serves to hide the beliefs of other religions and seeks to abduct Christian values and place them on other religions. The idea that God loves the world is uniquely Christian; it isn't a part of any other religion.
Pantheist universalism really differs from ultimate restoration that was held to in the early church before Roman inclusion. Christians today aren’t wrong to reject pantheists, but conserving Roman tradition isn’t much better.

Never thought of the story of Joshua/Israel and the promise land like that!! Very profound!!
@@louiseattzs me neither, and finding these nuggets is gold
I don't understand could you please explain?
@@babatunde7576 Conventional Christianity teaches that "The Good News" is that the messiah has risen. There is never any mention of the Old Testament origin of The Good News which can be found in Numbers chapter 14. The Good News was the report from Joshua and Caleb that encouraged the people to take possession of the promised land because God is on their side and no one can stand against them. The grumbling of the other spies is what caused God to punish the people to wander in the desert for 40 years. Only Joshua and Caleb were allowed to enter the promised land after the others had died.
That's not to say we should discount the 'good report' from others that the messiah died and has risen. But history and context matter. It's important to know that the history of the Israelites to our current day is part of a single, continuous plan that has recurring themes which will culminate in the ushering in of The Kingdom. I think a believer should understand their history better, and it should start with considering the viewpoint that the Jews were not replaced by the christians as the chosen people of God. Understanding the original report of The Good News as the encouraging and faithful position of Joshua and Caleb in the book of Numbers is a good example.

The above shows just why Christians need to sort out exactly what it takes to be saved. Ever since the time of Paul, when Christianity began to form and pull away from its Jewish roots, believers have been brawling over who represents the true Christian and who is the wolf in sheep's clothing. In fact, even within mainstream orthodoxy, these finger pointings occur - between Catholics and Protestants and Orthodox, between Calvinists and Arminians, between Trinitarians and anti-Trinitarians, and so on.
Clearly the bible is as clear as mud on this supposed important issue, and what it takes to be saved goes far wider than just an application of John 3:16.
Best to learn to be nice to each other and to live in peace. Sort your theologies out then come and tell the rest of us what you think we need to do or not to do, in order to be saved.

Well, this Is another sign of the things Jesus spoke of. The lies and deceptions that will fill the world during the end days. One thing Jesus spoke of the most, was warning us of these deceptions. Things will get sooooo bad that even believers will be deceived. Many walk through the path of destruction and few take the path of life.
The view of everyone being the Christ makes Jesus unimportant, and not at all worth listening to, but Jesus is the true Christ who came to take our place because of our sin. Jesus said "I am the way... No one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6 this assures us that Jesus is the savior of the world, it is about who he is, not anything we have done
Hello Nate Reath how are you doing today?
I'm pretty sure that Christians are only "one with Christ" in terms of purpose when they get saved.
The whole "God is me, God is you" deal since he is everywhere in everything and everyone, no matter who are, as long as you have life. If not for sin, God wouldn't mind in the slightest being one with every human on earth in everyway imaginable, but because of it that's not a good idea anymore.
That's where Jesus comes in. Being truly one with God and giving everyone the holy spirit so they can also be with him and be one with him. We can't beat sin on our own *(I've tried and failed miserably),* however the holy spirit gives us the power to do so. By the way, you're not getting into heaven unless either have *it* or have a perfect track record, and the ladder is impossible unless you died before you got the chance to sin.
Read the Bible, live in the word, do not be deceived, God bless you all in Christ Jesus name, Amen.
By this you know and recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ has [actually] come in the flesh [as a man] is from God [God is its source] 1 John 4:2 AMP. I don't remember this verse being mentioned. It is tragic so many people are deceived when the Bible is so clear. Jesus answered, “Be careful that no one misleads you [deceiving you and leading you into error]. Matthew 24:4 AMP. Pride blinds them of their sin.
Richard Rohr insulted me when he found out I was a celibate gay Catholic.
Jesus Christ went to the cross and now lives to set sinful you free from death and hell. Repent and turn your heart to Him before it’s too late. Say yes!

I really don't get why you are against the Universal Christ, it has is roots in Paul
great breakdown
The universal Christ is same "Body of Christ" nonsense I was exposed to in the first grade 65 years ago. Nothing has changed.
I prefer the First Law of Thermodynamics.
Unfortunately for Protestants, these attacks on Richard Rohr show how heterodox and disconnected Protestantism is from the first millennium of Christianity. Although I do think Rohr sometimes gets dangerously close to Nestoriansim, still, the idea of a universal Christ is so common to early Christianity. Saint Maximus the Confessor wrote endlessly about how Christ exists in all things and that his incarnation transformed creation. He argued that everything, especially humans, true nature was Christ (Logoi) which is given through grace and that the act of becoming oneself was to become like Christ. There are so many early Christian writers who demonstrate this like Dionysus the Areopagite, Saint Symoen the New Theologian, and Gregory Palamas. Its manily Origen and Augustine who take the view, that Western Christianity took up, that the world is so fallen and God is very separated from the world due to this fall. Instead of calling him New Age, actually do some research into early Christianity and you will be very surprised at how different it is from the protestant and catholic forms of Christianity today.
Sounds like the first lie the devil told Adam and Eve. You can be like God
How could the universe be the body of God when it’s not eternal and infinite?
I’m confused….does god live in the light or in darkness?
The Bible says many will fall away
I mean maybe I'm missing something, but this sounds extremely similar to St. Maximus' view on Christ. In this view the chair isn't Christ because somehow Christ in only chair, but the chair has a logoi or purpose, and each of these logoi finally find their place within Christ. Even you and I have a logoi which finds its place in Christ and the mission of all things is to achieve their logoi. The goal of the logoi is to be miniature instantiations of the logos, which is Christ. So we aren't Christ, but our logoi is in communion with Christ and it beckons us to him.
Sure. It’s God’s sovereign will. You can look up ultimate restoration if you haven’t before. There are some good books covering it. But it illustrates your point.
Pantheism which is pretty prevalent in new age thought however removes God from the throne in your example, and equates Christ merely to consciousness; rather having knowledge of good and evil. It’s adversarial and in competition to God’s ultimate will. But even in God’s ultimate will, he allows for Himself to have an adversary in order to glorify His Son through producing overcomers.
“Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
John 10:7-9
Pretty exclusive to me. Jesus did not studder here, and he meant what he said. He is the only way to salvation.
Looking at this in the perspective of the universal Christ, I believe they would take that passage to mean Jesus' teachings are the only way, not Jesus himself as a sacrifice for humanity. In other words, Jesus' message of peace and love is the only way to Heaven, not necessarily believing in Jesus.
@Sephora Ndaya Mutubile Looking at Jesus life, he didn't really make a big deal about belief in him for Heaven. Many times it was "What does Moses and the law say?" And the answer was: demonstrate love to others. There was no mention of a sacrificial savior.
@Sephora Ndaya Mutubile It's true. Jesus' teachings reflected more of Judaism than of Christianity: Worshipping God/obeying God as the means of pleasing Him and obtaining Heaven. It isn't until near the end of Jesus' life that the idea of a sacrificial Messiah came into play, and that wasn't even Jesus' own teaching if I remember correctly. Later in the Epistles the sacrificial Messiah is confirmed, but Jesus' own teachings reflected more of Judaism than of Christianity.
@Sephora Ndaya Mutubile Then I guess I can't understand.
@Sephora Ndaya Mutubile Why or how can I accept Jesus as my Savior if it's impossible for me to understand the Bible?
It’s a trick by the devil to make people feel justified in claiming themselves as the god of their life. That way they can do whatever they want and feel no guilt. Stay weary fellow believers!
Any one who thinks God is mean and petty for dealing out punishment probably has A LOT of skeletons in their closet and wants to justify their wickedness
Christ means messiah
Interesting video but based in the legalistic tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Nothing can exist outside of Christ and there is only one Spirit of which we all live and move and have our being in.
Why are they even using the word "Christ" in the first place? Call it "weird spiritual super guru" or something. The Christ is the anointed, hebrew Meshiach, Messiah, w/e transliteration you wanna go with.
Cyrus was called Meshiach when he was anointed by God. The idea gained added significance in the minds of Jews during the intertestamental period, where there had been people anointed for a specific task, the Jews began to look for "the anointed one". A son of David who would come and conquer the world.
There's no evidence whatever that the term can just be applied haphazardously across the board, it's someone who's been anointed with a duty and role. There's no passivity to it.
I mean w/ that in mind you might make the argument, "yes and the Buddha and Muhammad were also anointed for spiritual tasks", but then the question becomes "well what task?" If they deny the fall and separation from God, why anoint spiritual leaders to bring us back? And maybe there's some argument to be made that the gentiles had spiritually anointed folks, there's plenty of people who read Paul's encounter w/ the transcription "to the unknown god" in Acts that way, but there's no room Biblically to equalize them w/ Jesus.
Either Jerusalem is a city on a hill or it's not. Either they're the nation of priests specially chosen as God's people or they're not. There's an exclusivity that's wrapped up in the whole of the Bible that can't be easily glossed over. But I know New Age people, because I used to run in those circles, they'll jump to the gnostic interpretation "The God of the Old Testament is not the same as the God that Jesus preaches, he came to show everyone they're wrong with all their rules and stuff."
That's a whole long debate, but fun fact on it if anyone's looking for quick counterarguments to gnosticism (I know this isn't directly relevant, but it's cool so I wanna share), my Hebrew teacher just told me this the other day: "In the beginning (bereshit) bara (created) Elohim (God)" those are the first words in Genesis, "in the beginning God created..." but interestingly, "bara" is only used with God, whether it's "Elohim" or the divine name (YHVH), but never with anyone else. We get words that are translated as created sometimes, but are not "bara" which debunks the gnostic notion that the God of the Old Testament is "the demiurge", a mere craftsman of the universe, subject to Sophia and some higher more abstract deity.
The gnostics grabbed hold of the Septuagint and missed these little details & just ran with it, creating new hooplah as they did.
Subject to Sophia? I'm unfamiliar with this heresy.
Also, where did you get your learning? I'm getting to the point where I really need to start studying the original Hebrew of the Torah, or at least start talking with people who are very familiar with it.
@@JB-rg8si the Sophia thing is part of some gnostic sects, where the “Sophia” (wisdom) of God is a female deity that stands above the craftsman of the world, but even she is subject to a higher deity.
I appreciate the question! I got my MA in biblical and theological studies, but in just a short masters program you’ll only get a little general knowledge, so I just really recommend saying “okay who do scholars read?” And reading them.
Im forrtunate that the school I teach at has a Hebrew teacher who tutors me & my boss knows Greek pretty well, but since most people aren’t in that situation, you might want to find a course on Hebrew they have some online. But my teacher found something awesome that was a huge incentive - if you learn the top 100 words of the Bible in Hebrew then you have 50% of the content of the Old Testament, so you can get a LOT done in a relatively short time if you take that approach.
If you end up self-educating and are interested in Christian history, Eusebius church history, Josephus antiquities & wars of the Jews, geza vermes translation of the Dead Sea scrolls, the nag hammadi library, and lightfoot’s “the apostolic fathers” are nearly all of the primary sources we have.
Good luck! I love that you’re interested in this stuff, if you get stuck feel free to comment here or PM me.
You can believe whatever you want about Christianity so long as you distort, reject or ignore the doctrines of the New Testament. But then again, we know nothing about the one true real Christ without it. If the ministry of Jesus wasn't a seminal event in history and his resurrection never took place, Christianity would have never come about. No one has been able to repeat those feats no matter how much they claim to be 'a Christ'.
That's a very good point. Christianity didn't spring out of nowhere. Apply simple cause and effect and you reach the logical conclusion that Christ's Resurrection really happened. 2 men could hallucinate a resurrected man. Maybe even 3, although that would be a stretch. But 11 men, including Thomas who was just about the most sceptical person you could imagine? And that's not even counting the women who discovered the empty tomb or the 500 witnesses that Paul reported. The question is not whether Jesus rose from the dead. The question is, to quote Doctor N.T. Wright, what are you going to do about it? This is a question I've been struggling with because I have no logical reason to reject the Resurrection and I almost wish that I did.
@@tomnorton4277 I love what you've said here. I came to the conclusion that I'm going with Jesus when I used simple logic of what end I'd rather live with. If I serve Jesus and He exists, eternal heaven. If I serve Jesus and He doesn't exist, I still think I was a good person, just no drugs, alcohol, sleeping all over the place, etc. If I don't serve Jesus and He exists, eternal hell. If I don't serve Jesus and He doesn't exist, I just did whatever I wanted--and there's something about that option of doing whatever I wanted that doesn't sit right with me, simply because, what if everyone simply did whatever they wanted...good or bad...idk...
The number one problem with the "universal christ" is that it devalues Jesus' death and resurrection. It also ignores what Jesus said, that there is no way to God except through Him.
Good video
Im new to religion, what does progressive christianity mean?
It's a mix between Christianity and all the SJW/intersectional woke nonsense that's going around right now. Use some Christian words, deny the divinity of Jesus Christ, practice Eastern philosophy. Rinse, repeat. It's not really a new heresy, but it's dangerous because it seems to be Christian to believers who are weak in faith or inexperienced.
@@JB-rg8si can you give me atleast one doctrine from them? So that I can understand more
@@alphaecho3875 They honestly don't really have "doctrines", it's somewhat antithetical to the movement. Doctrines would require study.
Their theology doesn't go much deeper than those "coexist" bumper stickers you see everywhere. They're secular humanists with a thin veneer of Christianity. They're very worried about fitting in with modern culture, which is where the problem starts. When you see people rejecting the Bible because it doesn't fit in with (X) cultural norm, you've found progressive Christianity.
It looks like the same false doctrines are refried every 10-20 years.
If my chair is the cosmic Christ then He sure makes my butt hurt...LOL
