- Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said the threat social media poses to children requires urgent action, and he demanded Congress to put a label on the apps as it does with cigarettes and alcohol.

Another thing it does is make kids socially illiterate. As stupid as it sounds I notice a lot of kids look at their phones while walking to avoid any social interaction. Get outside and enjoy life instead of playing on your phones.

They're just figuring this out now? I quit social media in 2020, and i haven't looked back. I'm so much happier, and have less stress, and I''m 37! I can just imagine what its doing to adolescents and teens.

The warning labels on cigarettes and alcohol do nothing. Why are we humans so dumb? A warning label should mean something. (Don't mix certain chemicals, etc.) Y'all have choking hazard warnings on common sense things and if parents can't discern those risks using their own common sense, they shouldn't be multiplying anyway. You shouldn't need a warning label on a grill for instance, that says "Hot!" Social media, is not the same risk as substances you can consume. It can be good, benign, and harmful BUT it's up to a parent to learn how to parent their kids and teach them safety, responsibility, etc. It's not everyone else's job to raise them. If you want to be a helicopter parent, put that parent spyware on your kids devices.

I think parents should have to sign a waiver for every kid under 16 who gets a smart phone. There are tons of safety features parents can set up to monitor and keep kids safe but most just hand the phone over without a thought. It's crazy how many parents try to justify kids needing smart phones, clearly parents don't want to put their own phones down.
