- But will we ever be able to visit this galactic neighbour. What are the challenges and possibilities of intergalactic travel. And what would we find? if we ever reached Andromeda. Well, lets find out.
The first challenge of traveling to Andromeda, is the sheer distance involved. Even at the speed of light, it would take 2.5 million years to get there. That means that any spacecraft that we send today would arrive in Andromeda by the time our galaxy and Andromeda would have already collided, as predicted by astronomers.

It is enough if the theoretical spaceship can achieve 99.9 percent of the speed of light... For the spacecraft to reach that speed with an acceleration equal to 1g it will need one year to reach that speed...When the spacecraft will reach 99.9 percent of the speed of light, time dilation will do its thing, so no problem with the flow of time... But the problem ar micrometeorites and the Doppler shift will be so big that radiation in front will be in the range of gamma rays, so it will need incredible shields...And an additional year to decelerate. So in 2 years, one can reach the spot, but for everything outside time will pass 2.5 million years... And no, Andromeda will not collide with Milkey Way in 2.5 million years.
Meanwhile Voyager 1 will need 17,000 years to be 1 light year away from Earth. I predict humans willl be able to do something feasible with Mars or/and the Moon but reaching another Galaxy? Forget it
Let humankind do its thing and reach higher advancements by themselves. We aren’t anywhere close to the end of the journey as we are just the starting point (or mid point or nobody knows, it’s gonna be determined by future generations) for future generations to handle the growing population of humanity.

even at Star Trek TNG's Warp 9 which has been figured to be 1,516 times the speed of light, Andromeda is still 1,650 years away.

Alcubierre showed that mathematically warp speed is possible.
Ignoring the movement of Andromeda towards the Milky Way, if my calculations are correct, it would take 28 trillion years to get to Andromeda at a typical driving speed of 60 mph. And the worst part would be trying to find a gas station with a restroom!

Wormhole theory says you can travel billions of light years in an instant, but is there a way to travel faster than light, as in 100 times or 100,000 times faster. I'm thinking that we would figure that out long before we can make wormholes. At 100,000 times light speed it would still take a year to cross the galaxy and 20 years to get to Andromeda. Only 2 days to get to Alpha Centauri. Luckily there are enough habitable planets with a few months travel to keep us busy for a long time. No need to go to Andromeda until we check out all of the habitable planets here.

@@Kbxbigbro808 Folks were thinking that until the 1920s, but better telescopes were made and scientists found out that those strange "nebulas" they were watching with older weaker telescopes are in fact separate galaxies. It is estimated that only in the visible part of the universe there are about 2 trillion galaxies.
