  • Sometimes we see things with our eyes, but they happen so fast, we don't even realize what actually happened. Only through high-speed photography can we understand what occurred. Here, a Northern Harrier chases down a Short-eared Owl and steals the prey in midair. Northern Harriers are large raptors and you may not expect them to be as fast, agile and aerobatic as these photographs reveal. The entire sequence of photographs was captured in exactly 1 second! The Northern Harrier, flying upward toward the owl, completely flipped its body in midflight, rotating 360 degrees, as it reaches up and snatches the prey in just half a second! Imagine the precision, strength and timing it took for the Harrier to perform that seemingly impossible maneuver in a fraction of a second! Incredible!
