This song is one of the most powerful pledges any country has. It still brings tears to my eyes 50+ years after learning and having to sing it at assembly in primary school. If only Jamaicans would heed the words to action... God bless us
Each time I hear this song. I cry non stop. Its the love for this country. And praying things happening now will stop. United we stand, divided we fall. Team JA fi life. I hope they sing this in schools. They use to. Blessings 🙌 🙌 🙌
Oh God, Big up Jamaica. Trust me i am from Nigeria, but Usain Bolt made me to research more about this country and from now just changed my perspective about the Jamaicans. You guys are very nice and good. I love your national anthem, every word has a very useful meaning. I hope u keep the future generation will keep the legacy going, and the useless Media will change the view of Jamaicans to most Nigerians. God bless Jamaica, God bless Usain Bolt and God bless the Black Race. Keep the spirit.
A large majority of Jamaicans are of Nigerian and Ghanian ancestry, including myself. Jamaican born but when I did my ancestry I am 46% Nigerian, 23% Ghanian, 13 Mali, 10% Cameroon etc.
Going to Primary school in the late 70 was a joy for us as children to sing this song. Back then their was national pride to be a Jamaican, Where have all that pride gone? Do they still sing this songs in school? Love my national song.
I am Jamaican, born and bred. Having lived in CA for the last 35 years. The realization that is evident is that Jamaicans, like people from other Third World Countries here in the US are often stereotyped as weed smokers , dunces and ignorant. Truth is, Jamaicans are on a whole are a proud, loyal, generous, sincere, trustworthy, kind and intelligent people. We are also brought up strict sense of morals and are taught to value others and to put our Heavenly Father at the fore front of all we do. Through these basic principles we are taught perseverance and the value of hard work through sacrifice. And, so you all know, we value education and high ideals. Weed smoking is not practiced by all Jamaicans. Weed or what we call Ganja was never present in our home while growing up. Get It Right!!!
I second this being a resident in CA as well. It's the intelligence in us that raises our heads high regardless of the stereotypical views. While there are some who deserve such descriptions, you realize that this has nothing to do with nationality but the of oneself and surroundings. Nuff wutlis CAs deh bout to! #proudjamaican.
In terms of weed smokers per capita, Jamaica is somewhere near the middle, with the US, Israel, and Canada included in the countries where weed smoking is more prevalent. Who knows how stereotypes are formed, but what is sure, stereotypes often say more about the psychology of the stereotyper than the targets.
I get goosebumps whenever I hear this anthem. It's almost like a call to action. We are so much better than we have allowed ourselves to be. We need a better Jamaica not for the rest of the world but for us. We need to restore that pride that made us ever so proud to be Jamaicans 🇯🇲
You can take me out a de Country, but you cannot take the country out a me. BORN A JAMAICA, JAMAICAN FOR LIVE. Love the PLEDGE. I TEACH IT TO MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE STATE.
Oh Jamaica land how much we love thee, the Black gold and green. The tears of sadness shower my eyes as I wonder where has all the love gone?🖤💚💛 I'm Jamaica's Inspirational poet Bill M Burton One love Respect every time.
A beautiful rendition and which is actually The National Song (For Schools) set to the music of the English song "I vow to Thee my country". The (Jamaica) National Pledge is a poem/recitation not set to music and begins thus, " Before God and all mankind I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart, the wisdom and courage of my mind.........."
you know I'm 22 years of age and I did not know it's,"oh green Isle of the indies" I always thought it was,"oh green I love the indies." it's a shame😟😟 love my jamaica boy! miss home😣😣 # lovely #God's grandeur
Oh my god!!! i have to stop playing this song in order to stop crying. This song bring back so many years of memories from when i attended Rio Bueno all age school. We would sing this song every morning in devotion. I live in the U.S now but there is no place like my homeland, JAMAICA.
@@MsViva710 Ahh those days ... lol. School kids were given a small Jamaican flag along with the Independence tea cups, the drinking glass, the plates, all with Jamaica's coat of arms printed on them. I was a child but remember it well.
Who are the people giving this thumbs down? You must not be Jamaican. Regardless of what is going on in Ja. it's still our country. Even though I now reside in the US I am Jamaican through and through.
No place like home, Jamaica!!!! The ethics of our country cannot be compared. Living abroad but I'm all Jamaican. Had it not been for the ethics inculcated in me from "mi eyee deh a mi knee" I would not be standing today. Thank God for my country Jamaica, if they (Government) continue to do right as back in the days our nation's children and families should do well. We are called to be a peculiar people. Its so long all i remember is the familiar words and tune. dont remember if it s the pledge or the song. thanks for sharing. Were yo there when We got independence. what do you remember of the celebration. were you a child in school like me?
Awesome! Well said. I was just saying the same thing after singing these lyrics and conjuring memories of yesteryear. This was predominately sang at school events. While the pledge is a spoken vow and of course, everyone knows the National Anthem. Thanks Andrea.
Dear Ministry of Education of Jamaica, this is the National Song, not the National Pledge. Please change the caption. You are the Ministry of Education after all.
My eyes are wet. I get sad listening to these dear children I remember when we got independent I was school age. Crime was nothing like it is now. We weren't afraid of crime walking at night so much as scary looking shadows in the dark and the " rolling calf" which I never encountered but heard stories. Which now that I'm old I dont believe. Lol. God help us here and the world over. Jesus soon come fi Him faithful pickney dem.
Jamaica National Pledge is Before God and all mankind I pledge the love and loyalty of my heart the wisdom and courage of my mind the strength and vigor of my body in the service of my fellow citizens i promise to stand up for justice brotherhood and peace to work diligently and creatively to think generously and honestly so that Jamaica may under God increase in beauty fellowship and prosperity and play her part in advancing the welfare of the whole human race.
Natrlgrl you are correct because I was looking for the pledge too. But this was so beautiful I listened to it several times, dwelling in memories and rejuvenated promises, before moving on.
This (The National Song) and the National Song For Schools "We Build Our School" ( not unique to Jamaica; it was really The Commonwealth Song For Schools in the British Commonwealth), I always loved. The beauty of the National Pledge is that it transcends the trite tenets of patriotism and can be spoken of with great meaning even by a non-patriot comme moi.
Little Jamaican children, pledging before God to be loyal to Jamaica Land we Love. If only more us ADULTS had such a heart and mind! At least---thank God---we can see such national love and patriotic respect in the Jamaican athletes!
That is a question most are shying away from, while others seem oblivious to the social decay taking place in the society; but if we are to recapture the days when there was true patriotism in Jamaicans, then we must answer that question and collectively do everything to bring back honor and dignity to the "Green isles of the Indies." And whether you are Jamaicans at home or abroad, we cannot be satisfied with the current state of affairs.
I really love my Jamaica and this our national song brings back fun memories of Jamaica I can't say that it is still anymore ,as a line in the song says oh green isles of the indies Jamaica strong and free it makes you cry to see the state we are now in where is our love and loyalty to the beautiful island Jamaica that we call home
