  • In this video I'll share an amazing Hobby-Hack with you. You can remove most all suction cups and replace them with waterproof magnets. This will hold your equipment so much better and makes cleaning them less of a chore.

    Incredible. I knew someone on youtube would have the answer to end my pains with the pumps, the heater and anything ever that had a suction cup :D

    Thank you! I was having trouble putting the suction cups onto my filter unit. This is my first time setting up an aquarium. So, I’m very happy to have found your tutorial. I can’t wait to try it!

    Never had any issues with suction cups on an Eheim skimmers. They actually hold pretty well compared to other brands out there. I would actually be worried of gluing a magnet behind the skimmer for 2 reasons. 1. Magnetic field of the magnet could interfere with the impeller motor. 2. Glue could eventually detach due to vibrations.

      @Chantz_the_Scaper  Před 3 lety +2

      I've had multiple issues with them as well as other suction cups. As for the magnetic field... I've had the skimmer running with magnets in it for 4 years now, no issues. As for the glue, I use this same glue to hold 40 lb Seiryu Stone together in competition scapes. I have a strong trust in it as it's never failed. To each their own though.

      @@Chantz_the_Scaper All the cyanoacrylate glue I have ever used in scapes eventually becomes brittle and detaches. Usually takes around a year more less.

      @@polanskiman I admit, in scapes I use jet set with the superglue, so that may help the scapes survive. I however don't use it when I modify equipment and I've luckily had zero "fails"... So far. Either way, my negative experience with suction cups far outweighs my concern of the glue failing.
      I went on vacation once and the suction cup on my powerhead failed and for 1 week it was flapping around in my aquarium. My filter had so much substrate particles in it that the impeller was jammed and burnt out the motor. All this because of a suction cup failure.

      @@Chantz_the_Scaper i don't know how i feel about using superglue inside my aquarium. Won't the glue just dissolve. And won't it be poisoning my fish???

      @Chantz_the_Scaper  Před 3 lety +2

      @@gloriouschannel3683 nope. It's non toxic and won't be an issue. It's used in reef tanks as well. Has been for decades.

      Probably true. I haven't noticed any difference and the skimmer ran for about 2 years until I broke it down. The skimmer is not on another setup doing just fine.
