My bets on who the young queen that'll overthrow Cersei is Arianne Martell and Aegon "Young Griff" technically is a younger brother but Jaime arriving in KL only to be stuck in The Red Keep and besieged kills Cersei to prevent her from blowing up KL makes more sense.
I read they dropped House Of The Dragons and are only producing Dunk n Egg and that story about the children of the forest.
@Javid Seyad Ahmed The Children of The Forest series was called Blood Moon and it was about The Long Night.
Please make more ASOIAF related videos
Are you Q Tetra X?
Bloodraven: Treason is no less vile because the traitor proves a craven.
also Bloodraven: lord butterbutt lmao
Eyyyyyy, nice to see you here, angry boy!
i was commanded, not begged, to like this comment
Guys, I think it’s Internet Historian.
Oh hey Glidus
If I had a nickel for every time Dunk threatened to give Egg a “clout in the ear” I’d have enough money to fund a third blackfire rebellion.
It seems that Third blackfyre rebellion has happened without ur funding good ser
Maester wearing Egg's old hat is a very important detail.
I think it has a relation with the three eyed raven or the night king
I think it's adorable
it's the direct cause of the tragedy of summerhall
Spoiler alert:
It foreshadows the death of The Night King, at the hands of Wolverine Stark
explain pls dont get it? :/
You forgot to mention HOW Ser Glendon Ball ( [edit] or rather Ser Glendon FLOWERS, assuming that Ser Quentyn even was his father) won the trial by battle;
Dunk told him to use a *tourney* lance, which was longer than the *war* lance that Daemon used and thus would reach it's target quicker.
That was a trick Dunk had learned from prince Baelor in his own trial way back in his first book, The Hegde Knight. So Dunk might not be to bright, but he learns from experience...
"I'm a slow learner, that's true. But I learn." ... show!Sansa
It might also play to the poetry of the scene: a dragon falls when the tourney lance was last used in a battle for life and death; a dragon rises when the same blunted instrument is used in a similar battle.
Also shows Dunk's tendency towards mercy, I think.
Oh thats such a good detail!
Fight smart, not hard
To even exchange the tourney lances you were supplied with for the tourney to a proper war lance just for the trial, when it clearly isn't fought to the death anyhow... seems needlessly bloodthirsty, when you're not even out for vengeance. Plus, even if fought to the death, unseating your opponent will leave them quite vulnerable to be slain afterwards, if that were necessary.
“One more word, and I will rip your tongue out by its roots!”
“You lie. That’s two words.”
What a line
I don’t get it
@j00st00s After 'you', Dunk said 'lie' and he wasn't seized and had his tongue removed by the end of that sentence.
Yeah. Dunk is supposed to be stupid but he has extremely quick and good wit.
@Elonif It must be tough writing a "not that smart" character when you're as smart as George.
@Elonif Warrior intellect activates when there is nothing but contempt for death
I just realized, when you mentioned that Bloodraven is heavily inspired by odin; Bloodraven "combined" himself with a tree to gain full sight of the Old Gods and Odin "pinned" himself to Yggdrasil with his spear and bled for 7 days to gain the power of magic. The similarity is just crazy
If there's anything I learned about stories and literature, its that there's always a character that ends up either being Odin or based on him in some way.
I call it the "Oops, All Odin Theory"
@Matt Shannon I mean he is able to change his appearance and he is also know to be a trickster, it's almost in character for him to appear where you expect him the least :D
Tolkien was also heavily inspired by Odinnic myths when he made the character of Gandalf, particularly the ones about Odin traveling around and visiting people's houses disguised as an old man in a grey cloak.
There's also the whole "Odin is a pagan god"/Brynden Rivers uses the ways of The Old Gods.
I say "uses" rather than "follows" because Brynden clearly borrows magical tricks used by Mel, a priestess of the monotheistic Red God religion. I'd be unsurprised by the Three-eyed Crow showcasing knowledge and ability in the sorceries of other faiths, too. There's that whole "Bran wasn't the first kid Brynden summoned his way" thing with Euron Greyjoy, and Euron's ended up with his own multi-classing faith magic system going on while he tries at becoming a living god (which is what the Singers seem to treat Brynden as being).
I forget who's supposed to off Odin come Ragnarok but, like, we have giants both Literal and figurative running about Westeros if need be AND mythic prophecy wolves besides! If [Wun-Wun?], The Mountain, The Hound, or Brienne aren't free to be Literal Giants, there's Literally Anyone Associated With Braavos such as the Faceless Men, mercenaries, the Iron Bank... and there's Littlefinger or, more probably, Sansa, through disguise or seizure of the dude's sigil and criminal empire (before she retakes House Stark's direwolf head or she embroiders herself a new, personal sigil without any giants).
.....
If HBO was smart, they would hire Alt Shift X to do post-show discussions. And not restricted to Game of Thrones. The video on Raised by Wolves was great.
May run into similar issues Amazon had when ASX did The Expanse explanation videos in that few people watched the videos on their channel.
ASX, would it have been possible at the time to put out a 30 second video on your channel that explained you made a new video and linked to the Amazon Prime Video UK video?
Seriously! It’s insane how good some of these CZcams channels are. You’d expect them to all be hired ASAP to do some work for the show runners.
This could reopen an old Avenue in marketing.
I remember a couple years ago game devs or movie studios would contract CZcamsrs and other influencers to make informative posts about their stories lore.
Veritasium did one for Hunger Games: Mockingjay where he pretended to be a district four scientist but also actually taught science.
They could do the same things with channels that are lore master's like ASX and I'd watch that any day over some of the boring stuff they're putting out as an afterthought.
They can’t do that because everyone who watches the show and hasn’t read the books would be as pissed off as we all are when Alt Shift X reveals how great the script could have been before wrecked it with lazy writing
Agreed on both accounts!
I think I've decided that Bloodraven is my favorite historical character in the ASOIAF universe. Even excluding the whole Three-Eyed Crow thing, even if you treat that as a separate character, Bloodraven is great. He has the ruthless, cutthroat political sense of Tywin and Stannis, he's got magical powers like Bran, he's a bastard who fights for the good of the realm like Jon, he's a spymaster like Varys, he's got the Targaryen connection, he's motivated by love, family and duty, like Ned, and he has deep flaws related to his paranoia and prejudice, not unlike his cousin, Aerys II, The Mad King.
He's like a microcosm for all the best and most interesting traits that make characters on ASOIAF so interesting and fun.
And he is a son of Ice and Fire who turned into leader of the Night's Watch, just like Jon and after he's resurrected, Jon will maybe look like BloodRaven because of his ability of warging into Ghost!
Aerys the 2nd isnt his cousin. Thats Aerys the first
And weirwood enchanted arrows he wields
@Dan iel And being a cool uncle of sorts to Egg and seeing greatness in Dunk, despite his ruthlessness.
Yes he is very nice and good person who loves common people so much he does nothing to protect them in plague, what a man! He killed his ugly traitor brother, what a hero! He feeds Bran paste made from Brans friend Jojen, what a Masterchef!
I like the idea that maynard is bloodraven in disguise and that bloodraven is taking his job of impersonating a hedge knight and spying at the wedding as an opportunity to have some fun drinking with the guys and make sexsiest jokes
It really adds to his character in my opinion: hes not just this mysterious scary looking sorcerer creep, hes also a guy who was probably treated as a freak and outcast his whole life for being a bastard and albino and probably had a very lonely life which he ia trying to make up for now
One of the things that I love about the ASoIaF stories/books, is how there is always something else going on behind it all; there are layers of stories, secrets and mysteries stacked on top of eachother.
This is impossible to translate to a tv show.
I love the possible connections between the plots like Dunk having romance with The Old Nun(she wasn't that old then) and by that he can be ancestor to Hodor:)
@MisiuM Also the romance between Dunk (Brienne's ancestor) and Rohanne Webber (Jaime's great-grandmother)
S1-4 of GOT proved it is possible, under writers who actually give a shit.
callmecatalyst While the end of S6 is definitely very well made, I wouldn’t say it redeems a pretty nonsensical season.
callmecatalyst Jeez dude there’s no need to get so angry. TWOW will definitely come out in the next few years, GRRM has said he’s done so much work on it over lockdown. Frankly I’d rather get a good book later than a shitty one earlier.
It just occured to me that I'm surprisingly more interested in seeing the continuation of the Dunk and Egg stories than I am in the main ASOIF series. Maybe I'm attracted to the comparatively smaller scale nature of the stories, maybe the fact that so many of these stories have been hinted at a history in the main series and supplemental material, or maybe I just don't like ice zombies. Either way I hope Martin has the chance to finish telling these characters stories.
Same. The main series will never be finished so I'd rather just get more Dunk and Egg stories instead.
It's just a much more streamlined story, with a set endpoint (Egg becomes King or Summerhall), making it so much easier to enjoy the journey, rather than wondering about the end
Mewtwo- Japan's greatest philosopher
The circumstance of one’s birth are irrelevant
platonik filofOz You're right.
Children are born as blank slates. Think of a computer with no data on file. Then you slowly fill it up, except unlike a computer you can't just delete shit.
That's why it's so easy for children to learn instruments, languages, etc at early age but it's damn near impossible for a 30+ year old to get those same things unless as you said, they're willing to learn and dedicate themselves.
@Wiseacres Not actually true. Children only have an advantage when learning languages, etc. because they _have tons of free time_ and _aren't afraid of looking foolish._ An adult with both of those will out-learn a child every time because they understand what it is they're learning and just have more experience in learning things.
But...Pokemon aren’t meant to philosophise...not like this..
Walder Frey: Ruining other peoples weddings for 90 years!
Holy shit, I did not clock that the annoying Frey child was Walder Frey when I read the book.
It's weird seeing him having use of his legs lol
@Tatigan Well, that was the most obvious relation between the 3rd Dunk & Egg book and ASoIaF, you just need to count which year was it in (211 AC) - fits perfectly
He needs a kid named Finger who will say "Walduh" and all 6 million of his children and grandchildren turn up instantly. This would really complete the books I think.
LOL 😆
“Brienne’s story echoes Dunk’s story”
... KING PODRICK
Podrick the unlikely would be an unstatement
After all, who has a better story than Podrick
Someone who walks into a brothel with a honeycomb and a jackass... :P
Podrick would have been such a better king...
Pod the Rod, girthier than a castle wall.
This story is honestly so hype. It includes all the best elements of ASOIAF: politics, scheming, prophecy, magic, heroism and Bloodraven. Great video, I wish there was more stuff to cover. Maybe Fire and Blood?
exactly, that's why I love the dunk and egg tales so much.. they condense everything I love of the main series in a single, super entertaining, fun to read book. I wish we can at least get the story at winterfell and also the one where they go to Essos..
The artist for this novel really made Bloodraven look like a vampire
Thats how he's described in the book
@Jasper Forge I know he's an albino and quite pale but I didn't expect him to look THAT grey and pale
It looks very dated.
Targaryen armor would fit any bloodknight or vampire
Hahahsagh
One thing not mentioned in this video that I hadn't caught in earlier readings, is that Bloodraven totally threatens to kidnap young Aegon due to conflict between Bloodraven and Aegon's father Maekar, and there's a lot of subtle verbal underplay between the two of them about what would happen if Bloodraven tried to do such a power play. Basically, Bloodraven concedes that it's not worth the risk.
Aegon father's is Maekar, mate
@Kriegerdammerung Whoops! What a mistake to make! Will correct.
"As a Japanese philosopher once said" had me full on bent over laughing like a hyena. Nicely done
Mewtwo is my favorite philosopher of the Edo period.
More like Heisei era
#Mewtwo
Idk why but I really laught a lot at that joke
I thought he was from Kanto period.
"Koffing!" - Koffing, Meiji restoration era philosopher.
In the section on parallels between Dunk and Brienne, you missed two which are closely linked. The names of their squires have similar meanings - an egg and a pod are both containers within which you usually find an embryonic life form, either an animal or a plant respectively - and both Egg and Pod transform into massively more confident people over the course of the books, fulfilling the potential their names imply.
Brynden Rivers/Blood Raven is such an interesting character. I love this type of characters which are despised by the many for their appearance or their alleged malfeasance even though they are serving the greater good. Brendyn Rivers is highly intelligent, competent and cunning and use all sorts of means and knowledge for the good of the realm. I'd love to see/read more of him. Thanks Alt Shift X for yet another great analysis :)
Brynden, my lord Florent. Brynden.
@Nikhil Iyengar You're perfectly right ! I corrected it. It's quite a shame to praise a character and to butcher its name ^^
He is the best character in ASOIAF,the most interesting. He is a bastard who has come into power,a very daunting sight as hes described as an albino with red eyes and a red winestain birthmark,a sorcerer who practices dark magic,he is the lover of the most beautiful woman who ever existed,he is literally a son of ice and fire,he becomes both kings hand and lord commander,he is ruthless and intelligent, and also the three eyed raven
The "greater good" of House Targaryen, that is.
"How do you do, fellow hedge knights?" has me laughing too much at work.
I know, right? If you're going to pretend to be a hedge knight, try to not be so obvious :)
Dunk and Egg’s escapades are my favorite A Song of Ice and Fire side stories. They’re so well written and well paced. Super intriguing, great characters, action. All around fun.
0:31
My favorite scene from The Sworn Sword is when Dunk mouthes the word “clout in the ear” and Egg grins at him. Absolutely priceless !
I enjoy these novellas more than some of the books just because the character building is a lot more concise and they’re likable
the novellas are far more digestible
Oh god I cant tell you how long I laughed at that Japanese philosopher joke.
I've truly come to love Martin's use of prophecies being misinterpreted. So often in fantasy they're so cut and dry, but in the Westeros stories, one can cause so much harm by personal interpretation of dreams and prophecies. Martin is a former Catholic and Catholic theologians actually warn against committing wrongs based on personal revelations. One theologian I met said one should just live their life as best as possible and if the revelation is part of God's plan, it will just happen naturally. Yet in Martin's stories, we see the consequences of when peoples try to force their revelations to be made reality. It reminds me of how Dunk says he doesn't know what the morrow brings, only that he can live his life as best as possible
Call me crazy, but I really don’t think we’re going to get all those novella’s from George. I doubt we ever even get A Dream of Spring at this point.
it’s not crazy. many people think that because he keeps announcing he’s writing other stories or scripts for tv. he’s probably written the whole main story but is having trouble connecting the dozens of intricate plot lines and conspiracy’s going on. he’s essentially written himself into a corner.
There's no way we're getting ADOS. We'll probably get TWOW within the next year... two years... five years... who tf knows, but I think we'll get it. But ADOS? Nah, no way he'll be able to finish that.
@Krystof S. Maybe Elio and Linda will finish it for him. They wrote a good bit of TWOIAF.
You're not crazy. You're just being realistic.
Yea there’s a better chance of aliens visiting us then grrm releasing dream of spring or more dunk and egg.
If Bloodraven was impersonating Maynard Plumm, maybe Shiera Seastar also disguising as Bloodraven and ruling in his stead? They were the power couple of Westeros back then.
I love the armor designs in this comic.
Edit:Also Blood Raven’s birth mark looks more like a raccoon than a raven.
Really love these in depth Dunk and Egg explanation vids. Thanks Alt Shift X!!
Thanks for watching!
These videos are gonna blow up once the show gets into production, well done Shift.
The Japanese philosopher bit had me rolling.
Also Glyndyn, Fireballs "son" was a real MVP in this story, holy shit.
Sometimes I pick up a new series and think “huh, this is pretty good. Maybe comparable in quality to ASOIAF” then I come back to the series and realize just nothing compares to the depth of ASOIAF, truly a modern classic
Since I read ASOIAF a couple of years ago, I stopped reading books. I compare every new book to The Song and they're never even close in quality. So, basically, ASOIAF ruined books for me.
The sheer depth of this world still amazes me after all these years, such a brilliant writer
If Martin decided to release the 4th book of Dunk and Eggs: it needs to be adapted into a graphic novel
Oh what a dream that would be but we are forever waiting for winter.
@A Yourmum there is still an ongoing adaptation of a clash of kings, the second book of the series
@Brandon Mayhew ? I do not get 🥴
@A Yourmum there is a graphic novel based on the second book of asoiaf series
@Brandon Mayhew oh wow didn’t even know about that. I knew there were graphic novels for dunk and egg just not for asoiaf. Would you recommend it? I’ve already read the books 🤷♂️
"Dunk is oblivious to the flirting."
lmao He's actually pretty adorable.
Thank you for helping condense the book's material. I always find I can enjoy the details when they are laid out in formats like yours.
The original turbovirgin
I did not catch it the first time myself. I thought he was fascinated by Dunk because of him dreaming of him on the Kingsguard, not unlike Daeron's fear of him the first time they meet.
Having Bloodraven besides any king is a double-edged sword. One, he's so loyal to his family that he's willing to go through any lengths to protect it. He has spies and men ready to do his bidding, and more importantly, you can blame him for all of the crimes and misfortune on the land.
The downsides of having Bloodraven around; your subjects wouldn't like you and rumors of his magic and skills would be used as a stepping stone to rebellions. He's also dangerous and would ruin the image of the Targaryens. Not to mention many would likely want to kill him and probably you as well.
.
Weigh your choices carefully.
Daeron II was dawn lucky that BloodRaven didn't supported the Blackfyres!
I love how BloodRaven, of all people, tested the honor of Dunk with the suggestion of just running away instead of giving up his armor..
"Gorghan of Old Ghis once wrote that a prophecy is like a treacherous woman. She takes your member in her mouth, and you moan with the pleasure of it and think, how sweet, how fine, how good this is... and then her teeth snap shut and your moans turn to screams. That is the nature of prophecy, said Gorghan. Prophecy will bite your prick off every time."
- Marwyn the Mage
probably what happened to Rhaegar, honestly lmao
And then Marwyn travelled straight to Daenerys, a prophetic character, and crossed the sea, who are invested with ironborn who follow some lovecratian maniac that wants to end the world. Marwyn really is a „do as I say, not as I do“ kinda guy lol.
@Green, 2nd Strongest Warrior Marwyn is protected by his hat made of Valyrian steel foil.
"The Sellsword" will probably be when Dunc and Egg travels to Essos because GRRM did also mention that they would make a stop there. They might even encounter the Golden Company and Bittersteel which would be pretty cool considering Bittersteel might not even realized he had a Targaryen under his nose the whole time.
They will probably see Haegon Blackfyre being crowned and him and the Golden Company preparing themselves for the 3rd Blackfyre Rebellion!
@Pedro Lucas That would be really awesome to see but wasn't Aegon already a knight himself when he fought in the 3rd war?
@Daemon I Blackfyre Aegon might go with Dunk to Essos for BloodRaven's orders!
@Daemon I Blackfyre Or there could be POVs of Dunk disguised inside the GC and Egg preparing the Targaryen armies with Maekar, BloodRaven and Aerion Brightflame on Westeros!
Dunk repeatedly threatens to give Egg a "clout on the ear" and Brienne bites off Vargo Hoat's ear. Coincidence??
I THINK NOT!
(good catch btw, even if a bit absurd 😂)
Yes.
This was fantastic. You have such a soothing voice, and the editing was amazing. Thank you for this!
I really do hope we can see the rest of these story’s. I haven’t finished reading the main series but the idea of these really does excite me
I never knew just how much parallel there is between Dunk and Brienne's stories. The offspring of characters echoing their ancestors actions is quite poetic
These videos are priceless. You explain the stories far better than anyone.
Also, the use of the graphics from the comics helps tremendously
I just spent two hours watching these Dunken and Egg prequel videos. I have no regrets.
of all the characters in this series I would kill to have GRRM to flesh out and write a lot about Bloodraven. What an interesting character to be left on the pages without his own in depth story line.
Call me crazy, I like the Tales of Dunk and Egg more than the main novels.
You're crazy. You're also right.
I prefer them, too. For me, it's just a matter of taste. The main series is so massive with an incredible amount of moving parts. That isn't a criticism. I can acknowledge the objective quality and brilliance of ASOIAF. I simply enjoy reading "smaller" stories with a more focused cast more.
probably because each of them is a finished story.
I agree, however I couldn’t like Dunk and Egg as much if it wasn’t for the main series. It’s everything that’s great about ASoIaF in a nice concise package. However, it’s how it connects to and expands on the main series that elevates it above, in my opinion.
I would want more of these easy to keep track of books too. I think a lot of ppl would agree, if they know about these novels..
Your the only one of the channels I subed for their GoT content years ago I still watch 2 years after the season we do not speak of. Keep up your good work mate :)
so glad you gave us the third book too! I have loved these videos about dunk and egg to death. So well done!! Your hard work in these works shows. cheers
The series was good overall, great some times, but the books are always better. In the books there's always some of those layers that we put in ourselves as readers, there's imagination and our own twisted logics to all of it. That's the magic of it. There's lore galore to be interpreted and explained, as we all have seen for the past years discussing how the series was lettings us down and leaving out major plotlines. We've been taking about it for years now and amazing channels like this one give me life and hope that somewhere, somehow there'll be writers for next shows that care and will give us something to look forward to 🙌🏻
So first off I wanted to say I adore your videos. Your voice is so soothing, yet powerful enough to grasp my attention. Your videos are also edited wonderfully. Nothing overly showy, but not utterly simple in the slightest. Top notch. I was wondering if you're ever planning on delving in the the cosmere at all? The books seem mostly up your alley, and I'd love to hear your opinions and predictions about hidden meanings and upcoming events in the books.
Slam Dunk video dude, Eggcellent stuff as always
🥚🥚🥚
@Alt Shift X thats a bit eggy
@Random People what a BALL of an episode.
@Alt Shift X just DUNKing our faces in content are ya.
I have no idea where my "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" book is gone so thank you for this video that let me relive these incredible stories
I was hoping you mentioned the inn by the God's Eye shore. Where all of the wedding's attendees crossed the lake to reach Butterwell's castle.
I have a theory, that it is the same inn found by Arya and Yoren's group of recruits, before they are attacked by Ser Amory Lorch, in the book "A Clash of Kings".
I hope George fills out some of the history of Shiera Seastar in a Dunk & Egg book.
The scene between Bloodraven and Dunk at the end always kind of reminded of those bits at the end of Terry Pratchett's watch novels in the Discworld series where the Patrician talks to Vimes about everything that happened and what the consequences of it all will be. Bloodraven may as well have said "Do not let me detain you" when he dismissed the two.
Dunk and egg are just so interesting, I can't wait for more of their stories.
Love the dunk and egg books a bunch and really can't wait to see more after whenever George finishes winds of winter I'm guessing
As much as I want more Dunk and Egg tales, I just wish George would finish the main series first. That's a priority because none of the other works hold much weight if the main series is left unfinished.
I appreciate that you're adding more comedic bits to these videos. Good mix of entertaining and informative.
when you revealed that maynard is quite literally bloodraven, I never caught that when finishing the book lmao and now I seem to like bloodraven even more. what an interesting guy, thx for the explanation!
Makes the final couple of seasons of GoT even sadder, with all the subtle interconnectivity, prophecies, deeper meanings, being simply forgotten.
Most of the time I feel like I'm Dunk the lunk, as thick as a castle wall too while reading the novellas because I don't get the simple things that Dunk misses too. Like I had no idea that the Fiddler was a Blackfyre... I knew he was a Targareon Prince but- It's just that these videos really help me out in understanding these books so thanks for making them.
Welp, looks like I'm rereading Dunk and Egg for the upeenth time
chance seeing you here! my 2 favorite channels in one place!
I would recommend "The First Law" series if looking for a new story in a similar type fantasy world.
The comic adaptions for them are amazingly good. I could imagine panels of the comic used in a slide show as the audio book played to be the peek experience.
It must be done
Eyyy cool to see you here
Love your videos and really enjoyed the comics adaptación!
My wife and I received the first 2volumes of the graphic novels version as a wedding gift. I really dug them as we were both big fans of game of thrones show and he knew that. My wife has still to read but when I buy the 3rd I will add the first two in the series to her her 2021 reading stack.
Glendon Ball is one of my all time favourite characters in the song of ice and fire.
His sheer tenacity makes me love him as a character even more.
You know what....I have little faith for them to produce the Prequel Series without books behind them when they clearly failed at that in the main series.
I stick with these stories.
As long as D&D aren't on the job, and they find people passionate about their work for more than 5 years, then I think we'll be in a good spot. That, or end it around 4 seasons. That seems to be a good number for many great shows.
To be fair, the failure of the main series wasn't really HBO's fault. They were willing to give D&D more time and money to make more seasons but D&D refused, wanting to finish the project quickly
But I've seen the casting for House of the Dragon and it's pretty questionable, so I don't expect it to succeed
welp 1 year later and im curious to hear yalls opinions on HOTD so far
@BaccaIsMemebob I will now watch Episode 2. Episode 1 was a good start.
Always wondered, knowing George's penchant for naming characters after real world influences, if Uthor "the Snail" with his unique sigil was named in honour of the Silver Snail - a legendary comic book shop in Toronto.
Stunning video! I miss your GRRM breakdowns as much as GOT. Thank you so much, youre bloody brilliant!
I just finished reading the Mystery Knight, and am kicking myself for not recognizing Maynard Plumm. I knew there was something suspicious when Dunk mentioned his odd features, but didn't put it together. Thanks Alt!
Oh god, George is really gonna be the next Tolkien isn't he. Having the scraps he left turned into books to be published for years after his death. I just hope he's got a good successor cause with all the stuff this guy's got planned he's gonna need another 50 years to finish it all.
Dunk & Egg is the only prequel I’m interested in. I think they should do each story as a short series in the vein of British series.
Alt+Shift+X -- you make the best videos and breakdowns of books and shows I've ever seen. The amount of research and details you put into your videos really shows; with every video you put out. I'm so happy that I found your channel long ago, and hope you keep going for many more years!
This has to be the best Targaryen period because its time where there were lots of kings coming and going, a lot of political tensions, the Blackfyres are a serious threat and Dunk and Egg are very good protagonists that lead very interesting lives, even their death was mysterious and special.
I dunno why, but the Mystery Knight is my favourite Dunk and Egg story so far, maybe because it had more Bloodraven in it which is awesome, or maybe its just Alt Shift X's way of presenting the story to me, even though Ive read the book before. Anyway, Ill NEVER stop rewatching this video. Thanks Alt Shift X
I never made a connection between Bloodraven and Odin but it works so well! Amazing!
You all will see that if we finally finish reading the last tale of Dunk&Egg, we'll find out that Colhands is actually Dunk back to life thanks to the Ghost of Heart Hill & Bloodraven after his own death, when he sacrificed himself saving Rhaegar from Summerhall's fire.
Holy shit, this theory makes absolute sense!
Of the comparisons between Dunc and Brienne: brienne is also seen at renlys tournament using a shield that has the same symbol as Dunc, a tree with a star
The Others take you. I've been reading the Dunk and Egg stories and I watch your video after reading each one... and I end up rereading them to catch everything you point out that I blindly miss. I tried to watch this video in tandem to avoid another reread... alas, I've still managed to miss so much. I will be immediately journeying back to Whitewalls to pay closer attention to one Ser Maynard Plumm in particular...
Great video as always. The bit about dreams got brought up an idea. Prophecies being prophecies, it's also possible that the young queen that replaces Cersei and the valonqar that strangles her are Princess Arianne and King (f)Aegon. If you consider AFfC and ADwD as one long book, we're introduced to the prophecy and the two new characters around the same time which is a great way to mess with the reader's expectations. Also, while S8 was horrendous, it did show that the Golden Company guarded King's Landing which in the books would only happen if (f)Aegon was the one on the throne.
I think the Younger, More Beautiful Queen will be either Arianne or Daenerys (weird to think Cersei being around once Aegon takes King's Landing), OR the YMBQ doesn't refer to just one individual, but several including those two plus Margaery.
Brynden just wanted to have fun, do a little trolling, but life demanded otherwise. Many such cases!
I love so much that you gave a shoutout to Radio Westeros! They're among the most informative ASoIaF podcasts I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
I agree
Elric was the antithesis to the muscle bound sword swinger. He was an emaciated albino, whose vampire sword forces him to kill, so the sword can feed.
Wow. I didn't get a lot when reading the book. Thanks for your videos! It's realy interesting to discover missed bits of story.
I really love your content, mate! Keep up the amazing work!
Also, when Jon first takes Longclaw in his hands, his first thoughts are about stealing his own brother's birthright, and taking his father's sword
Just like Daemon Blackfyre, and the irony is that one of the reasons why Catelyn treated Jon the way she did was because she feared he would become Daemon Blackfyre 2.0!
I'm surprised nobody found it strange that Maynard Plumm and I were never in the same place at the same time.
But he is a well travelled hedge knight. He could be anywhere. I'm sure if I 'plied myself I could find him. I do have a Thousand Eyes and One.
The storys of Dunk and Brienne have many parralels?
So that means that Pod is a secret Targaryen xD
No, but we might see something great sprout up from twelve year old pod once he grows.
nah that can't be right, cause we know Jon Snow's a Targaryen, and Thormund was very clear about observing Jon having a small pecker lol
@Kevin W bro 🤣🤣🤣
Would be great for Podrick's actor to play Egg in the series if they age him up
Everyone is a secret Targaryen
You did an amazing job covering these. Kudos.
the japanese philisopher bit was pure comedic genius, but also insightful and necessary
great work as always
Have had a hard time finding this graphic novel. Have other 2. I know these stories sre are "simpler", but I did a ton of research and studying to learn all about the Targaryens. It was fun. I am looking forward to a show
While I do want to see a conclusion to the main series, future dink and egg stories excite me quite a lot
Bloodraven is definitely the most loyal and competent hand there has been
Awesome! We need more content like this so we can forget Season 8.
I’d love to hear you talk about Gormenghast trilogy. I like the reference to books in this story by George!
Bloodraven is my absolute most favorite character in the whole Ice & Fire universe. What a fascinating character
I love how each novella gives Dunk a love interest, and after the lovely ladies Tanselle and Rohanne this story slaps Dunk with Daemon. the Diddler.
