- I received a message that a disabled Veteran was about to get his lawn abated by the city. There was no way I was going to let that happen. So I left work early the next day to check it out. Sadly when I arrived this veteran had clearly been taken advantage of. He had paid someone to mow his lawn and you can see in the video they didn't do much. I was honored to assist this gentleman who shared lots of stories about himself and his family members who served our Country including the Army, Navy and Air Force. During conversation he mentioned that he used to fish a lot and loved to eat bluegill. I just happen to be going fishing the weekend. May have to make a trip back to this yard for part 2. A storm set in and I was not able to get the back as clean as I would have liked, but that gives me a good reason to enjoy some more stories and drop off some fish! You would think the neighbors would’ve been honored to come and help, seeing this old veteran struggling to cut his grass in his yard and offered to do it for him, smh🤦🏽♀️! Come on people we have to do better with our seniors and veterans in need in our neighborhoods and communities. It’s disgusting that we can look out our windows and watch them struggle to do every day tasks and not lift a finger to help, not in my neighborhood we help each other. I’m an elderly woman now and my neighbor doesn’t skip a beat to cut my grass when he does his every week and it shouldn’t be about race or religion because I am black and he is white. They look out for me and I look out for them, the way the world should be.

Outstanding job Mark. The yard looks so much better now. The fella should report the company that charged him to do the yard work,then didn't do a very good job. I cut my lawn with a weed eater a few times when my lawnmower broke down. I hope you have a great day my friend ❤️🙂⚘️🚜.

It’s awful the way some lawn companies take advantage of seniors when they can’t do there yards themselves now and worked hard all there lives and have more knowledge of hard work than many. Thankyou for helping him and doing such a good job!

The USA needs to have a program like we have in Ontario, Canada. The community care program has people that go to seniors, and veterans who need lawn maintenance, or snow shoveling during the winter. I hope you have a great day Andrew 🙂⚘️.

It looks great now, but there is a bit more you, or someone else, could do to make it easier to keep up in the future. Those rocks once bordered flower beds, but now they are just in the way. If he is like me, he LOVES his rocks and doesn't want them gone. But they could be reused to surround the shrubs, with mulch inside them to keep the weeds/ grass down, and then the lawn would be more easily mowed. Any extras could be put in groups of 3 or 5 in between perennials in the one back existing bed. I am having a harder and harder time keeping up, so I think about things like this. I even bought a book on how to garden as you age, and a lot of it was redesigning so there were more tasks you could hire out, like lawn mowing.
We the people have forgotten the golden rule, love thy neighbor, especially the government.

You definitely know how to maneuver that lawn mower around the yard and around that parked car. You have exceeded the largest riding lawn mower on record that I have watched here so far. I hope you did not tow that lawn mower to get that there.

They were all flowering and he loves his flowers. Probably this fall will go back an clean again for him.
One thing I always wonder about is why people put stones in their yard, especially when it makes it more difficult to mow. Many times it is someone who has trouble keeping up with the lawn, and this just adds to the problem. I guess when they were able to keep up, they loved stones.
apparently those used to border flower beds that are now gone.
The veteran mentioned the battle of Corregidor (5-6 May 1942) or possibly the recapture in February 1945.
