Making a cookie style Bobbin Lace pillow

- Follow along as I make a cookie style Bobbin Lace pillow. Historically, these pillows were stuffed with straw, sawdust, or wool. I am using cork sheeting to fill this one.

I found a "cookie/bolster" combo in an antique store, with all the bobbins and patterns and book and everything -- for $35!!! I've had it 20 years, and it was old then. It's pretty cool.

It's beautiful, I liked it. I made one, it's Round shape. I used store bough foam, wood and the cover is removable with elastic and washable, I have it for about 21/22 years already. it's in great shape and condition. If the elastic stretches, I can change it. And/or fabric cover too. Done some projects. And have washed the fabric cover.

This is a great video! I have a cookie pillow that is just a foam disc and I know it's not going to last long and I'm going to need to make a new one.
When I taught myself Torchon a couple years ago there was hardly any good bobbin lace videos on youtube. It's great to see a new channel. I hope you keep making videos.

Wonderful tutorial! I am taking a two-part Bobbin Lace course, and showed up to the first class with a "normal" pillow -- needless to say, it did not work (sad face). After lots of research, it seems that no one can send me a pillow in time for the second course meeting -- but your instructions have saved me! And now I'll have my own pillow -- made by me. Question, how are you able to make sure kids don’t hurt themselves on pins, sewing and other dangerous to kids tools? I still avoid much of my sewing as my 6 (almost 7) year old tends to run and jump on me at the worst of times (with a needle in my hand or a million pinned object on my lap!?!
Evelyn Rojas Hmmm, good question. And not easily answered. I take lots of precautions for unsupervised and unintended access. So, everything is in closed boxes and/or high up on shelves. I have a sewing table, but it is workbench height, so they can’t readily see what’s going on unless invited up. That being said, as long as they are calm, I do allow them to “play” with my pincushion, sew with needle and thread, or be involved when I’m using one of the sewing machines. I do want them to know that pins are sharp and that they can have fun with them but they have to be careful not to get hurt. But the key word is “calm.” If the collective kid energy is too high, and there isn’t going to be any focus, then I stand at the counter and keep things generally out of reach, or just do something else. Nap times are a blessing. 😊 Mom theory is so hard, because each kid is so different (I have 3, all under 6 years old) and they are all changing constantly. What might work great one day, totally fails a month later. I try to keep flexible.
I’m a professional custom interiors fabricator, plus multi crafter . I continued to sew, and craft, after the births of my 2 kids, as I was self employed at the time. I made accommodations to my workspace, like putting boards around the base of my industrial sewing machines, working during naps, or when dad was home, plus teaching them from a young age not to play with my tools. Then, as age appropriate, I taught them how to use my tools and machines.
Egghead worst that happens was a self hair cut, and the careful cutting of holes in a slipcover. My kids never hurt themselves
They are adults now, and do not Really sew, but they learned some basics and continue to use those simple skills.

Yes, I should probably do one. They’re more complicated, and there are lots of different styles of roller pillows. But, yes, I need to add it to my list. 😊
