- Edward Watson, Marianela Nuñez and Federico Bonelli rehearse Frederick Ashton's Monotones II with Anthony Dowell and Lyn Wallis. Find out more at www.roh.org.uk/...
Monotones II will be screened in cinemas this Summer. During these screenings, Nehemiah Kish will replace Federico Bonelli.
Frederick Ashton distilled the exquisite tranquility of Erik Satie's pieces in Monotones I and II, which display some of his most modernist choreography. Monotones II was created first and given its premiere at the Royal Opera House in 1965, accompanied by Satie's Trois Gymnopédies. Ashton created a second piece to Satie's Trois Gnossiennes (Monotones I), and the two were presented together the following year. Satie's Préludes d'Eginhard was played as an overture.
Monotones I opens with a slow, serene pas de trois in a wonderful example of adagio classicism. The dancers remain on stage throughout the entire work, with their smooth lines of movement unbroken. Monotones II features another pas de trois that mirrors the controlled movements of the first. Satie's delicate music, coupled with Ashton's beautiful choreography, is wonderfully haunting.

Having played this piano piece before makes you realize what genius the choreography is....There are three distinct parts happening in the keyboard and it has been portrayed beautifully....I just wish they would have done some breaking into the 3 separate part as they do work in correlation but separately.
I LOVE Marianela!! She's so beautiful and happy! What an artist.
Nobody does it better.
So pleased to see this on YT. I danced both sections of this ballet in my day and have many fond memories of it. Thank you for sharing!
2:30 Jump and land on POINT... killer choreography.
I like this, I wish I could see it in person.
Stunning. Love all of them.
Can it just be my job to watch Marianela?
so nice to see the rehearsal.
Pa de ... Trois? They're beautiful ...And landing on pointe? RESPECT
I like how Marianela took instructions when the teacher said "reach out on it". That made the dance beautiful. I feel like it's because Frederick Ashton's choreography was precise and it made dancers feel good, yet challenged and perserverant. I would like to sing opera there one day. I would like too. I want to see it.
i love this ballet. to see edawrd and marienela in it is like wow.
Stunning, I also love Nunezs shape! She is not these stick ballerinas you see, she has muscle and looks like a woman
absolutamente lindo ! emoções a flor da pele ...
Edward Watson likes his grey tights and why not he looks beautiful in them.
such a lovely piece. All three are beautiful.. thanks for uploading.
Bonelli is so beautiful.
This choreography is stunning. Love it!
I read somewhere that whn Ashton created this he was thinking about men on the moon. People in space. Is that true? If so it really conveys that effect when you see it on stage.
I meant NUÑEZ
Sooo beautiful I wish could see it ...
god they are all beautiful
omg, it's gonna be AMAZING!!! -as always
Federico is such a beautiful man
woow, I don't know this choregrapher but I love his mouv from this video

beautiful!
I LOVE MARIANELLA NÛNEZ!!!
delightful!
Marianela
NELAAAAAA!!!
So pure, but I feel hurt when she jumps on her tiptoes... Why are point shoes soooooo painful and so pretty at the same time ?
Wait, when I think about it, all girls shoes hurt...
I love this choreography especially from 2:30-3:09...who choreographed this piece
Frederic Ashton
Overall yes, but Maya Plisetskaya was still dancing at the age of 60, and was just as beautiful :)
price we pay for the sexy pointe shoes?
名师出高徒 一点没错!!!
but who needs fame when you're getting paid to do what you love every day!
male dancers have such a longer career than girls it seems :( so unfair
male dancers also have to put up with being made fun of for dancing in their early years, especially in high school. they deserve it.
Edward is beautiful but dang does he sweat?
He's a ginger. We don't sweat.
osteophorosis is because they got pregnant. pregnancy is a huge risk factor.
That's probably because women have softer bones than men, and are more prone to osteoporosis and bone mass loss as they get older.
will someone buy that dancer in the grey tights some new ones... or does he like to exhibit every nuke and cranny?
most male dancers dont get much fame as girls do, (there r always exceptions)
