Best tip for any parent transitioning a child to a bed. Pool noodles. Cut it in half, and place it round side up along any edge of a bed that does not have a wall against it. It won't prevent the child from climbing out, but it will prevent them from rolling out in their sleep.
It is the opposite for me. My 19mth old sleeps in her bed at night time after a power struggle...but nap times she sleeps in her crib. If we did the power struggle at naptime it would get pushed to be too late.

Why must one use a crib other than the fact that everyone else seems to be doing it??

I was in crib for about 8 months and figured out how to climb before walk I dive bombed out of crib and dad's sultion till he fet I was big enough for bunk they already bought for me to sleep on bottom bunk was in my room crib matress on the floor the reason infants shouldn't be in toddler bed is they roll a lot. But you could do a matress on the floor for an infant. I was still an infant when I dive bombed out of crib.obviosuly I had to get up to dive bomb.
I think putting a baby into a normal bed has a higher risk of SIDS because even if you use rails, there are still gaps and wedges your baby's face or head can get stuck in. With cots there is practically no space between the mattress and the rail, making it safer for babies who can't move out of a corner if they get stuck.
Also bed rails are pretty short, so a baby will be falling out of them by accident because they're too young to understand gravity lol. I think that's why you're told to stop using bassinets once the baby can sit up, because the sides are too short.

I got the 0-5 used a bebe mattress when he was 6 months & under as he can’t roll over in it but brilliant

Melody Jays these days U can get bed rails that can go all around the bed
