📱 What screen recorder am I using?
I use Camtasia to make all my videos. From my experience it's the best screen recorder available, and I like the built in video editor and cursor effects. Check it out here: techsmith.z6rjha.net/ba9x0M

Fantastic Rick, appreciate you answering my query with this great video :) Funny story, you did the video with one arm and said it is so simple you only need one hand. You must be psychic, as I am actually recovering from shoulder surgery and only have one arm available, so is good to know I can do this even in my current state ;)
Thanks so much for the great suggestion!! And, that’s funny - not funny about shoulder surgery - but funny coincidence. Here’s to a speedy recovery!
Most underrated Inkscape teacher out here in CZcams-land, because Rick is simply one of the best.
Thank you, thank you! I’m still learning, but I learned from the best.
I've never seen a program do what it does before, and never anyone that shows all these secrets. Thank you thank you. As Tina Turner sang to Ayrton Senna: you are simply the best.
Haha, thank you! Love Tina Turner.
the paths of simplicity are the fruit of a mature logic. So building a palette of colors according to this method is emblematic: well done Rick. Greetings from Italy
Thank you so much. Grazie!
This is brilliant. Take one pallette you like. Trace a pic you like and just match the darks to darks. Lights to lights wow totally change the feel. Let's get creating people. Wheeeyyyy.
Thanks! Great thinking!
Thanks again, Rick. What a time saver compared to what I would have done. Excellent work. No sweat involved.
Haha! Thank you! I like what you did there- no sweat involved. Perfect!
I appreciate you and you efforts to create these neat videos for us. I learn something great every time!
Thank you so much! I really enjoy making these, and I’ll keep going.
Show-off!
Haha one-handed content creation on a Friday! 😂
Hahaha! I was too sweaty! Haha
Really useful tip, thank you so much, as always 💯
I really appreciate it! Thank you!!
Round of Applause for this one !
Awesome
Thank you!!
Omg!!! Thank you!
Thanks!!
Thanks a lot Rick. These are the best videos on CZcams for free too. Ever considered creating a course yet? Regards the palette image extension, jpg or svg or png? Great videos keep them coming.
Man, I love your videos. It's really funny and well explained. Thank you for this awesome work.
Thanks so much! I think I was winded from basketball on this one. Haha.
Thanks Rick. I love this! Knew about the clones but didn’t know the underlined colour shortcut!
Thanks! It's a fun trick.
Wow! How simple!
Once I practice.
Love that I can keep control of my own images. You never know what those palette makers websites do with your images.
Thank you for this tutorial and for telling us where to find those tools.
😊😊😊
Thanks so much! And you’re right- I never thought about what those apps might do with the uploaded images.
Once again I learn a new Inkscaoe feature. Thanks! I guess as an alternative, users could just duplicate and move several squares then use the eye dropper tool to target desired colours.
Wow! That's awesome! Thank you
Thanks!! I love this quick trick.
This is nuts! I've been digging into Inkscape because I just got an Orturr LM2 10a, so I guess I need to become a bit of a graphic designer now🤣 And your channel is a GEM! Your videos on the layered vector tracing stuff is what started me off, but now I'm getting into things that I probably don't even need for my laser!🤣 Hats off, man👌 Fantastic content, good pacing and demonstration. Really great work. Thank you for what you do🙏 You got my sub for sure. Have a great one, and stay safe out there!
That's amazing!! Thank you so much, this changes EVERYTHING. I've been doing this manually and it was exhausting.
Thanks! Manually is good too, but this is fast. Pretty fun too.
Very useful. Thanks for explaining this method/function!
Thanks! It's a simple one. Hidden but simple.
Thanks Rick, another great tip I'll be using in the future 👍
Nice! It comes in handy. Thanks!
Thanks so much for instructions for InkScape so much appreciated. Two questions:
1. How do I preorder your book that is coming out in December?
2. How to change color in a png file. example if its green how I make the green in that image gold in inkscape?
Thanks so much! Working hard to finish the book so it's release on time! Once I know more about possible pre-orders I'll get the word out. For the question about PNG color changing... there is an HSL adjusting tool under Extensions>Color>HSL Adjust but it is made for vector objects. If the PNG is something simple, you could do multi-color Trace Bitmap and then select the green to switch manually to gold. Otherwise raster software like Photoshop or Affinity or Gimp would do it easily with their selection tools. Hope this helps!!
Hi Rick! Great content as always! I wanted to ask u if u could make a tutorial on bullet holes and laser/blaster burns effect on signs. Thanks for ur amazing work!
Thanks so much! I’ll play around with some ideas and see if I can figure it out. Thanks!
I would've named the last example wet dream.
As I learn Inkscape I am finding your channel one of my go to sources. I came across this one as I am in the process of designing a t-shirt with a star field. The design will be printed on a black shirt and I want to get rid of the black behind the stars so that when the shirt is printed I don't end up with a big glossy swatch of black ink on the shirt. Is there a good way to remove the black but leave the stars? Thanks
Great tutorial! I just wonder what he HAD to listen to while doing it lol
Awesome video, thank you. What if we have an image with example of an effect we're trying to achieve but need some clues? Where can we upload this if we want to show you?
Thanks! I’m on Twitter or X whatever it’s called now. @rickjohanson. Or, my email is johanson.rick @ gmail The comments won’t let me put the email address in its complete form. Happy to take a look.
I am struggling with preferences. Everything I open inkscape I have to set me desk color, remove checkerboard and other settings. How do I make it stay the same everything. Inkscape version 1.3. Thanks for addressing the color palate.
Hello. And if you take the last picture (3:14) and draw a red circle in advance at the bottom, then the red color will be added or added only the colors under the clones? Due to the old video card (problems with the drivers), on version 1.3, this function does not work normally. But on 1.1.1 versions, for some reason, the yellow color in the image is ignored, although it is a lot in the image ... and for it to appear, I have to create clones with dimensions of 20 by 20.
Cool tip. But how do I get a repeated rectangle around another shape's path i.e. simple square?
Thanks! You could try the Pattern Along Path tool. It’s found under Path Effects and you can repeat objects around any path you determine. Pretty useful.
@@IronEchoDesign I did, but its still not working for me
Check the settings in Pattern Along Path. You should see an option to change the linked object to Repeated, Stretched, etc. Have you adjusted the that setting?
Great but how do I pick a palette from a portrait photo and show it alongside the photo rather than on top of the photo which hides the photo?
The palette you create is easy to select and move to the side.
Wall hax lol
