It slightly blew my mind that the TARDIS Remembered was created for this episode, then repurposed for the Tales of the Tardis when RTD wanted to create more content for the 60th celebration, so we've seen it in the wrong order. Timey Wimey!

It bothers some, but I love that the power-of-stories / the power-of-beliefs is the thing that created the actual power and mystery around Ruby and her mom. It is the whole point of the arc of the season ... from believing the thing about salt onward 😊

I don't like it but it does fit into other RTD stories--using The Doctor's name and phone number as a kind of collective mantra, etc.

Excellent dissection, your views are always well informed. I will look forwards to the full video.

I agree with what you said about the stakes - they tend to get so high that you know it will be undone, and it just removes all the tension. And then he reverses it with some hand-wavey spectacle that doesn’t make much sense if you think about it. And then you watch the cafe scene and all is forgiven.
Still not keen on the fourth wall breaking.

What happens to that mysterious traveler in time and space known as the Doctor? I'm sorry to say his story ends in absolute terror. Night-night!

    THANKS for this!!!!
I loved this episode despite myself.
I'm *shocked* that you liked the episode as much as you did, especially the "everyday person" thing.
I liked your points about the stakes. "Yes, everybody lives!"
I didn't hear his pregnant pronunciation of 2005 because I was so happy he mentioned 1999 (the FOX-TV, gets-a-bad-rap American movie!!! WOO-WOO!)!!!
Again, what you say about Fifteen I said about Five 40 years ago. And of course "South Park" did a great job at poking at representation.
If you mean Cushing, I think you meant to say the 196*5* or 196*6* Dalek movie.
The "cultural appropriation" remark had the socio-political meaning you think (and, as a person of African descent, I was glad to see that) but perhaps it had multiple meanings. "Somewhat" dated? LOL!!! But I believe you are right that modern storytelling is more difficult.
You weren't the only Whovian who was surprised to see the Memory TARDIS. I learned today that very few of my fellow Americans watched CZcams for the few days it was on, apparently!
Yeah, I also have a problem with the baddie holding onto the TARDIS for decades. My problem with this story is that not everything is answered and what is answered is not answered well. Ex: If I have to figure out that Ruby's mother was pointing *for* the CCTV cameras, it shows how loose this script is in this RTD 2.0 era.
See you for the Christmas Special and then Season 42/15/2!!!!

I think near the end you might've missed the point, it wasn't much a monologue but a projection of his worth, it's almost as if the Doctor has to constantly remind himself that he's more than that. Not to mention the remotely catastrophic reign of terror, the Doctor will always blame himself for anything beyond his control, especially having an angered God cling onto to the closest being to his two hearts, The TARDIS. They could've taken their time to emphasize his retreat, but the Doctor is doing his best to be what his previous carnations couldn't even in the hardest of times.
    But great reaction❤

Overall I’ve enjoyed this season but yeah a lot of small choices were made that just add up to an off feeling

I agree with everything you brought to discussion, seems like the characters are more superficial.
However I saw the "cultural appropriation" line differently. To me it was like "if Marcus didn't raid the egypt back then we wouldn't have this problem now", and not about the show itself. But I see how it can be understood like that (hence moffat's first doctor, worst writing ever)

I agree well said. I don't agree with Russell at all for what he's doing to the show Dr. Who use to be about escapism and to get away from the real world not to be reminded of it we get the world is not in a good place at the moment but we could had done without being reminded of it for 54 minutes.
This is no fault to Ncuti Gatwa he's a great actor and i like him but they are writing his Doctor all wrong i do not like the humanisation of the Doctor i prefer it when he's an alien the emotions and the crying is getting too overboard.
I think RTD is forgetting he's writing for science fiction not a soap opera i did not like that ending at all it was a cop-out and it was very lazy.
The cultural appropriation bit yeah that was a total unnecessary line.

hey we love nctuti is it because black and gay we brothers and sisters say can direct a good episode so stop picking on him are against black and gay people

    • @joshuajoshua2732
      @joshuajoshua2732 Před 2 měsíci +1

It's got nothing to do with Ncuti being black or gay it's the way his Doctor and his stories are written which should be the important focus.
