Rory McIlroy is one of golf's most athletic players... so I followed his gym routine and diet to see if it would make a difference to my game. I tracked my progress using WHOOP (who are partners of the channel and helped make this video happen) and then to test it out, I entered myself in two pro tournaments. Here's how I got on...

The Rory workouts I followed are in the description đ
Thank you for doing this video! I am in the midst of losing weight and this video is the boost I need to push even harder to get fit!
@@williamhester5973 Cheers lad, you got this đȘ
You will continue to improve if you keep up with the training. Your Quest to the open could happen.
This is your year Pete ! Go Get IT !
Hi Pete, would love to see you carry through training and take a look at how it changes your game/recovery time. I have always wondered, if you dropped weight if you would lose power?
This is excellent content! I throughly enjoyed this from start to finish and is a great insight into your experiences. Please do more like these.
Cheers Rob
A fine real-world video, showing that golf is not all glamour and cheering crowds. It takes hard work (and hard workouts) to become a top-level player, and that effort all happens behind the scenes in the gym and on the range. Good Luck this year and hit 'em long.
Your content is getting better and better Pete. Keep up the great work and I hope the hard work pays off this season.
Peter I must say a real pleasure to watch, a different state of mind and understanding to what it really takes to be at the highest level, excellent content, keep it coming as a big fan here like many others đ
Love to see a pro showing how much work it is to be physicaly optimal and what it takes to be performingđ also love your Seattle Kraken t-shirt đ
Great video, love to see the behind the scenes grind of preparation for big events beyond just the actual golf work. The workouts, diet, recovery aspect doesn't get talked about nearly as much so it was cool to see you cover all of that.
Peter, I say keep strong! You can do this! I am anxious to see your improvement. And, I really enjoy your videos! Can't wait for the next one
Love this type of content around comps and prep, your game is in really good shape.
videos like this just shine a light on how innovative you are and can be with your channel. amazing video, proud of that -2 round, keep it up Texas Pete! rooting for you all the way from Houston. âcheersâ
Cool concept & definitely confirms what we knowâŠthe game is there to compete & to win! Good luck with training mate - if it becomes that way of life, thatâs when youâre winning. Brilliant video as usual x
Seriously, these. Ideos are getting better and better from a production standpoint. It seems like youâve found a groove in the editing and are plying with structure in a great way. Really impressive stuff! Nice work!
I have been watching your videos/content for years now. Iâm truly a huge fan and I love your golf swing and your style of play. I have to tell you Pete, your gains in the weight room have been extremely impressive! Keep up the work!
Keep it going Pete! We're rooting for you.
Great video, really interesting seeing what you are going through with all of that. Looks like your competitive season is off to a good start!
Yeah, I'd love to see the longer edit!! You look great, Mate!
I love the way your channel is going! So unique and insightful and very very quality!
love this style of videos Pete - keep chasing them gains!!
Great video, and just the motivation I needed! Had a bit of a false start last weekend, after working hard on my back and hips rehab and my long game over winter - all about the smooth swing that I can hopefully use until I'm 100 đ
Keep it up man, would be brilliant to see how much the training helps over the course of the season, and how much all that extra effort costs in other 'life departments'...
Enjoyed that Pete your vids just keep getting better keep up the good work bud
Pete, Iâm quickly becoming more and more a fan of your channel! Love your vibe and the videos are great!
Quite possibly the best video I've seen from Peter. Really informative and inspiring. We can't all be Rory but lets see how close we can get.
You got it!!!!! Congratulations ! You reached the next and very necessary level. A professional athlete. Mind, body and spirit.
Awesome content guysđđ» Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Would be great to see some more information around the specifics of the actual training routine. Would love to do something similar
What an excellent video Pete!!! Very fascinating!!!
Dude I feel that miss. Thatâs legit the same as mine! Nothing like having the hang back flips đ
absolute killer
Bryan Bros in the house.. .
Can @bryan bros golf and @peter finch golf both run an open qualifying series this year? Not sure what the path is Jerge but would love you see my two favourites approaching a similar challenge and following their journeys simultaneously.
JERGE!
@@philwright4739 Jerge would need to automatically qualify through exceptions if he doesn't qualify through the qualifying series. Otherwise, he could qualify for the US Open and win it for an exception for the next 2 Open Championships....
YES! This is exactly what I want to see!
Peter Finch competing and being the best golfer he can possibly be. I want to see you compete on the European or PGA tour someday. That would be lit
That's not going to happen pal, I'm not consistently good enough nor do I want to be a tour player on any level big or small. I love doing what I do and trying to get better at golf is a part of that journey
@@peterfinchgolf I hope thatâs from the heart and not because of what ricks ASSistant was saying. Never change Mr Finch
Might be one of my favorite videos of yours. This was quite motivating. Good work and here's to your discipline throughout the year! PS Love the Kracken shirt...
Keep grinding Pete.. im watching. much love.
Excellent Peter it shows the dedication to improve never stops.
Way to go Peter. Keep at it mate, with this level of focus and dedication, it will all come good. I look forward to seeing your at a major comp. Iâll be spectating of course, with my pie and pint đ
Really enjoyed this video mate!! Great job đ
Keep this up! Would love to see how you progress in the comps.
Hell yea. Iâve been thinking of doing this too, since heâs one of the best drivers, especially for his size!
Well done Pete, so easy for you pros to make videos and just say do this do that practice and get better, but to actually take your own advice and put in the work is great to see and watch you get better
Really neat to see this process and journey! Also, love the Kraken swag!!!
I believe in you, Pete! Keep up the hard work...it will pay off.
This video should be 2 hours long
Agree - or feel like this could have been a mini series of five or so episodes. Would have been awesome to get more insights at various points
Best comment⊠and spot on
One of my favourite videos you have done this year
Great watch and informative. Don't know where the motivation comes from to maintain the gym everyday. 5am starts would kill me. Well done Pete good luck for the season I'm sure you'll smash it đ
Way to go Pete! major challenge! Hope you keep it up, is surely watch
Excellent content. I think more of us want to see this side of things and what goes into performing at top events.
Good video. Very interesting. Good luck in your tournaments.
Donât often comment on videos but this content Pete was great. Loved how insightful it was all the way through
That was really insightful and very enjoyable to watch, great content đ
Good health is wealth my brother love your page love your journey i love learning form you good pointers...
Keep it up Finch, enjoy you and your videos. And keep pushing, you will get there! Greatings from Norwegian fan and follower. Also like how you show us ladies HQ golfers from time to time, they realy deserve it!
I had been fighting pulling my irons left for years, then saw a tip on CZcams. I had been keeping my strong driver grip (I slice a lot) while using my irons. So I weakened my grip and life got a lot better.
I'm from Seattle and always appreciate Pete's love of our sports teams.
Good stuff pete⊠keep at itâŠ..and good luck
Best of luck Peter. We need you in The Open!
Nice to see you going after it sir! Make your luck good!
As a Seattleite, I love seeing all the Seattle sports representation in your videos. Love your Seahawks golf balls.
Great video Peter. Very insightful, and very interesting. đ
Pete great Video
Keep going the work is definitely paying off
You were really close to top five at Lytham
Great video as ever
Respect...great commitment keep it up.
Great video, cool concept! Nice to see the sponsor for a video be something that actually looks like a great product. I only realised at the end it was a sponsored product and kept asking myself what this product was throughout the video haha
Also, great to see that your body health is improving. Those thick grips are helping.
Really good vid, I like the goals and the explanations, I started whoop a few weeks to go and yes the data is very illuminating! Keep the great content coming and good luck keeping the regime going for the season đ
thanks David
wow, loving your razor focus for this year, it's awesome to see. Wishing the success you deserve! tempo of course seems to come from whoop recovery..., yes?
You did well Pete. We're human, not robots. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing your goals achieved. We're all pulling for ya!
@Peter Finch one of your very best posts. Congrats.
Keep it up buddy. You got this. Iâm seeing a at least one first place this year for sure.
YES CHAMP! I love this content.
How did I just now notice all the seattle gear you wear, happy to have you repping my state đ
Keep my hopes up Pete. You push the rest of us push. Thanks. As always #1
Yas, been waiting for this one!
Great video. Inspiring
Blogs are improving all the time Peter đđđ
I'd LOVE to see Pete do some content on his gym training to help his golf specifically and also see him get SHREDDED!
Pretty impressive Pete, pretty pretty impressive. I think you will achieve your goals.
đȘđ»đȘđ» Pretty great results even if slightly below what you wanted, keep it up fella!
Love that you're repping Seattle!
Pete, don't be too hard on yourself, only one player under at Lytham and my humble opinion you look more confident and smooth in your swing. Everything you are doing is new and as such can take time to bed in properly. I would love to mimic this journey but just watching the first gym footage and I'm knackered đ. Keep strong and keep improving mate.đ
Good luck Pete. Starting the season đ„đ„đ„
I'd love to see you keep this up for the season and see where it takes the quest, best of luck with getting to the open. Do you have the training details published anywhere in case any of us want to follow along?
This is great content, I can really see just how hard youâre working at it! đ
Keep going Pete. Just goes to show how much discipline the top pros need.
Great vlog Peter - very interesting to see the sort of work that a tour player has to put in compared to us mere mortals. Shame about Royal St Lytham's but hey that's golf as you know. Goodluck
PS - Murph looked pretty damn miffed with you...
This is a great video and a really worthwhile effort. Honestly though my favorite part - being from Seattle - was the Seahawks cap and Kraken shirt!
awesome stuff here! love it!!
Donât punish yourself too much. Discipline is important in any area of life, but so is decent downtime. Itâs just about getting the balance right. I really enjoy seeing your vids on the swing and Iâm using them a lot. Today wasnât a good day for me swing wise, but Iâm not getting mad at you about it!đ€Ł I need to keep working at it and get that muscle memory dialled in! Keep up the good work sir!
This thumbnail was just absolutely top-notch!
Thanks for the Murph footage.
Love seeing videos like this rather than the ones of what new clubs youâve been given (thatâs not solely aimed at you but the majority of CZcams golfers).
Letâs see more of the actual journey & what it takes to improve please.
TY, got some new tech vids coming next week though đ
@@peterfinchgolf I donât mind see the tech videos now & then but as a viewer we seem to get flooded with similar videos all too often.
Iâm no longer able to play (having fractured my spine twice) & the videos you do (like this one) or the ones where you attempt to score better than a pro during a competition allow me to see & feel what itâs like to play again.
Nothing can beat the highâs & lowâs of a round.
Keep up the great work.
Love te video, and all that jazz, but that blue FJ hat...I NEED IT.
Anybody else anxious about Pete scraping his driver on the wall đŹ.. great video as always!
Great video Pete
I like seeing you rep so many Seattle teams!
Really like this style of content
Love the thumbnail. Love the dedication. You can do it Pete. đ„
Iâve been training like this with a TPi trainer for a year it really helps stability immensely
stayed away from the drinks trolley ... quite a bitđ great content and interesting thing to do
love all the Seattle sports gear!!!
Stay with it mate!
Great video Pete! Do you think you could share a couple of gym routines?
Have to say, 100% agree regarding Whoop, The feedback and analysis is fantastic. Interesting how alcohol often leads to a bad nights sleep and poor recovery⊠shame because I do like alcohol.
When Pete said, "I've stayed away from the drinks trolley"... I felt that... and I'm not even sure an E belongs in "trolley".
very interesting this vidéo, it shows how hard is a professional golfer life. you have to try again and you will hit it. good luck
Defo going to make final qualifying this time. Keep that work ethic and hole those putts and it's a certđ
