The achievements of these guys constantly remind us all of the size and scale of Aston Villa and the UK's Second City. Villa didn't become European Champions through financial doping or being media favourites and attracting large sponsorship kitties, it was all achieved through the natural huge size and indomitable spirit of the club. If every Villa fan sticks together and believes, I am certain the greatest and grandest club of them all will bring this trophy back to the Midlands again.
Very accurately said. In those days, football and romance went hand in hand/as the cliché goes/and maybe that's why a large number of talented players were born, for whom the crowds filled the stadiums. Nowadays it's all shoving, kicking, biting, tattoos and fancy hairstyles and advertising, and young supporters argue about who is greater - Ronaldo or Messi. The other players just don't stand out and attract attention!

When i started to watch the villa as a kid in 1970 they had just got relegated to the 3rd division so it was an incredible time to follow that journey from there all the way to being European champions. There were many wonderful moments throughout, what joy they brought us all.
Such happy memories. 80/81 was my first year as a season ticket holder and I'm still there. Rotterdam was an amazing experience. What a great team we had. Always proud to be a villan. UTV

I'm an old Forest fan since 1977 and us Liverpool and Villa were so dominant in Europe Fekin fabulous days which I treasure with all my heart and soul Brings a tear to my eyes cause the likes will never be seen again Its different now there is no fun anymore So the 70s and 80s are my best days and memories I even watched Villa win it and cheered them too They were brilliant Great days we'll done chaps lol 🥅⚽❤️🍀1️⃣☯️👏
I have probably watched about 5000 games on TV in my life but that Euro Final is the greatest in my life.
Was enough lucky to be at the final in Rotterdam and for the semi final at Anderlecht . Such great memories of such a historic achievement in Aston Villa's proud past. Hissing Sid is my favourite all time Villa player , could pass the ball , score goals , tackle, a complete player if ever there was one.
She wore a claret ribbon in the month of may. I was there for semi and final. Great memories.❤ Lovely sunny day in Rotterdam.
I was at the match at Highbury 1981 when we lost to Arsenal, but Ipswich also lost so AVFC won the league. Us Villa supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate. Very nicely the Arsenal stewards and police let us celebrate and didn't drag us away. It paved our path to the Feynoord stadium in Rotterdam 26 May 1982. A hot an sultry evening. Most ecstatic orgasmic night of my life. Nigel Spinks was a star man. On ferry back to England we celebrated with a huge English breakfast...and several celebratory libations. Bliss

First game I ever went to was Villa v Ipswich 80/81 age 6/7.
The age when you are a young lad and you choose or inherit your team for life , the team that seals that lifelong love you have for your club.
This was the side we had at that time in my life,when I inherited my love for the Villa.
What a side to have!!!
When I fell in love with the Villa we were champions of Europe and England!!

Fantastic video! The Ron Saunders era still remains my favourite time supporting and watching the club. I'm still so devastated that General Galtieri stopped me from going to Rotterdam for that memorable night! Wonderful to listen to the guy's reminiscing. Sid is absolutely spot on when he said todays game is just about money but back then it was about playing and winning. Great watch!

I was so fortunate to be watching these guys play back in the late 70’s early 80’s. A team of true legends from a time when the money didn’t matter and the shorts were shorter. A huge thank you to all of them for making my teenage years so exciting and memorable. If only football was the game it was then I might still be going. A truly legendary team. UTV.

Best podcast seen for years , loved listening to these Villa legends. There thoughts, their togetherness, unknown facts for instance blisters from Nike boots , Nike rep then used adidas 2000 boot players loved for comfort to redesign Nike boot. Brilliant stories! Interesting to watch and listen to.
Great to see them all looking so well. Apart from the grey hair, they all look like they could still pull on the shirt 😆. Just glad I was around to see them play, not sure we'll reach those heights again in my lifetime

It was an absolute disgrace the way Villa were never given any credit for their great achievements unlike the darlings of the media Man Utd, Chelski and Man City etc
It shows how biased and powerful the media is that not one Villa player was picked to represent England in the 19 82 World Cup.
An England team that never even got past the group stages.

Amazing Villa team! Nobody bet on the club. But this one got UCL. What a fantastic season... several discredited clubs won the biggest continental trophy. I believe Forest's success influenced Villa.
I was around 8 or 9 during the early 80s glory days but I remember these players better than recent teams
yes legends of villas glorious past i was lucky too see all the home games in 1980/1981 season me & dad went to highbury last game villa lost but won the title thanks middlesbrough who beat ipswich went down in 1981/82 a few game s seen last match march 1982 vs kiev we left england then but villa went on to win the cup magic up the villa great too see the villa boys looking so well

Absolute legends! Thanks for the indelible memories. The team never really ever got the credit they deserved due to the bias towards Midlands football that's still evident today. A lot of that team should've gained numerous international caps but because of the fact it was Villa...they never did! All the love in the world boys from a proud Villa fan.

These guys are the reason I chose Villa as a 5 year old back in 1980.
I remember my first Villa game under the lights as a small boy sitting in the Trinity Road end. Andy Lochead was the centre forward at that time and if I recall that was the season Villa got promoted to the old second division.

Ah such memories, best days of my life I realise that now having suffered for my sins of well over 40 years of following the Villa but I also realise how incredibly fortunate I was to have been there when you read the younger fans perspectives on forums who have only lived through the last 20 years of false hopes, under achievement , decline but now hopefully better days again Hopefully I say as football today is taken over by State run clubs
I was 12 In 1980 and my Dad bought me a a season ticket in the old Witton Lane stand in November for the remainder of the season as an early present for my 13th Birthday in December What a season to get your first it was fantastic , being fortunate enough to be there for all the big games in the run in I especially remember the Liverpool game, I think it was after that that we really believed we can do this out playing the greatest side of the era convincingly And of course the West Brom game and the normally impeccable Brendan Batsons last minute back pass with Withey lifting the ball over Tony Godden was it -? Into the net to send the whole ground ballistic The Liverpool game showed us we were good enough and belonged at the top of the league on merit and the Albion game just made you feel like we had those little breaks you need as well
And the floodlights Yes , those AV floodlights , ah nothing will ever beat them for me, I loved those lights !Used to spend ages counting every single lamp before the games
Only disappointment was losing to Ipswich 3 x and outplaying them in every game , so frustrating as they were the clear media darlings at the time
But in my very first game against Arsenal , and my very first game ever going to VP on my own It had been snowing a few days before and less than 10 minutes from my house I slipped going down Hamstead Hill and broke my arm!
Jeeze, did it hurt at first but nothing was stopping me , the adrenalin kicked in after about 20 mins and I was on my way to, ok a little gingerly, Hamstead Village, up Rocky Lane and onto to the Walsall road I think
I remember telling my mom that my my arm was hurting badly after I got back and I thought I`d broken it but she was having none of it She thought I was trying to wag off school and it took until Wednesday when it was pretty swollen before I was up Dudley road hospital with it being put in plaster She actually felt that bad about it after that she bought me one if those new Polaroid Instamtic cameras and to this day I still have that little faded photo she took of me and my brother after , me with arm in sling
Had a season ticket the next season as well and for the next few seasons after until my parents stopped paying and I reverted to paying a quid , my weekly pocket money to stand in the Holte , but my biggest regret is always I was too young to go to Rotterdam for the final on my own and had no one to take me
I hadn`t even ever been to London before !

As legends, for me, those guys are right up there with the Apollo 11 crew! 😂 Shame about the shirt swapping, but that was quite a common thing to do in those days. Thought Gary Shaw, a Villa supporter, might have known better though ..

Fate! When u watch the goal, if the ball hadn't slipped of Peters boot/shin at that exact angle to just squeeze past the Keepers n inside the post, the Keeper would have blocked the ball and saved it! The Keeper dud well, came out fast, really spread himself well, as was right on Peter, I thought he'd missed! I couldn't believe it went in! Unbelievable!👍🙏😎🤣🤣🤣
1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1983 5 trophies in 8 years! I doubt Villa will ever do this again.
You forget the charity shield they shared with spurs 2 - 2 at Wembley so it's 6 trophies

Let me tell you 100%. Dennis Mortimer was a far better player than Stan, not even close. Dennis was a far more complete midfielder than Stan was. Dennis and Sid would have made Stan and Gareth Barry look pretty weak and would have eaten them for breakfast. I love them all but that is a fact!
