Brings back memories. Back in the early 90's I worked with a boy that had a met blue one of these, I had the Cavalier GSi also in met blue. Young lads, we thought we were the dogs bol... Wish I'd been more of a pic taker in those days to look back on.
Yeah I wish I’d taken pics of my older stuff . I can kick myself for the amount of cars I let go for silly money you just don’t think things will ever get rare. I sold an Uno Turbo and GT Turbo for a couple of grand in the 90s and 205 1.9s I killed 2 and sold 2 for peanuts . Not as bad a guy I knew though he swapped a Sapphire Cosworth for…. a Vauxhall Frontera Sport 🤣🤣

After my grandad died, my nan gave his old car away to help with the mortgage. My grandad loved his cars and had all sorts. If she kept the car until now then sold it, about 20k+

In the early 90s I lusted over Cavalier GSIs bud. I was only just past my driving test I could never afford one back then. Youse certainly were the dogs balls, lucky young men, fair play!

This is Vauxhall perfection in my eyes, a white mk3 gsi, on cav turbo rims and a z20 under the bonnet. Only thing I’d change is the window tints. Awesome.

Love the rims too, they were also used on the South African only produced Astra and Kadett 200TS, a true BEAST of a car in its time!
Beautiful car. In South Africa, these models were available only in 4dr. The mag wheels on this vehicle was on the Opel Kadette 200ts. C20let 16v turbo motor. Similar to the C20xe GSI motor. Very powerful and very limited number produced.

Don't like the rim but love the 200TS. Dude, any chance you know where I can get a start up map (powermods) for Z20LET or Z20LEH? Friend of mine put a Z20LEH into a kadett, it starts and revs to the moon but won't drive. I'm thinking the guy who worked on his ECU loaded the wrong map.
I had the 2.0 16v red top on a J plate in red when I was 19, what a car it was wish I kept it
I know of 3 GSI models. 2.0 16v C20XE 150 bhp and the 1.8 16v C18XE 125bhp ( not many made and referred to as a ‘baby red top’) then the later Ecotec 2.0 16v phase 2 GSI C20XEV 134bhp. That’s showing up as the 1.8 so yeah proper rare car.
Mine started out life as a 1.8 16V. No fog lights, headlight washers or bonnet vents I think, there were a few bits missing from the C20XE version

@@Rik_D Yeah they carried that engine over to the early Mk 2 GTE. I had a rare 5 door 1.8 8v GTE Mk2 in the mid 90’s.

Could not afford one and got a 1990 bordeaux red astra 3 door 1.8 sri instead which i bought in 1995.
Still a great car and did nearly 200,000 miles with it on the original clutch & gearbox and was perfect when i sold it back in 2004.
A very rare car now and never saw a bordeaux red astra sri back in the day.
It was the same colour as the bordeaux red gte 16v astra's of course.

Nice, i had a Mk1 GTE in white, then a mk2 GTE in red then as J reg (J862GAT) in red. had a 6speed Calibra box in it. used to take it on track days and thrash the pants off it :-) lovely car i had it for about 7yr - if only i had kept it, and the mk1....
Vauxhall glory cars still lust after them, so rare and that's an amazing bit of engineering retro but new twist 💪😎
I melted a piston in my 200bhp escort rs turbo “racing” one of these with a red top turbo engine, off the clock and white smoke ensued and it was curtains. Unbeknown to me the Mrs had to put normal unleaded in the car as they had no super unleaded as she used it for work that morning, mapped for super and was flat in 5th.
Also I disagree the Vauxhalls were not on a level looks or interior wise with the fords of that era.

@@jch2211 No she knew not to use normal unleaded unless she was stuck and couldn’t get super, this morning she put £5 in it enough to get her home. She never thought to mention it, or probably knew the reasons or science behind exactly why she had to use it. I’ll never let her forget it 😆 this was 2002 so a long time ago now.

I had a Astra GTE 16v (F reg Coscast no ABS or cat) in the 90s and still miss that car. Great car and great fun.
I have just finished forged Z20LEH with upgrated turbo core, 2,5" stainless steel exhaust, big cooler, VXR astra's cluch and Maxxecu in Frontera A sport.
It's been running great for 4 weeks now.
Not the most powerful Z20LEH in the world, maybe not even 200hp yet with 0,6bar boost but it definetily is really fun car to drive already.
Trying to get it to dyno in few weeks and then to inspection to make it street legal.
And then I can start to play with boost control...

Mk 2 1.3l Astra was my first car. In red on a d plate. I loved the gte’s back in the day
I miss mine. L558 LSF. Black Mk3 GSI. Calibra Turbo engine, fully forged running 350bhp. The noise was the best part. it was epic.

Cossies against the AWD Calibra turbo's. 2.1 ZVH conversions with a T34 in a mk3 Fiesta or S2 Escort up against highly modded Corsa's and Astra's.
I remember when the Vauxhall lads piped up when the Astra VXR first came out. Then the mk2 Focus RS came out.

Note; it scared me because of the terrifying under steering not the power( 168bhp with a few mods😏)

Vauxhall often maligned but they did some cool stuff in the 80s and 90s... As well as the newer Holden stuff.
Oh the memories eh the chase was fantastic don't forget the Nova gsi in candy paint more memories fs but then ye get a bird then comes along a kid and our toys just disappear.
In the south African market ,they had ,back in the day, the mk3 Astra turbo 4x4 with the calibra turbo engine. Never seen a genuine one on the roads.
Local armed coppers had em when I was In Durban. Superboss opal kadett. Flyin machine.

C20XE (phase 1)
X20XEV (phase 2)
Little fact here. Seats are Recaros in many of the Vauxhalls like the MK1 & 2 GTE, Astra MK3 GSI, Cavalier SRI, GSI and Turbo. But trimmed by Vauxhall.

The Red Top was Fitted to the GSI Cavalier Turbo The 4b4 Turbo Calibra and The Mk1 16V GTE. The Head was Cosworth Developed For GM.

I could be wrong, but the pre-facelift mk3 GSI Were mostly 2.0, the 1.8 didn’t have the front fog lamps originally…. but that was the only difference (as I remember)

My learner car was one of them.
Never heard of the 1.8 model. There’s some debate online if this was originally an 8 valve, as everyone is saying it was still a 16 valve. Apparently the logbook were wrong saying 8 valve but one guy is saying there was only 14 built with the 8 valve.
