    Thank you for this.
    Somebody may use this info:
    if your are using a plug in to bend your structures (like fredo scale) just remember to smooth the surface a little bit before applying the textures.

    Useful video. I watched this a couple of years ago and it was a big help. Some comments:
    - The fixed pin option in texture positioning is not present in current (7.x) SU.
    - Whereas the green pin (lower right corner) The height of the texture can be used to rotate and adjust horizontal size of the texture, the image can be scaled using the blue pin (top left corner)... do this first, and then adjust the width with the green pin.
    Perhaps it would be worth uploading a new version of this video :)

      I tried the same silly thing but Sketchup says it is not possible....i suppose that is the kind of limitation of an "sketch" tool like SketchUp (which i love so far for its simplicity and elegant simplified but also stylized renders) compared to full blown CAD programs like SolidWorks, etc.

  • @volatileant

    If the texture is applied to a Group or Component, there will be no 'Texture' in the right click menu. The geometry itself must have the texture you desire to be projected.

    Great video! However, be careful when you are copy the texture from the "projected" version to the actual model. If your actual model has more surface length b/c it is curved radically in one direction you will end up tiling the image again on the actual model. Wonderful video and technique though!!!

I have followed this video step by step (I think, ha) and can get the logo on the cylinder, but it looks really messed up! Like there are 20 logos massed together. Any advice?

    I am a landscape designer. I have a site plan that I want to "drape or overlay" the site plan over a topography or the component that I have created. Can this same method be used for what I am trying to do, or is there a better way to create that? Again, all I am wanting to do is take a jpeg of a site plan, and overlay it on top of the component/ topography that I have created. I can't seem to find a tutorial on this, but I feel like it should be easy to do...
    Thanks

    • @douglasgliedtii4930
      @douglasgliedtii4930 Před 10 lety

      I believe all you'd have to do is perhaps lock your model (for ease of selecting), create a rectangle over the whole site, move it up in the blue direction several feet above your model - then apply jpeg texture to your plane you've created. Select the face, click texture > Projected, then sample that texture and paint it over your model's topo. After unlocking it that is lol. Good luck!
