EXTERIOR
This RS1600i is finished in iconic Ford Diamond White, (Code B 3), and has a faultless uniform shine across every factory fitted and date stamped panel. The distinctive original RS decals are perfect and the rear wing is straight with no distortion issues and the front spoiler displays clearly the Motorsport logo and part number. There is a tiny chip to the Ford front windscreen and a touched-in mark to the bonnet which has never been painted. The correct stance is instantly recognisable as this example still sits on the special Koni shock absorbers only fitted to the RS1600i lowering the car by two inches. All components are exactly as it left the Ford factory and the underside is spotlessly clean and fully detailed.
INTERIOR
The interior of this RS1600i is in truly immaculate. Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour (Code TC), the special RS seats and deep side bolsters have retained perfect structural integrity with no sagging and the matching door cards and perforated headlining are in pristine condition. The deep grey carpets are spotless and free from undue wear and are protected by four genuine Ford waffle rubber floor mats. The dashboard has no cracks and all interior equipment is functional including the fuel thrust cut-off warning lights. The RS 4-spoke leather trimmed steering wheel and special gearshift gaiter and knob defy their age with minimal marks. The boot area is spotlessly clean including the immaculate rear parcel shelf and the colour code sticker is attached to the back panel. Incredibly the TC Key Number is still inscribed on the boot floor!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Fords transverse mounted 1600 OHC Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit producing 115 BHP. Mated to the Bosch K-Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut-off, special alloy cylinder head and camshaft the car has a top speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8.7 seconds. The engine bay is remarkably clean with even the delicate factory stickers being original. The twin coil set-up and finned cast alloy rocker cover are proudly on display ready for bonnet up exhibiting! The gear changes are light and a joy to use with the unique 0.83 fifth gear ratio fitted only to the RS1600i to close the gap between fourth and fifth gear.
HISTORY FILE
Introduced in September 1981, this stunning example was built in April 1983 and is one of 2,600 UK examples and just one of 530 in Diamond White. (Source: RS Owners Club). Registered new on the 26th May 1983 by the Ford Motor Co Ltd in Brentwood Essex, it had one private owner, Mr Rose until September 1984 when Mr Robbert Goddard purchased it. Mr Goddard paid £6,700 plus £100 for the warranty Care Car Plan, (the same price the car cost new over a year earlier!), from Tower Garage (Stokenchurch) Ltd. Incredibly, the Goddard family remained the cars custodians until 2019 after Geoff Goddard inherited the vehicle from his father in 2012. Mr Goddard seniors ownership is beautifully detailed by his son in writing explaining fully his life with the car during their 35 years of ownership. The car has since been owned by RS Owners enthusiasts including Mr Gary Ball who had five White performance Escorts from the Mk1 Twin Cam to the mighty Mk5 RS Cosworth, all making the front cover of Classic & Sports Car in December 2020, a copy of which is included in the history file. This example will please the most discerning collector wanting one of the very best examples.
HPI Clear.
52k? That car will never see the road anymore. It'll live on a trailer and in a heated garage as an investment
We have driven it on the road!
Beautiful RS1600i
It is, thanks!
Absolutely fabulous!
Thank you
I was at ASET collage in Aberdeen about 10 years ago and a black A reg RS1600 was being used to train the apprentice mechanics, strip it apart and rebuild it again, put a dent in the body and repair that sort of thing, it still looked in pretty good condition, I spoke to one of the instructors and he told me they had been given it by one of the large main dealer groups for a couple of hundred quid, I've seen online the RS community used to look down on the RS1600I but obviously not any more.
No very collectable now!
an incredible and beautiful car, best wishes from Germany!
Thanks Germany! From England.
Another lovely car ❤
It really is!
My OCD is absolutely SCREAMING about the incorrect positioning of the window winder handles, but other than that the car looks perfect!
Damn, we missed that!
Beautiful RS 1600i or RS 2000 That’s The Car For Me

Dream car! ❤
Make your dreams come true....................
@@KGFClassicCars living out my other dream at the moment with a fully custom VW T4! That will need to do for now! 😉 Love your cars though, they’re all immaculate and so well presented. 😊👍
In todays money the £7K asking price in 1982 is about £25K adjusted for inflation. Seems like it turned out to be a decent investment.
Thank you for your comments
Beautiful car, this is, and to see the guy filming it, and getting inside it, to smash its doors like this, that's not on.
This car in particular, 40 years old, or nearly that, rare when it was even new.
I love every type of Ford Escort MK 3, this ones are some of the rarest, the RS 1600I.
And it gets its doors smashed like this?
Some people just don't bother i guess!.
As long as he doesn't break it, not so bad after all!
On another note, good work, terrific videos, with great vehicles in general, bikes cars, vans, etc.
Keep the good work!
What are you waffling on about, smashing the doors😂its called closing them and wont do it any harm at all.
I think someone needs to calm down 😂, things can actually sound louder on camera, especially as they're indoors.
Calm down yourselves, immature teenagers, by your replays to my comment, you look exactly like that. I can say whatever I want, just like the 2 of you, I don't agree with you, but I don't try to shut you down, so man up, grow up, and get a life boys, this is the internet, you get offended too easily! . Up to you if you grow up or not!
@@josemariadediegoaranguren9018 sounds like you're the one that's offended to easily.
Thank you for your observations
Looking like a million 😍 dollars 💵 ❤😊
We would prefer UK Pounds please £££!
Lovely car ❤ But the question I want answered is what was on the tape in the stereo 😂
Sorry to disappoint but there is no tape in the stereo. We can include one from the 1980's if you want!?
no electric windows in that model grr what a heck of price tag
Not on this one. The factory options are: Tilt/Slide glass sunroof, Ford RST21P radio stereo cassette.
I don't like it
I LOVE. IT !
Thanks, so do WE!
White gloves please!...
Sorry, red socks only!
