- As part of my 2023 Christmas design series, I embellished a metallic gold urn with a French inspired rub-on transfer: • Gold Christmas Lilies ...
So many of you loved it enough to repeat it. I’m pleased I could inspire.
It’s a classic that can be used for lots of designs throughout the year. So, in response to the many requests received, in today’s design the chosen container will be the golden urn filled with winter white protea, a few sprigs of wildflowers, twiggy branches, along with half a dozen freeze-dried apricot roses and a few autumn toned leaves!

Lovely Astar!
I absolutely love this design Astar! 🎉🎉
Wow! You might turn me into a gold person with this one! 🤩 It’s gorgeous! Could see this on a Thanksgiving table even because it’s so sumptuous! I love how you show how to use these containers for multiple arrangements because I’m sure some folks don’t have room to store dozens of vases! But a few statement pieces like this one could be all you need! Really well done, Astar!!! Thank you!
Hi Jesse, thank you for your kind comments. Like you, gold wasn't really something I found visually attractive, however with fresh eyes I'm finding new visual possibilities. Over the years there have been numerous requests asking how and when it can be used, especially in floral design which got me thinking??? TBH, full on gold can dominate, but by embellishing the exterior with the rub-on black transfers takes the edge off and brings it down a scale or two. This particular urn looks great as a statement piece on its own or equally nice filled with either fresh or artificial flowers, or just branches or just foliage. This container gets to walk a few more design miles before it's next revamp.
I like to think that others might slip into the 'let's just revamp' containers to save space and save a few pennies. As my mother used to say -' waste not want not'.
Keep safe and very warm regards, Astar
PS: we hit 200k subscribers the other day, which delights as you'd imagine. The word about the joys of the botanical world is growing.
❤love it
❤❤❤FABULOUS!
How beautiful, Astar! I’m not a fan of gold (or brass or copper), but I do think the black transfers help a lot.
Question: can you use the transfers on the faux silver mercury glass vase you did recently? Or does it trash the paint?
Thank you for another beautiful design!
Are you going to do more episodes with seasonal with the same vessal?
Hi Beth, well yes I am. I'm not sure why it has taken so long to return to gold, but I love and adore this container. I did a Christmas design in it last year and kept looking at it thinking now what??? A look back through my 'things to do and address' had me discover just how many requests I've had about designing with gold especially containers. Gold has a place, and I'm delighted to share all that I am discovering.
Kind regards, Astar
