15 years ago I had retinal detachment I was petrified to loose my eyesight but Thank God I had a wonderful dr who did the surgery and put a buckle I could not understand how it was done ,Finally I understand after watching your video Thank you Thank you my vision is 20/25 even after 15yrs ♥️

I recently had a detached retina and repair by vitrectomy with laser welds and gas bubble insertion.
Am now 32 days since surgery. Recovery is going well. Face-down recovery needs much better discussion
before the surgery. This was awful due to not having proper equipment. The gas bubble is weird now. Hoping it will
go away soon. This is by far the best video to explain to family and friends exactly what has happened to me.

Thank you for the very informative video, doctor. 4 1/2 years ago I had torn retina in Left Eye and had the three parts surgery done. Vitrectomy, torn retina, and gas bubble and scleral buckle. My vision was completely restored and I have perfect vision since then. I had the best retina surgeon in the world!

I JUST HAD BUCKEL, BUBBLE, AND VITRECTOMY AT DUKE 10 DAYS AGO. SO FAR NO PROBLEMS.

I too ironically am watching this video after my vitrectomy done a week ago today. I did have a retinal tear that was a detachment. It was repaired using laser and a gas bubble and saline solution replaced the vitreous jelly. I have ben having to keep my head down now for the second day as part of the gas bubble moved out to the front of my eye, so my ophthalmologist suggested keeping my head down to allow it to retract to the back. My tear/separation was in the upper right of my right eye which had the loss of vision as stated in this video. It is pretty difficult to remain with your head down for days on end! I hope this does indeed repair my vision so I can go back to work! Thanks for the great video and explanations.
starwarsfanforlife prior to detachment, did you see tons of floaters? I know those are harmless and common, but when you're at risk (myself) it's scary 😨
Some One I have had floaters for quite a long time. After the vitrectomy they filled my eye with saline solution. To my elation it also removed the floaters in that eye!! I have had floaters in both eyes and now one eye is super clear. I notice the floaters in the other eye a lot more now.

starwarsfanforlife I just had a victectomy retinal detachment surgery about a week ago! I’m still in recovery process.The doctor said I had alot of tissue damage that they removed an they filled my eye with the Saleen solution you mentioned, but I don’t have a gas bubble. They also told me that I have to go back for another procedure in a couple of months to get the solution removed. How long did you have to lay with your head faced down? An how long it take you to get most of your vision back?

Hey , my brother is getting the surgery today can you tell me what to expect please. Is his vision back? How many weeks did it take?
@@amalsletter9552 Hello, I hope your brother's operation went well. Our doctor told us that he might recover 80% of his vision (because we waited for a while after it was first diagnosed).
The most annoying thing for us was that he had to keep his head facing down all the time for a week(even when he slept or ate!). Also no air travel.
The doctor put some gas inside his eye, so that the gas kept the pressure on the stitched retina, so it wouldn't peel off again. My dad was 55 when he had his surgery.
2 weeks after the surgery, we had to check with his eye doctor regularly (every 2-4 weeks), to make sure everything is alright and the torn retina healed gradually.
At first he was shocked because he couldn't see clearly, but it took a few more weeks until it got better and better. Fortunately, he now recovered 100% of his vision.
I'd say it took him 4-5 months until he feels really comfortable again and completely forget about his surgery.

The doctor told him to face down for only 24h and it was difficult because he’s 14 ( can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been for your dad . A whole week!). Thanks for the help
@@amalsletter9552 yeah, that's one of the hardest parts of this treatment. But if he wants to avoid it's torn again, we have to do it consistently.
Oh, did you know that this illness has genetical tendency? If you start seeing more floaters, better consult with your eye doctor.

@@antoniusjody Yes I know . I have done many research about the subject . He had two surgeries on his eye which is one of the causes of the torn retina. Thanks for the advice though. It was so nice talking to you , you seem so genuine which I appreciate.

GREAT video. I've had both eyes suffer RD. Writing this 2 weeks after last surgery. I cannot express enough that you take action AS SOON AS you notice the symptoms shown. This is CRITICAL, as the detachment progressively gets worst hour by hour. I chit you not. The sooner you start treatment, the less detachment has occurred and so recovery and a better outcome is more likely. Good luck
Hi Brian, I wish I had got mine seen to sooner. I left it 5 months before going to the opticians! I've had the buckle surgery.... It didn't work. In 3 weeks I'm having a vitrectomy with oil bubble. Honestly scared but I know it needs doing. I can't stress enough to people to get it seen as soon as they notice.

Your symptoms tells me, and I'm no expert, that there are clearly varying degrees of degeneration. Mine was noticeable, yours obviously did not raise any serious concerns at first. My sight is still not clear after some 8 weeks or so. Improvement has been frustrating slow.

I had all three done 2 months ago. But one eye went mostly blind in one Week. The doctor said if I had come to him early enough he could probably have fixed with just a laser. When I lost sight in the eye it was terrifying. Now I see very blurry, but I can see. Doctor says I should improve. Next checkup is in March. Check out Saint Raphael Archangel. Ask him to pray to Jesus for you. I had no money or insurance but everything came together and I got the operation. They wanted everything up front or I would be blind. Look him up I'm serious. I will pray for you. God bless you.

I was surprised to discover that ophthalmologists only image the centre of the retina, rarely using a binocular ophthalmoscope to check the periphery. Does this need to be addressed as my retinal haemorrhage was missed by 3 ophthalmologists.

My son had two retinal detachment surgeries. One when he was 3 and other when he was 5 years old. Now he does not see out of his one eye. Seems like it was a waste putting him through those surgeries. He is 7 now and the scleral buckle kind of irritates him when hes reading. My question is, can he ever gain sight in that eye. Should I get the buckle removed since he does not see anyways and causes him some kinda discomfort.
Thank you so much. I just had cataract surgery and retinal surgery without laser, gas or silicone. cause it did not tear. But 4 weeks after surgery when I sit down on the floor and look down later I can a small ball, sometimes 3, it flights up when I look up it melt like black smoke and disappear. When I woke up, open and close the eye I can flash light fly around the eye for a few second and disappear. What happened? Is it dangerous?
Is it posdible to remove the Vutrous gel, to avoid retinal detachment? ...particularly if one eye already had a RD and the othet eye have high Myopia
Sir i had the trauma. There was a cut on my cornea the doctornext day perform sergery before surgery i could see only light but after sergery i have no vision everything is dark. On using torch light i see a little glow dot moving but on some places. B Scan tells that retina is detatched. Doctors still can't give satisfactory opinion. Please guide me I'musing eyedrops currently. Mexidex, vigamox and cyclopen

I had rt eye rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and had a vitrectomy surgery. Now am in 4th day post surgery. Keepingmy face down position to ensure the gas bubble stays put. I only sleep on my left side and all these for next two weeks or so.
this video has explained exactly what happened to me 2 weeks ago. i had cataracts done on both eyes in june 2020 and two weeks after the left eyes was done i noticed a shadow coming across my eye, because my sister had gone blind after a cataract operation i telephoned my doctor who did the surgery and said i had this shadow inn my left eye and although i was away from home at that time he requested that i return home immediately this was on the Tuesday and on the Thursday at 10.45a.m. he saw me and by 4.30 the same day i had emergency surgery the retina had started to peal away from the eye, i was shocked had i not jumped onto this (only because of my sisters bad experience) i could or would have gone blind i also had laser on tears in my right eye. so cataract operations can have their consequences they say 1 in 10000 don't take this situation casually once the retina comes away there is no fixing it. I still have a bit of the gas bubble in my eye. and i have done quite a bit of research on this and i find this video to be very easy to understand how devastating this could be. thank you for your time in putting this video together. After looking at this video several times I am confident of a full recovery I just have a small bubble left that should slowly disappear.

You made no mention of the SILICON OIL-- that will last much LONGER- and can even be left in place indefinitely.. which is what mine will be!! ADVICE.. ?? Mine involves removing a BAD cataract that is old and hard-- he says on scale of 1-10, mine is 15 or more- and will take him an hour at least maybe more to get out-- and is risky for further damage.. then he's doing the VITRECOMY same time while he's in there.. (I don't think it requires the head to be in any certain position for a lengthy time like the other.. ) HOPEFULLY- I have lots of arthritic issues due to having been mashed between two trucks in 99 and can NOT hold a particular position for more than very few minutes wihtout moving-otherwise I have EXTREME pain..

Hello, professor. This has been most informative. I was very nearsighted before a ball shoved my glasses into my eye at 11 years old. The doctor applied surgery to both eyes for some reason and since then, I lost sight in the damaged I and have had more than 10 surgeries on the other one that was not hit. I am 30 years old now and can only see some lights and such from one eye. Is there a cure? Do stem cell implants work?

As I watch this Im gowned and waiting to be taken to theatre for retinal detachment repair. Didnt recognise initial symptoms so surgery will take place 6 days post injury.

@@elilynleeHow strange. I had completely forgotten about my post till seeing your question. My operation was carried out as an emergency so I was added to the end of a pre planned list and ended up having to wait for almost 8 hours before going to theatre. It was the same evening Boris Johnstone announced lockdown was to begin the next day in the UK. As I said I failed to recognise the initial "watery" symptoms so delayed until eventually the " curtain" came down on the affected eye ( which was terrifying). My eye surgeon told me I had missed the 72 hour window of opportunity after onset of symptoms so did the best he could for which I'm grateful. I had a gas bubble inserted but was unable to comply with the post operative instructions which were - get ready for this - to lie on my left side for 50 minutes in every hour for 7 days!! I was caring for my elderly mum at the time who had recently been discharged from hospital after repair to a fractured neck of femur so compliance was simply impossible. I don't know how much my non compliance affected my outcome but the only way I can describe it is try to picture what a sheet of A4 print looks like after it's been extracted from a printer which has jammed mid print - I can see out the affected eye ( thank God) but letters and words are completely skew whiff ..... jumbled up so I can no longer read with the eye and am completely reliant on the other to do this but at least I can see using both eyes even if the function in one has been severely curtailed.

I've got a question, I am very scared. I started to see white flashes in the corner of my left eye and it always happens between 4pm an 6pm for a week already. I don't have any problems with vision, but I am very scared to even open that eye. go see an optometrist as soon as possible. Do not hesitate like you have. I had my trouble with a small retinal tear and it was sealed 18 hours later. You may or may not have a problem so confront it and put your mind at rest. This is your sight we are talking about. It is so precious!!!

@ Tupa Smorc i had the same thing but a lil worse, jaggedly rainbow flashes, that would come and go periodically, early morning light or late afternoon lightl, then one morning looking at my iPad i lost 20% of my vision in the center of my left eye, it’s been a year nw and it hasn’t gotten any worse, i reeeeally need todo something about it, thus video really has me concerned.
My doctor just told me that there is a problem and it might detach, but I need to register to a new doctor so they can take a look with lasers, I need to wait for 2 months. They told me weight lifting made it. Im so scared im only 17.

@@azanfaghiri6205 hey, glad you care, I visited doctor, they said it is not a huge problem and I can still lift weights, but I can forget about a career lifting weights, because there was one professional who already had a surgery (the one that I might need if I lift heavy weights) and now he is barely able lift over 20kg,otherwise he would become blind.

Did you get it checked ?
At your age, it's probably just a "floater" and nothing to worry about. If you have any sort of eye or head trauma and immediately start having night/bed flashes that move across your eye, might want an opthalmologist to check for a tear. Catching a tear early is important because they can just laser it closed without any injections or surgery.

Please I had a retinal detachment surgery about two weeks, and still my vision is not clear. Please I want to know how long it takes for my vision to be comes clear.
Now how ur vision
In the old days, there was no medical procedure for retinal detachment...you just went blind. This surgery allows you to keep most of your vision, but isn't perfect. Your vision will probably get better, but may never be as clear as you would like.

There are different types of floaters and flashes. I had some for about a decade that didn't progress. When I got the tiny black floaters, then started seeing "lava lamp" flashes (indicates a tear), I should've had laser. I didn't and it quickly progressed to detachment. I had to get pneumatic retinopexy.
Burning retina with laser doesn't sound like a good idea
