The leds need 12v usually because they have internal resistors and you couldve soldered super thin wire as there is only 1 led per switch and at most they would pull .5watt of power haha. Super cool project though man. Im gonna go and harvest alot of buttons from the scrap yard so i can control everything in an 18 wheeler.
Your the best man!! So explanatory on how everything goes together!! Definitely gonna save me so headache when I build my boxes
I did my project using an arduino leonardo
Everything costed around £13
The prebuilt versions cost £150
Ay bud i was looking around the junk drawer called internet and i gotta say you answered my question when you showed the led o the buttons wire up i was getting a short out message on my pc when connecting to the 5 volt pin both with the ground wire as it wasn't necessary as you showed since it isn't really aneed and the buttons are already grounded with the button cables being 2 pinned and have a single led pin. I am glad i ran into your vid ill leave you a sub for any future work and updates you got my bud keep on trucking and stay healthy.
Thanx my friend I'm glad to see people are getting help out of this video
U need the Programm SVMapper!
With the Programm your Switches works like a keypad👍🏻When you turn on the switch then it press a button, when you turn it off the programm repeat it!☝🏻
Really?!! Wow I'ma have to check that out Thanx!
Haven't been able to find any downloads or info on where to get svmapped
Hey man! I appreciate the super helpful video as I am planning to build one for my ETS2. Just a quick question for you, what kind/where'd you get that black jumper cable for the led toggle switch in order for the leds to work?
It's made out of regular 16ga wire off the auto parts store shelf
@@CodeB Thank you! Appreciate the help.
great little build..i also prefer the red lol, trying to figure out what toggles i want for mine.. are any 12v toggles good to use? or do i need to find something more arcade like?
The toggles I used are actually rated for 12v. Pretty much anything you find on Amazon or ebay that says universal car accessory will probably work
@@CodeB wow you are quick! thats perfect, thanks for the reply bud.
No problem my friend. I try to get back to people as fast as I can plus I'm not a big channel so I can one on one with people more
where did you solder the LED wire on the pro micro? I cant seem to get my led's to light up. nvm you used a different board lol
They are wired into the 5v plug
Hey i have a question. Sorry for my bad english btw. So, can i also just soder the wires to the toggle switch? just want to know cause it would be easier for me.
Yes that will work. But if you get the blade on the switch to hot it could damage it inside.
Just to b sure can I use switches instead of buttons or do I have to use buttons
I have switches. But if your using the same kind of encoder as me, the switches only work one way. Example(if your using a switch for lights, once you flip the switch the lights will come on but flipping the switch back will not turn them off. You have to flip the switch off then back on to turn the lights off)
is it plug and play or use some prog? also does the buttons have conflict with wheel buttons, cose there are button 1 on wheel and button 1 on box.....if you know what i mean....
Buttons shouldn't conflict, plug and play all you have to do is plug it in go in the game set it up and map the functions you want to each button. I have other videos on button boxes as well
Thx brother, I was about to buy a $400 button box but then I saw your vid and only had to spend $40
Edit: I used a diff decoder and buttons but still the same amount
Nice 👍 if I ever learn how to program the adreno boards I'll make another video on that you can get a lot more functions out of those but these simple little encoders do pretty good
@@CodeB Nah bro yo go, Keep doing what your doing!! You are helping out so much people that are on a budget (like me)
how would you program it to keyboard buttons? that is what I want to do so say I wanted my switch to do what my up arrow does in a game how would I program it to do what arrow up does on my keyboard? any videos you can send me to?
The only thing I know how to do is to do functions in the games ats and ets2 not sure how you would make act like arrows
Dumb question I am sure but can you use any switches for this build? Thanks.
pretty much seems like it i built one for a friend with a keyswitch from the auto parts store and toggle switches he found in a junkyard
@@CodeB Sweet! So i would assume buttons then can be mapped within the game to control what you want ... would this be correct?
yes you can map buttons to anything and now i recently noticed that you can map functions for every press of a button and another for pressing and holding the button @@HucklberyTaz
Just to let you know you always get shorted on wires when you buy those kits. Pretty sure the reason why your metal switches are acting the way they are is because more than likely the two outside blades are your switch in the middle blade is your led
The blades for the LEDs on the big toggles are actually the ones on the sides. And they work the way they work because that's just how they are the only way to build these any better would be to use a Adrino controller.
@@CodeB I've got the same board I'll test the LED function on it when I get home. The big switches I have the blades in the middle are the switch and the blade on the outside is the ground for the LED. The little switches were the ones I was talking about that I think the LED is the ground. on a vehicle you hook that up to ground. Most of the LED rocker style toggles are like that. Which would explain why you have to turn it on and off to get to send a 2nd signal instead of just turning it off when you flip the switch off
@@CodeB I got an Arduino that I've been using as a test bench that I've been using to design different style button boxes using potentiometers and rotary encoders I definitely need to figure out how to power LEDs with that also I was thinking about just running a separate 12-volt power source and relays to run all my leds
Haven't done a Adrino build yet
@@CodeB I bought a Leonardo with the headers and a bunch of jumper wires just for testing. Large part of Arduino is just modifying somebody's code to fit your button box needs. joystick controller tho you can only have 32 different functions. For your first Arduino project actually buy an Arduino after you played with it check the reviews on some of the knockoff ones and make sure they have enough pins and you can get away with using those
So once the buttons are wired to the board and i plug it to Pc, it just works? It detects it automatically as another controller? Then just press the buttons and it will detect and assign them in settings?
Yeah pretty much it's simple
@@CodeBnice! Ive never built one so this is all new to me. I am excited to give this a shot. Thanks for the tutorial!
@@johndoe7109 your very welcome 😁
how have the led hold
Still working just fine
the switch LED stil work on 5v even its a 12 volt switch? (sorry for my english)
Yes the LEDs in the switches I used are working on 5v
@@CodeB ok cool thanks
@@Yann17061982 your welcome
Would u consider doing a paid build on one of these?
Yea possibly I'm currently waiting on payment for my first requested build then I can take on another
Have you seen my more recent build? It might be more interesting than this one
@@CodeB I have I like that one as well
I’m trying to think how to wire a switch so the led only works when I have it engaged
I wanted to do that to but didn't work out for me
Jump the led to the on post so when comes on led follows ... led direct to hot will just be all time hot.
Hope that helps.
nice@@HucklberyTaz never crossed my mind on that one
Do you need to run something in pc in order to let the encoder works?
I didn't windows automatically detects and sets it up then you have to select it as a secondary controller in ats or ets2 then map your buttons
@@CodeB I have an encoder and tried to connect to one of my turn signal buttons it responds but nothing happens in the windows dosnt show anything that happens on the button
Is it the same brand encoder I used?
@@CodeB nope it’s SJ@JX from Amazon I purchased it
Is it the one with the 2 4pin connections and 1 5pin that came with 2 joy sticks?
Im trying to find all the parts u used in the video but im having a problem finding them. Could u please help me out. Thank you
Which part you needing to find?

I believe I found the board and the other wires im looking for the blue big toggle switches and the smaller buttons
I was going to send the pics of the other 3 things I got to make sure they are the right ones but I don't know how to send the pics
Don't think we can share pics on here. Blue toggles a.co/d/2z1Ztts, small buttons a.co/d/a3C93C8
Would u be able to send the the info on the box and the board so I can make sure I got the right one
Hello, can you tell me what model board is that?
EG-STARTS
Thank you very much for your quick response and I already found it Grateful for your help the Very good video, good luck.
Well thanx, i will stick to the game little too much for a Game but its cool
Can this button box be used on Xbox?
I don't know if Xbox supports something like this, iv never had one and know next to nothing about them to be honest. Last console I had was the piano PS3 lol
@@CodeB OK, because I have been looking for cheap DIY button box for Xbox.
if i get any free time ill see if i can figure out if it will work on my friends xbox@@lennox469
@@CodeB thank you, so much
@@CodeB You may not of had time but does this button box work with Xbox
0/10 on your soldering but the rest looks good :)
I agree I suck at it :(
