@@KenClickthanks, Ken! I’ve never canned before, so I’ve been scared to try, but your video is informative! I have way too many Macintosh, so I’m gonna have to use them, rather than Granny Smith..wish me luck!

Salamat! My sister and I bought some apple pie jam at the farmers market. It was really good, and she ate a lot it straight out of the jar! We only had one, and we moved. So we couldnt find any at stores at all. So Salamat! You’re literally my savior. 😭🙏🏾
You are very welcome! Glad to help. 🙂
Hello,
Thank you.
;)
🙂👍
Wow, this looks amazing. I wonder if i could make it with monk fruit instead of sugar?
Thank you. I don't know, I always make it this way.
That looks really good but makes a lot for me. I'm into very small batch food prep and I'll make just enough to last a week or ten days in the fridge. Granny Smith apples always remind me of my sweet and tart cranberry, orange and apple Thanksgiving relish. No onions or nuts in it so it's a gelatinized, super chunky jelly only made of three compatible fruit flavors.
Those jars of jam would last probably two years unopened.
Thanks for watching!
🙂👍
That looks great. As one other person commented, who doesn't like apple pie?
One quick question. After you had canned up the mixture, you then submerged it in the water again. Is this just part of the cooking process or is it for another reason?
Yes, the water bath at the end seals the lids for long term shelf life.
👍👍👍💯💯💯merci
🙂👍
So.... this is my first time ever canning anything and I first want to say thank you so much for taking the time to make your video. It was the only one ive seen in my search that wasnt intimidating and made me want to get up and try it.
That said, i did it with your help!
Only, i think i did something wrong because i was only able to get 3 12 oz jars full with 1/2 inch head space.... did i do something wrong? The apples didnt seem to get creamy either like your end video.... they stayed slices just soft. Please help😅
Thank again for your video, the taste is so delicious
Glad to hear of your success canning! The longer you cook the fruit the softer it will become. You can cook it down and blend it to be like apple butter if you like it that way.
Yummy!! Thank you. Would it be safe to use UV treated no bacteria apple cider instead of apple juice?
Apple cider will make it taste different, but it should be safe.
@@KenClick It is sour but delicious
I enjoyed the video. Can I use apple cider instead of juice? Thanks!
Yes you can!
Thanks for the quick reply! I am making this today!
😊
✅
We just made this, curious how long is it good in jar?
These will last well over 5 years as long as they are sealed properly.
Does it have to be tart apples? Could gala or Fuji apples be used?
Use what you have! 🙂
Great jam but I think I am doing something wrong...made it twice watching your video...I'm only able to get 3 pint jars....can you think of what i am doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can provide..also i used 8 cups of Granny Smith apples and the second batch i used 8 1/2 cups of apples
We used 1/2 pint jelly jars, so it looks like more. You are doing it right.
How would you substitute the powdered with liquid pectin? Unfortunately that's all I could find at the store...
From cosmopolitancornbread.com/substitute-pectin/ "A pouch of liquid pectin and a pouch of powdered pectin can not be substituted 1-for-1. 1 pouch liquid = 2 Tb powdered 2 pouches liquid = 4 Tb or 1 pouch (1.75 oz) powdered pectin
A typical pouch of powdered pectin (1.75 oz.) contains 4 tablespoons of powdered pectin. That is why you will often see the liquid come in 2 pouches, and powdered pectin comes with 1 pouch. You’ll need much less of the powdered pectin when switching them out."
Ken can I use water instead of the juice
Thank you
Yes.
When did you add the pectin? And can you use this as pie filling?
It's shown in the video. For pie filling I'd want larger apple slices.
@@KenClick I went back and watched again. I don't know how I missed that!! Thank you!!
I made this tonight. I used apple cider not apple cider vinager. It was so tart. It was delicious. I only got 6 half pints and you got 7. You must of had more apples. I will use plain apple juice next time and not cider. What kind of apple juice do you use?
Please check the ingredients listed in the description box. It calls for 2 cups of apple juice. Any brand of real apple juice will work. Thanks for watching!
@@KenClick I found this same recipie elsewhere that stated either could be used. I sure hope it is safe.
I’m gonna make this and use 1/4 of the added sugar...
Enjoy!
how long does it stay good after opening
I'm not sure. Never had one last long enough to go off.
How many jars did this make? Pints or jelly jars?
I don't remember exactly how many jars it made now. I see 6-7 half-pint jars in the video.
💖👼🏻🌺
🙂👍
Can you make this without pectin?
Sure. It just loses the effects of the pectin.
Can you freeze this recipe?
Sure, you can freeze it or freeze dry it. I've not done it myself, but I'm sure it's possible.
This recipe is in my Ball canning book. They call for 9 cups of sugar😮 9 cups of sugar is insane. The jam is very thick and sticky. I think 2 cups of sugar sounds better😂
✅🙂
Just processed mine with your sugar ratio. Set up beautiful. I'm disappointed that I wasted 7 jars with their 9 cups of sugar. I checked on mine and its like molasses. I make jams frequently and rely on tested and true recipes. I just dont understand the need for 9 cups?! I may write them and ask if its a typo or if they have received negative feedback. Yours is delicious though. Thankyou. I made 8 jars tonight for my family.
Glad to hear it! Thanks so much for commenting! @@julieallison8508
