My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it. - Jak na to + styl
When i saw the concrete slab i thought for sure you found the old septic tank
It seems it's not the end of surprises in this property! ( one day it will be a real treasure!)
crazy right, I sure hope so!
Old buildings that aren't lived in detoriate so fast. I don't like to see that. So glad you are bringing this back to life.
me too, super happy with this place. it is truly amazing
It certainly looked like a grave.⭐️⭐️❤️👋
did right?
Please keep all the shutters!! There is a reason they were installed in the first place. The shutters are beautiful.😊
yeah no definitely going to keep them!
You and your dad work so well together. We see where you get your work ethic!
That man working with him is friends of parents 😃
Toni is right, thanks though!
I wonder if the slab of cement was put in the garden for a bench to rest on it?
Sam love watching you and your dad work. 😅❤
Glad to hear that, however, you know this isn't my dad right ;)
I think you can with all certainty say that you brought this old lady back to life with your own two hands!!! And your dad's!! No modern machinery, just raw energy! So rarely seen but truly admired! And I liked your response recently: that's how I do it! Damn right!!!
glad to hear that you can appreciate it!
You are smart, rig up a hoist to bring cart up hill driveway
Again, so happy when I see the progress you are making. :) Looking forward to your next video. :)
thanks!!
When you started this project, did you imagine it would be this much work? Im so glad you had the guts to do it. I think this home is going to be magnificent once you've restored it..
haha no, and what I think now will probably change again the more I learn and do. but it's all about learning and having fun, so im here for the ride. thank you so much!
Ciao Sam. Je ne connaissais pas les volets coulissants, pratique lorsqu’il y a un vent très fort. J’aime bien aussi les volets intérieurs. C’est encore beaucoup de travail. Belle journée et bon courage avec votre papa. ❤️👩🌾
The old lead system looks really well done, I've seen timber plugs inside before but that would rot quickly outside, great seeing how they used what they had. It's unusual for internal and external shutters used, it must feel like midnight with both closed.👍
sure does!
Hi Sandra from Australia I came across your new channel by chance I can’t wait to see what you guys do with the Villa it’s going to be an amazing adventure for you both.
Can’t wait looks like I have a bit of a catch up to do.
Hi Sandra, welcome! glad to have you here, thank you so much!
Another Aussie! Finally!!!
Is looking good!!! You mom helps a lot! Say thanks for
Me ❤we love our kids and we used to help happily
Was weer leuk om je in actie te zien
glad to hear that!
Can't wait to see them all fixed and put back they will be beautiful
thanks, I sure hope so too
Safe Travels to your family friends!
thanks!
Suggestion.... You might investigate having the doors dipped to remove the paint...its amazing....if you can locate a shop near you. :). Rooms vastly improved by removing those shutters!!!c great work
I think someone suggested it before, that's the product that chemically removes the paint right?
It's great to see friends coming to help when they can, apart from being there alone I'm sure that all the extra hands are appreciated. 👍
definitely! it really is different from seeing friends and family normally though, way more special.
LEGENDAS EM PORTUGUÊS 🙏 🙏
Recommendation for all the wood to get stript, use a sandblaster with walnut or soda grid, more time efficient 😊
interesting, will have to create a room where we can do that though. thanks!
@@Villa_Oliva perhaps one of the out building rooms can be a wood stripping area. Would be quicker and easier for all the shutters and doors. Plus keeps the mess out of the house!
So ironic, I’m finishing up painting my nephew’s home, which also has shutters. Now he wants landscape design around his hard scape (driveway & sidewalks). God help me…😂. You’ll forgive my hesitancy to come help you… maybe someday. ❤
hahaha, it'll be fun! haha no worries ;)
I absolutely LOVE that old shutter system.
you and me both!
@@Villa_Oliva ... my fav is the inside shutter that folds into arch wall of the window.
Excellent workmanship👍🤩
thanks!
✨🌞✨
Could that slab of concrete that was reinforced have been the base for something like a statue?
interesting, could be yeah
maybe for a small stone bench.
Perhaps I have a suspicious mind, but.... I couldn't help wondering WHY someone went to all that time and effort to make that reinforced concrete area. I am surprised that you didn't find any bones underneath!!! :o)
I know, I have been thinking the same
Un altro passo per l’orto più’ bello del vicinati. Ciao
hahah thank you 😇
I foresee a lot of scraping and sanding in someone's future. Oh my! Have you started to think you should have started with a slightly smaller house? Maybe one floor less? Lol. It's a beautiful house. I hope there isn't a coffin below that concrete! Strange place to pour a slab of concrete isn't it.
hahah yeah me too, people are welcome to come over and help sanding ;). haha we're starting with one floor and working our way up (and down). it really is, still no idea what it was
Those exterior shutters were quite ingenious. A great idea. But I can't figure how they don't let moisture, cold air, etc. into the wall cavity. So is there an inner wall that keeps that from happening?
there is actually yes, good thinking.
your wife is a hard worker I wonder how many years it will take to restore. Will you burn all the trees and rubbish you have in the garden it seems a quicker way
what could you find in, around and under such old houses - possibly graves, old war tools, weapons from various wars and evidence of La Resistenza in World War II
It’s a bourgeois kind of prosperity. I won’t say there might not be old weapons up in the attic or hidden in the floors, but I don’t think Resistance lived there. I suspect this place might have been abandoned for 60-70 years.
hopefully one day I will find something interesting, well..more interesting things
Don't you have a shop vacuum? A lot faster than sweeping all the time!
I would have kept the cement slab. Good place to clean tools and put a chair/stuff keeping out of the garden when wet.
good idea, just thought it wasn't the right place for that.
Ciao...
..........Deinen Helfern wünsche ich im Nachhinein noch gute Heimreise.
When you see the workmanship of years ago it really does put were builds of today to shame. The shutters on your home are gorgeous well not at the moment but I am sure they will be again eventually
definitely, glad to be experiencing it
Will you keep the rail system for the shutters or install something modern?
I wil try to keep the original system, just renew it where needed
Legendas em português 🙏
You seem to be so close the the road I think you need fencing even iron fencing! How much did you pay for the villa and where is it?
we are in Piemonte and yes ideally we'd be further away, but this is what it is right. we are going to discuss financials in a different video, thanks for the interest though!
ik vind de villa veel verzorgder er uitzien zonder die roestige schuuters buiten en je ziet zo de ruimtes oplichten
can imagine, I would like to keep them however, but when they function properly they will not block the light
Do your visitors stay in the villa with you..
most of the time, they do yes. we do have some space for guests ;)
Where is your girlfriend
