I like your matter-of-fact and positive way of sharing your story! I've been watching hysterectomy videos, and I can't sit through the weepy ones. I hope your recovery went well! I cracked up at around the 14:00 part when you said, "Ovaries" and you made two "O's" with your hands, and when you said you asked your doctor for marijuana! You went through some hefty stuff - thanks for sharing all of it.

I went from a spinal MRI on March 28 to a TAH-BSO with omentectomy six weeks later. Ya, the MRI didn't catch what I expected, but it caught a mass in my pelvic region. First of all, I was born with genetic version of PCOS. I had my first barely there period when I was 16. You could count on one hand how many periods I had in my 50 years of life.
Three days after the MRI I saw my family doctor. Five days later I had a detailed ultrasound that stated a 12cm x 8cm x 7cm bilobed mass on my girl parts. Not kidding, but within three hours my doctor called back and said I need to see a gyno and FAST! I went in two days after the ultrasound and requested a female gyno. Three weeks later I got the call for an appointment with our cancer hospital to see a gyno oncologist. Uhm, ya, freaking out time--Cancer?
The gyno oncologist, the director and best doc they have, along with the senior resident agreed all my girl parts had to come out along with the mass. They as hope as the mass appeared benign. Once pointed out I told them that bump they felt was there for many years and I noticed it after dramatic weight loss (100lbs). I said I knew it was there for at least five years. They were smiling and that gave them more hope. The appointment date was April 29.
I was told surgery would be in two weeks. My head was spinning.....I got the call and May 11th was the day. I'd have a belly button to pubic bone incision and everything would be gone! I was told two days post OP in hospital stay. I stayed one full day.
Pain meds help and I'm just sitting back resting and recovering. It's been a full week and it still hurts. Some staples came out today. It was a long 8" incision so he left a few a few days longer.
I'm happy it's done because I've wanted it out since my 30s..
    FREEDOM! FREEDOM!

Have you been tested for a bleeding disorder? If you have a bleeding disorder, they can give you meds before surgery to help with clotting. Many people have undiagnosed bleeding disorders that only come to light when they bleed more than usual during a surgical procedure, especially mild disorders as you can go through life with no issues until you have surgery for the first time. Testing needs to be done by a hematologist specializing in bleeding disorders as your average bloodwork won’t cut it. This is often done through your state or provincial hemophilia association (they deal with all bleeding disorders, not just hemophilia).

  • @McDonnellFamilyAdventures

Thank you for sharing this. I suffered with horrible periods my whole life too just getting worse and worse as the months go by. I have fibroids, severe bleeding and severe cramping and I'm not sure but I feel like this has contributed to the secondary infertility I have been dealing with. I'm 35 now and I keep putting off making the appointment because I'm scared to hear those words.

me and a friend of my moms are on the same page. she went through this surgery years ago and now i will have to have it. weird story- it started with indigestion up the yin yan. i thought it was my questionable food choices. i went to gastrologist and they said it wasnt a problem. later i was diagnosed with a small kidney which unbeknownst to me, was caused by a mass on my ovaries and was taking them over. now i have to have a hystorectomy. which i;m happy about considering i will no longer have that ''monthly little visitor'' at my door anymore

Sitting here watching this waiting to head to the hospital for my hysterectomy this morning, 39 years old, 1 daughter (13) and so over the recent super long period (3 months) the clotting, the cramping even after my period is over, bleeding through onto my clothes etc etc. hoping everything goes well for me I’m so tired of it. Tried everything except an ablation, I decided to skip it and just go with the hysterectomy, I don’t want to bleed anymore I’m done

  • @wggerz

Thank you so very much! I am 31 with 4 kids. I have been told forever that I needed a complete hysterectomy. I tried d&c's, tubal, ablation, and am now out of options. I have adenomyosis as well. Plus a retroverted cervix and a lot of scar tissue. The ablation failed last year and I've had several opinions hoping for something different. The idea terrified me. I'm also scared because I don't know any other young person who has had one in the last like 10 years. I've also had 2 emergency c-sections so I know that pain. I also have complications with everything. Lol. I do feel a ton better though. I go in Monday to talk to my obgyn again.
