    I've sometimes heard the comment that "Greek philosophy ended with the presocratics". The more I learn about them the more I agree.
    And Heraklitus has to be one of my favorites in any case. Well ahead of his time, no doubt.

    To be honest, I am more interested in the practical aspects of ancient cultures. But these slivers of philospohy truly help contextualise those practical aspects and make them easier to understand and commit to memory.
    For example, the fact that some Greek thinkers criticised the antropomorphisation of the gods never occured to me. It seems obvious in hindsight that some would, but I just never thought about it.
