- Hey guys, it's been a while since I've made one of these videos! I will be building a Bioactive enclosure with Mourning Geckos in mind. We are raffling off this enclosure here at our Point of Sale ONLY. If you are local, come check out our store location and purchase some tickets to enter to win this beautiful enclosure. The drawing will happen on March 3rd (3.3.23) at 3:00pm CST. Fun fact about these geckos, they are parthenogenetic. That means majority of them are females and can completely reproduce by themselves without fertilization.

First? Excited to see this, needed some Inspiration for my future mounting gecko tank :)
Happy to hear it was helpful! Thanks for the support!
I just wanted to add they can totally crawl between those sliders and out the vent holes. Either that or mine pulled a jurassic park and opened the slider itself lol. They are also easy to bump open accidentally anyway so I highly suggest plugging up those ventilation holes with paper towel, mesh or silicone. Great vid, would be cool to see a mourning gecko kit on your site in the future!
Makes me said to think how many micro geckos have been lost from people not knowing this. I try to tell people at every opportunity.
They really are escape artists. It's great to take every extra precaution to ensure they cant find a way out.
I agree, it's really easy for them to get out so its important to try and do what we can to prevent it.
Not gonna lie I sealed all of my gaps with electrical tape 🥴
@@giselemichaels4391 I've considered this but as I'm keeping day geckos I don't want to risk them getting stuck to any tape which might come unpeeled.
Super helpful for my future terrarium!,
You and Dr Plants are probably just the best.
Thanks! 👍🏻

Love the catch! Excellent pride snicker! Too funny!
Great video, minus the music. It was kind of hard to hear you at times. I'm heading to a reptile expo tomorrow so you gave me a great list of things to grab!
Thank you for letting us know about the audio this way we can ensure it doesn't happen in the next video. But overall, I am glad the video was helpful!
Great video. All of it
Can't wait for the restock! I've wanted Mourning Geckos for a while now. Going to a reptile expo in March so hopefully I can get the kit before then
There is a way to get signed up for notifications on our website to ensure you get an email once we restock them!
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Yup, already signed up 😄
Perfect timing on this video my mourning gecko is coming Tuesday this will give me so inspiration on how to setup her cage thank you love your videos
You should probably have it set up already 🫠
@@HUNTENMASTA1337 I do for most part I'm just trying to figure how I want to decorate it the rest of the way trust me I've been dealing with geckos for past 20 years
I am so glad it was helpful!
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter it was very helpful was running out of ideas on what kind of plants to use in their cage thank you again
Mr.Biodude, I want to thank you for all your videos and information that really helps us out. I’ve learned a ton over time from your videos. I’m getting into breeding dart frogs, and mourning geckos go hand in hand with them, this video helped me a lot. Thank you again sir! 😊
I noticed the cool stickers at the bottom corners of your enclosures that explain the specimen that you have housed. Where can I find those ?? Great idea💡
I think they custom made the ones that they had or had them personally made, although you can find some very nicely designed and custom labels at Cloud Forest Design, personally I just printed out their labels with my printer and self laminated them, so i basically got them for free, although you could buy them for the site I could be wrong but from when I last checked they were reasonably priced.
@@LegendCreations_MC ok, thank you
My marketing specialist creates them for our showroom. I believe there are people online who create customs for people who are interested.
Thank you for providing the name to the website. I wasn't exactly sure which website, but I knew there was someone who did it.
Awesome
Thank you
So many wonderful ideas! Bravo!
Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this for a while now. Heck yeah!
I hope you enjoyed it!
Thank u Josh that was a great video.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your support!
I don't trust keeping mine in those tanks. I heard bad stories about them getting squished in the doors, or just flat out escaping. I keep mine in large critter keepers. I keep 2 per tank. I started with 2, and now I have 11 + 7 eggs. The way I keep them I know when each hatches and where they are at all times so I don't lose any lol
Indeed. Mourning Geckos are known to be escape artists and have a knack for finding their way into small crevices.
How many days until the monkey pod is full of mold... 4.
Hi! Thanks for sharing. Just wanna know the rationale behind adding a piece of mesh.
I'm always wondering if those tiny substrate particles, like soil, can eventually seep through the pores of the mesh or not? It seems like the mesh is of no much use.
Depending on the drainage layer you are using will dictate if the screen is necessary. Using our original Hydrogrow, the product creates a really compact separation on its own without the screen so its not common for the substrate to go through it. When utilizing our V2, the screen is recommended because the balls are much bigger creating an open space for the substrate to easily seep through.
That is way to many light fixtures on one tank.
Have you ever used wild moss ?
Which one of your advanced bioactive kits do you recommend getting for mourning geckos. I was looking on your website and didn’t know which one to pick and if it makes a difference.
We recommend our Terra Fauna substrate for Mourning Geckos. You can choose a kit that utilizes the same substrate and includes climbing decor. The crested gecko kit would be a good accommodation to supply the needs of your gecko.
I see a lot of mixed information on whether or not you can leave the eggs to hatch inside the enclosure or not. Some say the adults will eat the hatchlings
We typically leave the eggs inside the Bioactive enclosure and allow them to hatch naturally. There is potential they will get eaten depending on your population size, but you can take them out if that is your route of desired action.
just had a few questions if i do go with these geckos. i’m not sure if you can keep 1 by itself or not bc everywhere i’ve checked says different things. if not how many geckos can stay in a ten gal bc there’s gonna be so many children. what else can you do with the eggs? like where would i sell the babies and such.
It is recommended to keep them in groups due to being a communal species. But they will reproduce like crazy so starting with 2 will provide more than enough to create a group overtime. Since our enclosures are set up Bio active, the eggs they create just hatch within the enclosure as if they would naturally in the wild.
Can I get a cage done for me for mourning gecko ❤😊
Do you need lights
What kind of mister do you use
In the video, we use a "Scotts multi-use sprayer"
Dows your kit come with the tank?
The tank is not included within the kits, just the components that go inside to begin your Bioactive journey.
Is it possible to turn this size into a paludarium? I have this size and I want to do a waterfall for small frogs.
I would personally recommend utilizing a little larger of an enclosure just to ensure your humidity levels aren't too high and there is an area where the temperatures are cooler for them.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter thank you for the reply! I will be ordering as soon as your isopods are available again.
how many lbs of the barklogs? does all of it come with the kit?
The size of your enclosure will determine how much product will be included within the kit.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter for the 12x12x18 kit
You sound like hiccup from httyd😅
Very cool, I'll take it,
Could i keep darts and mourning geckos in this enclosure together?
Yes you can! Make sure you provide enough space for all inhabitants.
Was just wonder whether it’s possible to keep them with adult giant train millipedes?
It is generally not recommended to cohab them together, these two species have different habitat preferences and requirements. There is a risk that the geckos could harass or disturb the millipedes, potentially causing stress or injury. It would be best to house them within their own individual space.
Do you sell this kit online?
When will you start shipping internationally?
We are working on receiving the proper permits that allow us to do so. However, we do have a distributor in Canada (ReptilesRUs.ca)
I found a gecko with broken back legs and no tail and I tryed to save him but he bit me so now his name is cranky or cranky basterd
Monstera*
Do they need UVB? Or is it a choice?
We recommend providing UVB for all species. With these guys, we utilize a 2.4% bulb. If you are not choosing to use UVB it is important you supplement it with vitamins and calcium INCLUDING d3.
It's never a choice 😂
Is mold a concern?
Depending on the type of mold you are seeing will dictate whether it is a concern. If you would like to get clarification on the different types, send my customer care team an email with images and they would be happy to inform you. customercare@thebiodude.com
That'd a philodendron and not a monstera?
This was put together incredibly fast. Not a fan. It felt and looks half assed.
