Matthias Bider So you're trying to say that all of us brits are rich and they don't need acting roles? no. It's not about the money and our market and film industry here is very small, also when an actor goes for an audition, they audition with an American accent, they are judged on their performance, not where they're from. Americans aren't THAT interested in hearing our accents anyway and that's just facts.

For those that did not get the trailer.
This movie is about The 1967 Detroit riot, also known as the 12th Street riot, was a violent public disorder that turned into a civil disturbance in Detroit, Michigan. It began in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 23, 1967. The precipitating event was a police raid of an unlicensed, after-hours bar then known as a blind pig, just north of the corner of 12th Street (today Rosa Parks Boulevard) and Clairmount Avenue on the city's Near West Side. Police confrontations with patrons and observers on the street evolved into one of the deadliest and most destructive riots in the history of the United States, lasting five days and surpassing the violence and property destruction of Detroit's 1943 race riot.
Tanks and machine guns were used in the effort to keep the peace. Film footage and photos that were viewed internationally showed a city on fire, with tanks and combat troops in firefights in the streets.
43 people died 1967 Detroit riot: 33 were black and 10 were white. 24 of the black victims were shot by police officers and National Guardsmen; 6 were shot by store owners or security guards; 1 was killed after stepping on a downed power line, and 2 were killed by asphyxiation from a building fire. Among the whites that died were 1 Detroit police officer, 2 Detroit firefighters, and 1 Michigan Army National Guardsman. The police officer was shot by another officer while struggling with a group of looters; one firefighter died after stepping on a downed power line while attempting to extinguish a fire started by looters; the second firefighter was shot by a black male while organizing fire units at Mack and St. Jean streets; and the guardsman was shot in crossfire between the National Guard and looters.
Of the white civilians killed, 1 was shot as she and her husband fled a group of black males beating a white man; 1 was shot by National Guardsmen; 1 was shot while in her hotel room by a civilian sniper; and 1 was beaten to death by a black male after confronting looters in his store.
2,509 stores were looted or burned, 388 families rendered homeless or displaced and 412 buildings burned or damaged enough to be demolished. Dollar losses from property damage ranged from $40 million to $45 million.
Hope that this helps with people questions about this movie.

Now a days people get spoiled by trailers by having the whole movie played in the trailer. This is just to get people curious and it's also just the first trailer. With the controversy that is sure to surround the subject matter, and the publicity it will get, we will have more than just this trailer.

James Burgess History about racism and segregation in the North. It was uglier back then. Ever since kindergardenn I have learned so much about MLK, Malcolm X, Shirley Chisholm, Mary McCloud Bethune, and countless others who fought so hard and dillegently to end this ravish beast of a cancer called racism and promote Civil Rights. To them, it was more about humanity coming together, despite tyranny. It is still taking place to this day but nothing like how it was in vintage times. Sin is what is making this country and world go completely out of proportion/control. Both needs Jesus Christ in order to cleanse all unrighteousness.

It is very interesting to see Bigelow move away from the sort of films that earned her Oscar nods in the past. While still in the same wheelhouse as Zero Dark Thirty, and even The Hurt Locker to an extent, it's very interesting to see that she's decided to jump into a topic that is much more sensitive, and in many cases far more vital, than her war oriented films.
I'm hoping that this film turns out to be really well done. As a Canadian, I had never heard of these Detroit Riots before, and I'm thinking I've got another area of history I need to take some time to research.
Also, I'm really glad to see John Boyega in films like this and Imperial Dreams. He's a really talented actor who deserves a chance to get his star up there as one of the greats.

He is a local and the feds are there to patrol the streets. no body wants them there. John Boyega's character doesnt want them there but he still needs to work with them. So he tries his best to work with them and provide them with services but he doesnt want to do that. so when the guy ask for "sugar" he gets upset and tells him not to push it. My bet is that the feds are treating him like shit.
like you have a shit boss and tells you to do shit but still treats you like shit or treats you like you are always fucking shit up. so you do something nice and then they want more from you, your response would be "dont push it"

Studied this case in my crim250w course I'm excited to see this tragedy portrayed on the big screen. So few people actually know about this incident. I wouldn't know about this incident if my professor did not require me to dissect the case and write a paper on it years ago in undergrad... It was truly sad and appalling! It's not just about race but police corruption, the police blue wall that has been ever so present.. I'm geeked to see how accurate or true to the actual case this movie is. Plus I love Algee! Will definitely be in attendance with my fiancé, mom, dad and brothers to see this..
AND TO ALL THE NEGATIVITY!! Seriously get over yourself it's funny it's how oppression or negativity against blacks is supposed to be forgotten.. like slavery, Jim Crow laws, lynchings, emit till, civil rights movement, Detroit riot, Rodney king trial, Trayvon martin, Tamir Rice, Sandra bland and so many more.... but the holocaust 9/11 etc is never forget.. my parents are retired military younger n older brothers active duty military I grieve for 9/11. I'm not Jewish but I recognize the atrocities of the holocaust, I recognize the oppression that many of the first Irish and Italian immigrants were subject to in America . I'm black and I recognized the many obstacles or wrongs black have been subject to in South Africa in America and many other places in the world .. so why isn't it ok for me to be a lover of history of all! Why must black oppression n atrocities be forgotten and swept under the rug.. That's societies problem we rather forget than address our issues or differences. This isn't just a movie for Black people; it's a movie for everyone! This case isn't just about white or police shaming. It sheds light on history! It puts a spot light on the bad ones. There are good and bad people in all races and genders! One of my closest friends is white and I'm obsessed with black history good and bad. The two can co-exist without me blaming her for things she didn't do or that her ancestors may have done to my ancestors.. She n I have been friends for years since kids. Our friendship endured because although we don't always agree in particularly when it comes to race and various privileges my black skin gives or takes away from me-- we at least attempt to understand our differences. I don't expect her to agree with what she has never been subject too but as my friend to know that my concerns are legit and not sensationalized or false. I don't understand everything about her Czech culture but as a friend I make it a point to learn and listen!
Maybe this movie will help someone to start a dialogue to move forward vs denying one another a platform to speak because we disregard and don't understand each other's background or history. If it reaches one person and helps them understand then wonderful! Success! History is the foundation of the present! All history black white asian Hispanic etc should be learned in my opinion.. maybe it would help us all be a little more tolerable of one another.. And understand why we are the way we are today which is horribly divided sadly!

I graduated high school in 1967... Born in Pontiac, MI, and my mother was a nurse at Pontiac General Hospital. I served in the 101st Airborne and met guys sent to Detroit. My DOD boss of 1971 was in charge of Log services at the Michigan state fair grounds. This whole movie seems to be based on one man's experience. There are many different sides and experiences of different people, from different places, during the Detroit riots. It destroyed a city and Detroit never recovered.

@Nathan Nuk3 Pepsi did a commercial not to long ago. Maybe a week or two ago. The commercial involved protesters. The commercial did not go over well with a lot of people. Near the end of the commercial there is a scene that looks like there might be a stand off with police, but someone hands a police officer a Pepsi and this seems to defuse the tense situation. Some people think it kind trivialize some actually protests that have happening and there causes. It aired one day, and then Pepsi pulled the commercial after the large amounts of complaints they received.
