Arsenal were such a better team than Barca too in 2006. Lehmann getting sent off sucks and they still should have won it but for 2 absolute blunders by Almunia.
But English teams only won the Champions League twice in that 5 year period 💀 they’ve won it 3 times in the last 5 years. We’re currently witnessing peak dominance from English teams in Europe (other than the 1970s and 80s)
@@Dan-tr5kw true but the big 4 back then would consistently make it into the semi final: 2007 - Chelsea, man united, Liverpool 2008 - Chelsea, man united, Liverpool 2009 - Chelsea, man united, arsenal English teams may have dominated the champions league for the past 5 years but not one time out of those 5 years did we ever see 3 English teams in the semi final
07/08 arsenal was different level. Peak wengerball for me. Playing football like a futsal, Top of EPL until March, before eduardo broken legs. Eliminated former champions Milan 0-2 convicingly, only got robbed by Babel and Liverpool. And yes that was a penalty for Hleb. What the hell.
No Arsenal transfer window, from 07-13, was ever complete until Wenger uttered the following “when we get Diaby back healthy it will be like a new signing”. Aka building the Emirates Stadium cost too much, so unless we buy young players (Nasri, Rosicky, Ramsey, Walcott) or undervalued vets (Eduardo, Santi, Arteta, Nacho) on the cheap, a fully fit Diaby is the best I can offer. If only Stan Kroenke & the other owners cared enough back then, maybe Arsene would have got 1 more league title or his coveted UCL trophy before leaving in 2018.
The job Wenger did from 07-13 is the most underrated in history. Competing for all titles, just falling short (and in a lot of cases bad refereeing). Imagine how well he could have done with a budget like current managers
I remember it well. From about 2005-10, there would be the epic do or die encounters between the english clubs in the knock out rounds. As a Liverpool fan, i loved it. Whether we won or lost, those battles against Chelsea especially were something special.

That 07/08 Arsenal team was special imo if that Eduardo leg break hadn't of happened we would of won the league and POSSIBLY gone on to meet United in the final and Wenger could of had his redemption arc... yeah I know should could woulda but God that team had unreal potential

I think if Ferguson could have been backed like Jose at Chelsea he could have won all the Finals he lost in that Era. Man UTD 2011 Squad was weak and if you look at their performances in Europe after that you won't be surprised, in 2013 against Real Madrid they gave their all and a little bit of World Class players like a Lahm or Xabi Alonso they would have beat Jose's Madrid.
they are still dominating tho, EPL clubs in the last 5 UCL seasons : - 4 different teams in the finals - 3 different champions teams - 2 times all england finals - Liverpool had 3 finals appearances and Man City had 2 appearances
