I am also a wedding photographer and use R3 + 28-70 lens through the whole wedding day. Is it heavy? Yes. Can I manage it? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! It's the best possible combo there is for weddings.
That's not even a little bit true.
not at all heavy as my old D4s was.. I love my new R3
Thanks for sharing, I appreciate your insight, I will definitely will get my canon R3
Hi Jamil... some interesting thoughts...
I love my my R3.... the colour is superb... autofocus to die for ... and it will shoot anything you point it at in almost all light conditions.
Its my one and only precious !!! 😄
Thanks for the video
👍
For video it's awesome. Great video man.
just found your channel and I enjoyed this video. As someone that bought a Canon R3 a few months ago as my only camera after selling my previous gear, allow me to provide a counterpoint.
While I do wish for more resolution sometimes, there is something to be said for the extremely good low light performance you can get from this sensor which you don't get with something like the R5. In addition, the autofocus performance on this camera is ridiculously fast and performs even in low light situations. This can be good for things like kids birthday parties or events where there's poor lighting. So in these scenarios, while it would be nice to have more resolution, I'll absolutely take cleaner images with snappier autofocus every time. Now admittedly for some of the action and wildlife stuff I do the 30 frames per second is awesome as heck, but that's not really relevant for most people.
Another point you didn't mention is the battery life. For an event photographer like a wedding photographer, they will almost always be using the battery grip so they can have two batteries. But the one battery in the R3 has a ridiculously long life, and can last for almost a full event worth of shooting in most scenarios. That's also a nice benefit. Plus when you put the battery grip on the R5 as an example, the R3 actually weighs less than the R5 in that scenario, by quite a margin.
As to your final point of Street photography, no I don't. But if I did, I would throw a 16 mm or 50 mm Prime on there. The camera really doesn't look very big in the hand with a small lens mounted on it. So it would be quite unobtrusive.
I appreciate this perspective!! Especially from someone who actually has the camera. How do you deal with the weight? Also, what lens are you running with? And also, also, do you do any street photography?
@A Boy Named Jamil I moved from a 5D Mark III to the R3, and the weight difference is almost negligible in the hand. Again, the 5D with the grip even with just one battery was heavier than the R3.
I use everything from the typical 70 to 200 2.8 EF version with adapter, up to a 500 mm F4 for handheld wildlife shots. That last combo can get very heavy at about 12 lb, but the crazy autofocus combined with the extremely clean High ISO performance is completely unbeatable.
The other big thing is the better control layout on the R3 that's afforded by the larger back size. I think the weight seems like a lot when you really overthink it, but when it's in your hands compared to a previous non mirrorless body the weight difference is very little. Now admittedly if I wanted to use an R5 or R6 without a grip the difference would be a little more noticeable, but even in those cases I would stick with the R3 for the reasons I mentioned above, unless I was in a situation where the resolution made that much of a difference. The important thing to keep in mind is that wedding photographers using digital cameras have been using 24 megapixels and less for many years before the high resolution bodies came out, and their clients were quite happy with the output.
On the off chance that I need to make an extremely large print where one of the sides is at least 24 in or bigger, a simple pass through topaz photo AI will allow me to upscale it and maintain a very high level of detail as long as the original shot was sharp. I think a lot of people try to use that tool to recover low quality shots, but it can really sing if you give it a high quality Source image.
I guess everyone is willing to compromise something for what they have. Whether that's excessive weight or low megapixel count. To each their own, right? For my use cases I maintain that the R3 simply just isn't practical as a single camera option. Thanks for the perspective though. ✌🏾✌🏾
@@falxonPSNThanks for sharing. Also cohabiting with a 5DmkIV.
Hello, eos R3 - raw video slog 3, I cannot get a clear image at 800 and 1600 ISO. Do you think this is normal?
My exposure is correct, I tried at least 3 different programs. As a result, I cannot get rid of the noise.
Is there a raw workflow you can recommend?
Thanks
Recently got back to photography and I'm currently running this combo (R3 + 2870). It's definitely a lot to hold and the weight is something one should consider before getting one!
I appreciate this comment. Thank you for watching. ✌🏾
I love my R3 especially for sports and event photography. I use a tripod for my 100-500mm and 75 - 200mm lenses since it does get heavy after a while. Yeah, it’s not for everyone who does long hours of shooting but it’s a beast that’s worth the money.
Jamil, I have to give you your props, you always, and I mean always, find a way to approach things from a fresh perspective.
My favorite Sony lens when, I'm working at a large event with my crew is the Sony 135mm f1.8gm with the A9, it is a sniper and in some cases, I prefer it to the 70-200mm gm, depending on use case and what I can get away with.
You could have just said how great the camera was coming from a Sony perspective and you did, but you applied your knowledge and experience and your use case to make this about what the ultimate one camera means to you and why. Very well done sir, you stood out, very well done indeed!!!
Appreciate you bro.
Hello! Did you have any overheating issues ever recording in 4k 120p or 6k 60 raw?
I only rented it for a short time. I don't know that my use case is sufficient enough to have an educated enough opinion.
Actually just bought the R5. Went from an RP to the R3. Black Friday picked up a refurbished R. Probably would’ve gone for a second R3 if it had high megapixels. Considered the Sony a7iv as my second body for weddings and walk around.
I never even considered a vertical grip. Cool idea. Was historically more more of a photography I think, hah.
As someone who has shot wildlife with DSLR pro bodies for the last couple of decades, the lighter weight and relatively compact size of the R3, while maintaining the ergonomics and large battery of bodies like the 1DX is one of the selling points. It's the lightest and most compact camera that offers this other than the Olympus E-M1X, and night and day vs even the Z9, while still maintaining that Comfort with large lenses. There are a lot of things I appreciate about Sony, but ergonomics are not among them.
7:02 it definitely looks like a monster. Then on the flip side you got guys like Peter McKinnon walking around vlogging with one of those and like, a 16-35. Wild to me.
It's crazy. I could never.
as a long time 1 series user, it feels very nice and is very usable, even as a walk around camera. And, I'd very much rather an integrated grip that doesn't compromise weather sealing etc. I get what Sony did with the A1 etc, but it isn't my cuppa tea.
Great video.
Thanks!
New firmware added 195fps
Good points. If i had the r3, i would have at least one other body.
Great point it’s one camera for either a sports or wildlife photographer!
it can do any genre.
@@davepastern so can any camera but the R3 is better suited for sports and wildlife
@@hankdinardo4308 what, 24mp isn't good enough for portraits or landscapes? Hell, it was just perfectly fine 5 yearse ago and "more than enough" back then...megapixels are just a pissing contest. You can make perfectly fine images and prints from a 24mp camera. The R3 will print perfectly fine up to A2. If you regulary crop your image, then yeah sure, 24mp and cropping might be a problem with larger prints and limit your print size. But only if you are cropping. And then, if you're regularly cropping, my argument is gonna be that you need to get off your ass more and use your feet to get closer. Like photrographers use to do before zooms were invented. Laziness does not make a good photographer.
@@davepastern thank you, thank you. This is nonsense. People talking about 24 megapixels like it’s junk. They obviously didn’t shoot film or early digital cameras. The owner of this channel needs to do some exercises. Everything is heavy. His facts are all confusing.
@@raymondwright7757 it's a sign of the modern CZcamsr mate. Latest and greatest pissing contest attracts more viewers for more $$$$ from channel. It's how it works.
16:08 James Popsys is great. I’m fairly certain if I was from the UK we would be best, awkward friends haha.
I started to buy the R3 for the low light capabilities, but I went with the R5 for the Megapixels instead. I love the R5 and 28-70 combo. People do give me that look "you mean business my boy" then again ultimately you become use to it.
That lens is ALL ABOUT THE BUSINESS!!! IT LOVE IT!!! Did you see my video about the best lenses I used??? It was high on the list! Thanks for watching. ✌🏾
@@aboynamedjamil You're welcome. I'll take a look.
Agreed, that lens IS all about the business. Shooting indoor sports is why I'm lusting over the R3. Not just for the AF, but the stretched ISO performance. When some kid works that hard to master their sport I want to be able to show them that grin or that steel-jawed grimace when they connect with that ball. The beauty of their sport is written on their face and I'm wanting a machine that can reach into that cleanly from the stands. To me that is worth looking silly, but I definitely hear you about carrying a big obnoxious piece of hardware around. A little scary to be down to 24mpx, but based on examples I'm seeing I think I can still cut out a meaningful final shot from that field. Truth be told, I probably will be carrying one of my normal, lead-up-to-this cameras for casual use if I get the R3, but if you're doing sports shooting I'm beginning to learn that you have to commit. Thanks very much for the review.
✌️
1:59 exposure nailed, color nice…bokeh on point…he’s using the fiddy…
Lol. Yes sir!
This is smaller and lighter than the 1DX series. They're literally tanks
Bro, you should be able to carry around this camera with no problem with the size of your shoulders that you have and using a rapid strap it shouldn’t be no problem for you at all to take that camera around all day. I understand your other situation about street shooting but for as a weight problem it shouldn’t be no problem for you at all.
12:26 man, going from that 24mp that my a7iii and a7C had to 33 on my a7iv’s made a wild difference for cropping and it was only 9mp.

Just a few things - this intrusiveness is just in your mind. Secondly, you cannot get 30 FPS in all situations (low battery and many older lenses will NOT give you the full 30 FPS either). I just tested my mark 1 500mm f4 IS L and could only average around 20-21 FPS consistently (full battery charge, full RAW size selected). Also, since you seem to be a Sony user, why would you even consider the R3 when the A1 is a much better option all around? Smaller, lighter, more megapixel, slightly better AF performance by all accounts.
Stop complaining! This a professional medium weight camera. You want to run around with an iPhone 📱 camera? Is that light enough? Mehn I get so confused when people whine about size. And these are huge, giant people 😅… get a camera that befits your size 😊😊
Not one person complained? What are you even talking about?
The Sony is very sharp around the edges very uncomfortable for long shoots. I think they were made to be rigged up since they are mainly video first cameras.
You're wrong.
2K channel, buys a R3 yeah right...next.
Bro what are you talking about? What does subs have to do with what I buy?
The tamron 35-150 crushes the canon lens.
It does not.
@@aboynamedjamil having used both, yes...yes it does
