    IOLANDA - SCREAM ( translation)
    I heard, I felt
    The body to carry
    We continue like this
    One and the other
    One and the other
    One and the other
    I'm free falling
Let me know when you get there
    I surrender here
    Little by little
Long steps stuck in the match
I want to let go of what left me hurt
I ask the mother star to make the day
    Born again
I transformed every verse of me
    And give in to courage
    That still burns
    It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
    It still burns
    It still burns
Today I want to prove myself
That I can be whatever I want
Bring together those who love me at a table
Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer
    They don't fool me! (No!)
    I'm every size
I still remember when I was little
    And dreamed first
Long steps stuck in the match
Today I let go of what left me hurt
And I ask the mother star to make the day
    Born again
I transformed every verse of me
    And give in to courage
    That still burns
    It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
    It still burns
    It still burns
I am a flame that still burns
    It still burns
I am a flame that still burns
    It still burns
    Burn
    Burn
    Burn
I transformed every version of myself
    And give in to courage
    That still burns
    It still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns
    It still burns
    It still burns

Great Review (as always) ANALYSIS, "Grito" (Scream) from Iolanda, Portugal choice:
"Grito" (SCREAM), presents a compelling narrative of resilience, transformation, and self-empowerment. The song uses the metaphor of fire to symbolize the undying spirit of the protagonist, emphasizing themes of endurance, healing, and self-realization.
    Themes like:
Vulnerability and Surrender: (sense of awareness and sensitivity, possibly hinting at the anticipation of change or the buildup of emotional energy. Speaks to letting go of control, a leap of faith into the unknown. This surrender isn't about giving up but about embracing the process of transformation).
Liberation: "I want to let go of what left me hurt" is a clear desire to release past pains and burdens. This act of letting go is necessary for healing and moving forward.
Renewal: for instance in asking the "mother star to make the day rise again" symbolizes a plea for rebirth, a fresh start, and the hope that comes with a new day.
Transformation: "I transformed every verse of me" indicates profound personal growth and change. The individual is not the same as before; She has evolved through her experiences.
Persistence: The repeated phrase "It still burns" emphasizes ongoing struggle and resilience. Despite challenges, her spirit and determination remain unquenched.
Self-assertion: "Today I want to prove myself / That I can be whatever I want" reflects a strong sense of self-belief and ambition. She is determined to define her own identity and future.
Forgiveness: "Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer" shows maturity and emotional liberation. Forgiveness is presented as a step towards healing and empowerment.
Resilience: The imagery of being a "flame that still burns" throughout the song symbolizes resilience in the face of adversity. She continues to shine and endure, regardless of past pains and challenges.
Self-empowerment: The journey from vulnerability to strength, from darkness to light, encapsulates the theme of self-empowerment. She actively transforms her pain into power, asserting control over her destiny.
Healing and Growth: The song portrays healing as an active and dynamic process. It's about moving through pain, embracing change, and growing stronger in the process.
Iolanda's 'Grito' (Scream), is a powerful anthem of perseverance, self-discovery, and empowerment. It encourages listeners to embrace their vulnerabilities, let go of the past, and ignite their inner strength to face the future with courage and hope.
    LYRICS
    Iolanda - "Grito" (Scream)
    [Verse 1]
I heard, (I) felt, the body charging
We continued like that, one and another, one and another, one and another
I'm free falling, I'll let you know when I get there
I surrender here, little by little
    [Pre-Chorus]
Long strides, chained in the (race) start
I want to let go of what left me hurt
I ask the mother star to make the day rise again
    [Chorus]
(It still [Ainda] burns [Arde]) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns)
And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns
Hit the light on your chest and opens it
I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns
    [Verse 2]
Today I want to prove myself
That I can be whatever I want (Whatever I want)
Bring together those who love me at a table
Forgive anyone who wanted to see me suffer
They don't fool me (No, no)
    I'm every size (I am)
I still remember when I was little
(I was) the one who dreamed first
    [Pre-Chorus]
Long strides, chained in the (race) start
I want to let go of what left me hurt
And I ask the mother star to make the day rise again
    [Chorus]
(It still burns) I transformed every verse of me (It still burns)
And surrender to the courage that still burns, still burns
Hit the light on your chest and open it
I am a flame that still burns, still burns, still burns
I am a flame that still burns, still burns
I am a flame that still burns, still burns

An excellent song, with several musical influences, that makes us think of Madredeus, Dulce Pontes, and Amália herself. A fusion between traditional and contemporary that results in a perfect wedding. The message, with a great emotional charge, transports people on a journey of sensations that affect the three levels of human consciousness, and awaken feelings and memories stored deep in our minds. The performance on stage, duly thought out down to the smallest detail, completes the transmission of the message, with the presence of the dancers who represent the "demons" in the performer's mind. As soon as the scream at the end of the song is heard, demonstrating the will to win, the "demons" disappear. Iolanda will represent Portugal at Eurovision, and in my opinion, she doesn't need to change anything for Malmo. Everything is perfect.

By far my favorite Portuguese performance since I have been following Eurovision. I hope this is staged to the brim and go for the win, it does not fall short to any other act, it is Iolanda, Angelina and Slimane having the best actual songs and vocals, others can only compete based on other factors such as fun, beats, lights, etc.

I very much disagree with you on "actual best songs" - that's very much up to personal taste! It's so snobby & elitistic to say (what you consider to be) "actual songs", it's really disturbing how snobby some Eurovision fans are. Eurovision is first & foremost *a TV entertainment show!!* Not a snobby elitistic highbrow contest - better go to opera or the like if you want that, and let everyone else enjoy what they enjoy.

@@elvinam888 So the song that won Sanremo, and that is leading the ESC scoreboard, and is 4th in the odds, is not a good song...? I wonder which song you think is good and how it would have fared at Sanremo if sung in Italian. Every National Final winner has a good song, I am just saying that there are several factors that make them good and Iolanda's is one of the few that has song quality as the main factor.

Hi Jude. Loved your reaction. Portugal is still not getting the love it truly deserves. This song is a banger and can win it all. She is remarkable! I love Telemoveis too but think it all went a bit wrong with the staging and costumes. You should check out Mimicat’s performance of Ai Curaçao during the national final this year. It was a really cool version which I think you’ll enjoy xo

  • @aijamberisabel
    @aijamberisabel Před 4 měsíci +3

Portugal chose he best option. her voice is beautiful, the first note just immediately sent chills down my spine, her voice is beautiful, I love her styling, the contemporary dancing is so atmospheric and perfect, the staging is restrained yet beautiful, the Portuguese in the lyrics is beautiful, I was on tue edge of crying the whole time it was on, I love the instrumental, I love that it is so intimate and simple to really let the vocal glide over the top and shine, the song is dramatic in the best way, the progression of the song is beautiful and haunting, it just invites you into its grasp and never lets you go for the whole 3 minutes, it is so atmospheric and beautiful and it is just such a powerful song. I can’t fault this entry. It is incredible and will do amazingly in the juries (it won’t win but it is a sure jury top 5) and the televote will love this because it is one of the only ballads this year that does its things incredibly and people will just be so moved and stuck be it like I was and just have to vote for it. Overall it has strong chances to end top 10 and it is a locked qualifier 100%. This is a 10/10 for me and it is in my top 10 of this incredible year, I truly don’t know how I’ll survive Eurovision week so many good songs will be robbed for sure.

It is a really disturbing trend I see that entries with any comedy elements in them are regarded by some "trash", "fast food music" and whatnot, while so-called "serious" songs (like this) are automatically consirered superior, "art", "quality" and "real music"...This does not happen in e.g. films, plays or literature - comedies are not regarded as "trash" and automatically inferior to drama or tragedies, both genres are regarded as art in their own right, so why does this apply to music?! (Or rather, *some* apply it to music.) This makes me so sad.
And all the more so as it's Eurovision music, Eurovision which IS first & foremost a TV entertainment show! Some people have forgotten this & got this all wrong, regrettably...

It all depends on personal taste...i have extreme difficulty at ranking things, i don't have a favorite song, i have many, from different countries, styles, genres.
Same applies to movies, and there i'm going to disagree with you, comedy is indeed considered a lesser genre, which to me makes no sense, making someone laugh is difficult, when it's well done the reward is just good vibes...but go take a look at the oscars and tell me what recognition comedies have!
