Thank you The Untamed for giving us this bittersweet moment between Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian but making it more sweet!
I know some people think The Untamed version of Jiang Cheng is too soft, but I honestly don’t mind this version of the character.
Actually hearing him say “I’m sorry” to Wei Wuxian and having him stay still when Wei Wuxian places his hand on his shoulder and wipes away his tears is seriously going to make me emotional. qwq
Spoilers:
This is the closure to Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s relationship that we didn’t really get in the novel.
Here’s my attempt at translating, for anyone interested!! My Chinese isn’t very good but here’s what I’ve got with my limited skills:
*Jiang Cheng:* You’ve told me...I’ll become clan leader and you’ll be my subordinate-supporting me for our whole lives, never betraying our Yunmeng Jiang sect. These are all things you said yourself!
*Wei Wuxian:* I’m sorry. I broke my promise.
(Pause)
*Jiang Cheng:* We’ve already reached this point. Do I still need you to say sorry? Am I really that delicate? _(I’m not entirely sure about this part: he calls himself a 金贵 person, and it might be an idiom because Google doesn’t have a translation)_
(Pause)
*Jiang Cheng:* I’m sorry.
*Wei Wuxian:* You don’t have to apologize to me. Just think of it as what I’m paying back to Jiang clan.
(Wei Wuxian moves in closer)
*Wei Wuxian:* As for this matter...don’t carry them heavily in your heart. Just forget it. _(A little laugh)_ Although...I know with your attitude, you’ll probably always remember. But I have to say...I really do think now that this is all in the past. It’s like those events happened in my past life. Let’s leave them be. We don’t have to keep lingering on them.

JC and WY never truly reconcile their relationship. It's kind of an impasse for them. The drama puts in more closure than the novel did. No matter how sorry each are or how much they still love each other, everything is moot now because all the events of the past have already occurred and nothing can go back to the way it was.
Brenda Yeah I know! I’ve read the novel and are just waiting for the 2 last extras to come out. I really wanted for both of them to reconcile in the novel but it’s as you said. The web series might just give it to us.

@Historia Maria i don't think he is like that at all. If he is he would just told Wei Ying the reason why he lost his golden core instead of silent. It wouldn't change anything but Wei Ying would at least know that he also cared. But just like Wei Ying who couldn't tell him the truth about his golden core, Jiang Cheng also couldn't say anything.
@Historia Maria Good analysis, I have said this before, this boy inherited his mother's genes to the core, if I were Wei, I would be more angry at Cheng than this Meng guy. His crying doesn't move me one bit and his sorry hahaha, just as hypocritical as Xue's love. I can understand him being angry because his sister and the husband died at the orders of Wei though technically it's not his fault but I can't understand how after 16yrs he has not found in his heart to forgive and reflect on how everything played. 16 yrs a long time for one to keep resentment for a "dead brother". He truly treated Wei as a stranger from the beginning, he knew very well that Wei left for burial grounds with nothing, no cloths no money, he knew he went empty handed but when he to visit( oh no he didn't go to visit, he went to demand Wei to turn in Yin seal and return back home) he didn't take him any blankets or clothes or leave him some up keep money like any other brother would do. Because he cared much about outsiders and his stupid band useless reputation he denounced him without a second thought nor did he discuss this with the senior sister. Now he blames Wei for his parents death but any fool knows and knew that Wen clan was planning on attacking other sectors, he himself knows that Nei clan leader was hidden at their place with injuries, so why in the world would he still be blaming this on his "brother" almost 18yrs passed. A lot has happened, a lot was lost, pointing finger won't bring back anything but Wei and Cheng can no longer be the "brothers" they used to be because Cheng's attitude and take on life is something one should run away from.

Then you clearly are incapable of viewing everything without being biased... JC went through a lot too and was hurt by Wei. Also he sacrificed a lot for him even his core (if you read the novel you will know). Both brothers love and cherish each other... It's just that so many things happend between them, that hurt both of them deeply and things cannot go back to how they were.

Finally we get to this scene. IMO too much misunderstandings occured and too much time has passed, neither WY or JC can be the same again but they can rebuild their relationship because Jing Ling is there. That's what their sister would've wanted; the two uncle as family once more & as his guardians and mentors.
This scene is so much better for me than what we got in the novel. I always felt like JC and WWX never got any closure, despite their relationship being one of the main drivers of the first arc of the story. I love how the CQL!JC is much more humanized and relatable. This was such a beautiful show and an amazing tribute to the novel.

People often forget that Jiang Cheng had lost his parents, family, and home at such a very young age. He was pressured to be the successors of his family and bring back honor for those who has passed before him. Often times he tried to defend Wei Wuxian and and showed care for him as the new leader, but imagine his burden and his pain he has to go through doing that. Though, Wei Wuxian potrayed this endless compassion and forgivenes, Jiang Cheng reminds me as a sensible and relateable character; a human who made mistakes, getting up, and try to mend them.
@Historia Maria The fight on that chapter was a fake, just to make sure the whole world *thought* they were enemies. Jiang Cheng still came to see Wei Ying, even he helped Yan Li to show her wedding dress to Wei Ying at Yi Ling.
Jiang Cheng ate a piece of lotus root, “You were the one who smashed my arm first. You took seven days, while I had to hang my arm up for an entire month.”
Wei WuXian grinned, “How could it seem realistic if it wasn’t hard enough? It was your left hand anyways. It didn’t hinder you from writing. It takes a hundred days to heal a wound to the bone. Thus Wei Wuxian asked for Jiang Clan to tell the whole world that he no longer has ties with him? What I am saying was, Jiang Cheng *tried* his best to help Wei Wuxian in the most realistic, possible, and diplomatic way as a leader who tried to rebuilt his legacy. And since you are so expert in the novel, you know damn well that the only thing Jiang Cheng was so pissed about all these years was because Wei Wuxian choose to stay by other people rather than to stand by Jiang Cheng's side as per their childhood promise.

Yes, Jiang Chang hasn't forgiven Wei ying about what happened to his family. Although what Wei Ying did was noble and a good cause it still caused his family to die in turn. The world is not a pretty nor a fair place. Wei Ying understand and does not expect Jiang Cheng to forgive him, because he knows that his actions had caused Jiang Cheng's family death. Although he doesn't forgive him for that, he also could not forgive himself for wronging Wei Ying as well. Its complicated and Jiang Cheng is just very hard on himself.
