But he never said it was a "dirty" play, nor did he criticize Panarin in any way for it. To the contrary, he said he loves this aspect of the game. His complaint was about consistency - not penalizing that hit was inconsistent with what we saw during the regular season. And Messier didn't disagree.

Maybe you should listen better, its a 3min clip and you either missed what he said or just ignored it. He is never calling the hit dirty. He goes as far as to mention that he was hit like that, head contact happens, his whole point is, and he is right, that if wilson or rempe did this they'd have been gone, and probably sussy'd, and be honest, you know that's right, if you can't admit that wilson, or say trouba, would have been in trouble and roasted by the media and player safety then you are lying to yourself. He's saying that he's not against big hits like that but if you consistently suspend players for similar hits, which 1,000% has been the precedent set, then you need to keep that same standard, or just say, "hey, it's playoff big boy hockey, get over it", but acting like it's just an everyday no big deal it is just bonkers. Enough with the back and forth and favoritism.

Panarin did not charge, he did not elevate, he did not raise his arms, he planted his body into Oshie and unfortunately the head took part of the hit. So smart - and Pararin shows his team and the Caps he is not afraid to mix it up. Panarin timed it perfectly of course - he moves sideways as Oshie's moment makes him slams into Panarin's back. The initial point of contact is NOT the head and he didn't skate into it or leave his feet.
    It's a good call. It's colateral damage.

@@frankt285 I don’t think anyone is trying to make it soft. Nobody wants to see guys get hurt because of a hit like this. Only the players can make it soft. A lot of teams systems don’t want their team running around getting out of defensive position to make a meaningless hit when the player has already gotten rid of the puck. Look at reaves in game 1. Takes himself out of position to make a hit and the bruins score on a 2 on 1. If rather see planarian score a highlight reel goal than make a bone head play like this

Subban, Mr. taking knees out. Oshie was asking for it all game. Funny, I didn't hear Subban say anything when Pastrnak cheap shotted Lindgren twice resulted in Lindgren getting hurt twice. He like Bissomoron hates the Rangers and can't talk objectively on them. If you look at Oshie's history, he's a dirty player who constantly invokes the wrath of other players. There are literally several videos of Oshie getting drilled by other players. It's not a coincidence.

The caps coach asked a follow up question about feet leaving the ice, I guess he didn’t see that never happened. And then was confused when Oshie, shaken up, had to leave the ice? Trying to make it about spotters claiming something? Oshie got rocked and was visibly shaken up so he was taken off the ice. Nice try coach.
