I scored one today used in mint condition for $600. So far my experience has been superb. Routing is overall very clean (even in the control cavity), frets good/nut installed properly, neck joint is tight, and the finish is consistent all around. The only thing I’d do is change the nut to a bone one. Previous owner installed a Dimarzio in the neck that sounds really good. Highly recommend to anyone considering a sub $1000 guitar that can do it all.

I'm getting the Desert Sand version of this, but I will be swapping out the pickups to the Seymour Duncan Sentient/Pegasus set, and bumping the string gauge up. Going for the Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom .010 - .052.

I know I'm a few years late here but I'm keeping my eye out to purchase one of these. Used of course. I've owned one of these Dinks before and I regret ever getting rid of it. And the hardtail just makes maintenance simpler. Damn the two piece body as long as it plays nice. Luvin' that flat coal black. Thank you for the honest review Arnold. Liked and subscribed.

I impulse bought one of these at around 2 in the morning maybe a month ago. I bought a mint b stock model from musicians friend and there was a sitar buzz on the g string but it went away after restringing with 10s and giving the guitar a setup. The fretwork on mine is good but before setting it up there was buzz indicating the frets could benefit from a leveling. Apart from the nut needing an upgrade and the frets ever so slightly in need of leveling it's built pretty well. Didn't have any of the other QC issues experienced here. Now the issues are sort of annoying but I wouldn't have kept this guitar if it wasn't worth it. This thing fucking kills. The jack placement is hands down my new favorite jack mounting method, I'll even take this jack over the Vai style recessed I am in love with this jack placement. The finish is a raw paint over the ash, if you want a guitar that stays pretty don't buy this but if you want a guitar you can beat up and will weather really well then this is awesome. I bought this as an alternative to buying a Jim Root Strat because this feels similar in theme but is in my opinion a much more capable guitar. Maybe treat this like a Gibson and try before you buy but this guitar is a shredding monster with some beautiful creamy neck tones with the tone rolled down

I tried out the burl top sand version and the neck felt amazing. The 5 tone blade option on the cleans sounded amazing and the neck felt really nice with the rounded edge on the fret board. Running it through distortion sounded better then the agile 7 I had and returned. I didn’t notice any problem with the fret leveling on the one I tried. The string ports are something I’ll keep in mind when I pick one up next weekend.

I’m actually glad I have the LTD now. Don’t know if you’ve played one or have reviewed the M-1000 but u should definitely check one out. I’m super surprised on it’s quality vs price. ESP/ESP LTD are still doing a lot of the right things.

I noticed something else about locking tuners, non locking tuners actually have finer tuning capabilities. Its like the locking tuners jump around the target note too much which isnt a big deal but interesting after switching to a neck without locking tuners i realized how much easier it was to fine tune.

At this price point, those kinds of QC issues can be found with literally every single guitar brand. They arent all going to be perfect.
With that said a lot of really really good ones do get made as well. The entire line of MIM DK24s are great working mans guitars and I think vastly underrated. It's at a price point in the market where Ibanez, Schecter, ESP LTD, and PRS SE get all of the shine but Charvel's quality, tone, and playability will match or exceed anything offered from these other brands. For some reason Charvel is always in their shadow and doesnt seem to have the big fan base that it deserves.

Hey i found one this summer at Long & McQuade in Canada. I financed it and got it that day for like 120$ down. It was amazing I have a Ibanez RG 7321 and it was similar the fan frets were super comfortable and easy to play on. I also found the fan frets were inspiring I sat and just played for hours. My only complaint was the pickups were a bit fuzzy at first I adjusted them and that fixed the fuzz, but I found they were still a little weak it seems to be a general problem with the Ibanez guitars I have encountered. All and all I loved the thing I took it back because I lost my job and couldn't afford the payment. I got most of my money back I think I lost 60$ and had it for 4 months. All in all I loved it and would buy it again in a heartbeat. if your in Canada I would recommend going and ordering one in at Long and maquade and trying it out the restocking fee isn't much and you will get to physically test it though your style and gear. ps it feels way better then a rg7321 ( necks mate not gloss fretboard smooth no pesky sharp fret edges) hope that helps cheers!

This is a shame that this one came in such poor condition. I got the dk24 hss in primer gray and it is perfect all around. Just needs a little more fret leveling, but everything else is beautifully done. Upsetting to see that your experience wasn't as great

Nice review Arnold. The 1000 $ guitar range is always so hit and miss.

Does anyone know if you can plug an angled cable into the Jack?

No, angled bit goes in the amp when using these output jacks.

There is new version of this guitar with a mahogany body and walnut top. In your opinion would that help with brightness? I had So Cal with alder body, maple board and Duncan Distortions. There was something about the tone that i did not like. Kind of mushy and snarly. I'm thinking would i have the same issue with new mahogany one?

The mahogany one would definitely sound darker, for sure. I have played a guitar with Duncan Distortions in it that had a mahogany body and neck before, and in that particular instrument's case it was not mushy, but BEEFY.

$900 for a guitar with some major build quality issues...nope. There’s so much more out there for that price. I’m sure you just got a semi lemon though because Jackson/Charvel is normally on point at the Pro Series price point.

do you have any alternatives? i was looking for a versatile guitar in that price range, and was eyeing a Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HSH 2PT CM DRB, but the constant build quality flaws i see on the reviews on internet off charvel guitars, put me off a little...

ENGİN EROL BAYSAL it’s probably the nut being to tight. I’d recommend changing it to a bone nut and removing the string trees. Those little suckers ain’t really needed.
