Man i love Yuna, but this run of Final fantasy 10-2 where we see if we can beat the whole game using only yuna was really something else, there were so many difficulties and problems its unreal, not to mention we had to "nearly" 100% the entire game!

@DarkFrozenDepths I think the reflects do stop at some point in ff7. I remember as a kid causing the reflect chain to see what woukd happen and I left the room. At some point the reflect stopped because I came back in to enemies giving my party the hurt.

As a natural spanish speaker, Tie-dus always sounded stupid to me, Tee-dus is the most natural sounding choice
I'd say when it comes to manual counter it should be allowed, unless doing a manual attack has a higher base damage than an auto-counter. However, as X does not have that as a feature you should be allowed to do so for any attack that hits but does not trigger counter. "Hits" specifically as with the base counter skill, if the attack does not land counter does not get triggered. Hope this was a good enough reason as to why it should be allowed.

Can I counter this attack? Computer says no.
This was a very hard challenge to accomplish.
From what I understand, you can counter an attack command and white/black magic command, but you cannot counter abilities and skills.
I'll take a stab at the hint and say it'll be some sort of Yuna/Lulu duo challenge but they can only use physical attacks. I think the hint comment was about giving them evade and counter later, not for a counter only challenge like this one, but just a way to let them get a slight bit more damage on top of their own basic attacks
*edit to add that they can still use items/spells for healing and defensive buffs, but any damage output can only be done with basic attack or from counters.
I'd be keen to see a golden sun challenge run.

I agree with you at the 12:00 mark - manually counterattacking does not seem like it's in the spirit of the challenge. But instead of just calling it a fail and giving up I would suggest keeping a count of how many fights you had to bend the rules like that for, and then include that in the wrap-up.
Or Final Fantasy 10 could've made manual attacks 75% effective when not countering.
i feel like for a run like this, even with it modded in, you can't feasibly start until Mihen. specifically because most of the bosses cant trigger the counter naturally in some situations. making it an attack/item only until Mihen, then counter only from there could save some headaches or feeling like the run is failed by manual counters. then again, maybe the manual countering could be worked into it, making it a no magic run until Mihen instead.
I think that FF4's thumbnail in the Steam screenshot is the hint for the next video. If this is right, I shall have cake, please

It's really refreshing to see someone actually front up on a challenge video and say no, it's not possible. I can't remember the last time i saw a legit challenge video, most should be titled "Can i beat (game) using only X, except for when i use Y and Z to carry on regardless and make a longer video".

For the sake of this kind of challenge run, because it is already going to be very difficult, you should be permitted to just mod in Counter and Magic Counter weapons for everyone at the start, and absolutely impliment a "attack once per special attack that doesn't trigger counter if I can't get normal counters to trigger" rule.
Anima's pain attack actually has 99% chance of killing a character, so if you get really lucky, you could actually survive it a couple of times(this only applies to the version of Pain that Seymour's Anima uses). Alternatively, you could have used an aeon and went with the "attack back after being hit" thing. Obviously this is your challenge and your rules, but it would've been fun to see this done on some later fights in the game.

The reason why counter get not trigger are.
AOE attack do not trigger it.
Attack that do special damage.
Thats why you can fix the ruke for these 2 since you counter a attack and the game does not allow it in the first place
Counter weapon for Tidus can be bougth at mushroom rock earlist.
For counter challenge in FF10 you want speed not to high or you get capal tunnle syndrom just pressing Triangle.
speed is an interesting debate, you dont want to many turns over the mobs but likewise need enough to cover healing

About the counter - attack bit at 10 min or so.
I think the attacking thing is fine, but as a penalty I would ban healing or defending until the boss' next action. Using equipment swapping to waste turns.
However I think the Counter skill you can unlock on the sphere grid would be acceptable and I probably would have modded that in instead of the weapons
10:00 - I would consider it a failure, but keep going and count in how many fights do you have to actually attack (I would count tutorials and previous fight with Sin as well). Very good video by the way :)
the attack after damage is effectively a counter attack. also counts as a detriment since you cant use that turn to heal or defend

A game where counter sounds overpowered, what can possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, a lot of things. I will say least you gave it the best honest try. Also I wouldn't worry being too hard on yourself, a lot of challenge runners had to do things they don't like cause it was a no choice situation but we still like watching the challenge run anyhow long as its still entertaining to watch.

Definitely the sinspawn and blitzball machina were fails, imo.
However, just counting the number of failures and going on is a fine way to get through the whole challenge run.
i'm guessing why kimahri's jump dealt full damage to you is defend doesn't work vs overdrives which jump would still be classified as there. i'm certain defend only reduces damage from basic attacks
I agree in the spirit of the challenge attacking after you get hit shouldnt be allowed BUT i think for future challenges bending the rules in such a way in order to press on should be fine. Honestly even just a compilation at the end of here are all the bosses it worked on and heres the ones that said nope. Obviously assuming that doesn't just break your game entirely
One interesting challenge would be "Can you beat Final Fantasy X without saving?"
The point is no restoring of HP or MP and no Rez of Aeons with the saves. The Game can only be saved when you get restored by the story anyways.
ODINS (one day in no saves) runs are as old as the game
Hilariously, Dark Bahamut is a bonus boss that's not only beatable with only counters, this is an easy strategy for beating it.

I personally think that attacking after taking damage from something that the game doesn't use the skill on is fair
I like the rule bend of counter attack if it's not proc'd automatically. You technically lose a defense phase for reduced damage, so it feels like a decent trade off

I mean technically by manually attacking after being attacked is a loss of a turn (no defend or heal) so if anything you get to continue the run and put yourself at a disadvantage.

Didn't finish the vid at this time, but hitting after Sigh counts as a counter to me. It refused to do anything else and this was to continue the run. I think it should be allowed as long as it keeps the spirit and/or prevents a soft lock.

'Counterattack' means the 'ability counterattack', not 'what the ability can do'. Attacking after being attacked should 100% be not allowed and a fail.
Hoping the next one will be FFIV run, guessing based on playtime screenshot in the sponsor segment
i imagine alot of the boss moves not being counterable at the start might be because you arent meant to have it yet so noone checked them
Yeah, I think you might be just a little too harsh on yourself. I would remind you that you've done quite a few challenges for this game, and the more specific/niche they get, the harder it's going to be to get a "pure" run completed, as it's often not how the developers intended you to play the game. (Seymour challenge, I'm looking at you.) It's honestly just fun to watch you do them to the truest/best of your abilities, even if the occasional rule gets bent a bit.
The rule bend on attacking when you take damage is legit... as long as counter attack is equipped on the attacker...

I think the minor rule bends are fine because they're literally situations where you CAN'T trigger it, and the challenge would be dead on arrival otherwise and we'd get less entertainment.

Seriously though I was originally going to suggest magic only in FF4 as your next run due to FF4 showing up during the sponsor that has "Spell" in its name, but you already said FF4 wasn't next. So I am honestly not sure now.
Although... it is possible it is an item only challenge. Not sure which game, but you did put a lot of emphasis on you usually not allowing items at the start of this video. So I guess I'm gonna guess it will be a no item challenge.
Thoughts on the Killika boss fight RE: Sigh not triggering counter:
I watch another channel that does a lot of challenge runs, GameChamp3000. She often starts a challenge run that seems very promising and then eventually something like this just shuts the challenge down instantly. Some wall that is impossible to pass with the given rules of the challenge. In those cases, rather than saying "Challenge failed" and ending the video she pivots to "Challenge failed. New challenge: what is the MINIMUM number of (whatever the challenge broke over) needed to (complete Challenge)".
So for example this challenge might be Failed in Killika but it would become "What is the MINIMUM number of fights needed to complete the game without using counter-attacks). This allows more flexibility in attempting "fun" challenge concepts since even if they're impossible you can still try to minimize the failure and see what outcome you can get. And fun is very important here, I think. So many challenges are a slog, you shouldn't avoid doing something fun just because it might not be possible
i try to stick to my rules as much as possible, i did used to do something a little like gamechamp but everybody called me out and said i was just stealing there idea's so i stopped doing it

I think the question - Can you best FFX eith just counter attack - should be no. However i dont think it should stop you from beating those fight that you cant like youve been doing and continuing to the end for content because i think it will be interesting to see the rest of the boss fights

Pain has 'only' a 100% chance to hit with Death which the game lowers to 99%. Technically, you would have to get the 1% chance a lot times in a row and survive the damage from Pain which is normally not shown.

I think attacking sin spawn after sigh was fair and stayed in the rules of the run
imo, a challenge is impossible if a rule has to be tweaked because otherwise a boss wouldnt go down. if sins fin doesnt attack, you cannot counter-attack, thats the end of the challenge. everything afterwards is basically just seeing how far you can go with only counter-attack. except the rule from the get-go is to not count all bosses where this challenge does not apply, but that also means a good chunk of bosses is excluded from the challenge. its the same with other challenges where items have to be scripted into the inventory at the start of the game. it means the challenge is not possible, simply because you dont have these items, summons, materia whatever from the beginning. which is not due to player skills or strategy, but simply due to game mechanics.
i still continue watching cuz im interested to see how many bosses can only be defeated with counter-attack, but then its also a question, is using items a counter-attack? would the ability auto-potion or auto-phoenix be allowed since its a characters automatic action which is not a counter-attack? i suppose it is necessary, otherwise the challenge also would be over after basically the first boss.
i think you can make it easier for yourself that you basically just exclude all the bosses in such challenges where your set rule cannot apply and kill them off normally offscreen or with a snippet and just list the bosses where the challenge is possible to do. since sin-spawn also cant be killed with counter-attack, i wouldve just killed it normally since its basically excluded from the challenge, so there isnt rly a need for you to make the fight harder for yourself. in that case, i wouldve excluded anima from the list as its not possible, killed it as usual and then continue the challenge afterwards.

Since you can do the rescue mission then leave before beating it. Id love to see how over powerd you could get before coming back to finish the ship mission.

i think using attack after taking damage without triggering counter should be considered as fail. And from that point on just to find out what enemies can be dealt with using counter only. If the ability doesn't trigger it's not a counter as a counter doesn't use up your turn. So no you can not beat FFX using only Counter regardless of what happens at the end. Also is it pronounced Ko-Fi or Ko-Fee

I think in certain moments the rules can be bended fairly, i mean how else are you going to kill something only using one attack that you can never counter 😅 lol

Also when you're doing weird challenges like this, I think modding in the means to actually participate in the dang thing at the start of the game is pretty acceptable. However, I'd insist on ditching the modded-in items the second you find legitimate means of doing the thing.
i did consider that but magic counter is a required means in alot of fights from macalania onwards and you cant get that legit until after the airship. thats why i only gave tidus counter and magic counter until guadosalam
