Bio: Wajahat S. Khan is an Emmy-nominated journalist and author reporting on Indo-Pacific security and focusing on the Af-Pak conflict. Nothing is surprising here, Pakistani politicians and establishment repeating their standard policy to rip the pockets of the USA as usual. In return Afghans and the citizens of Pakistan paying for it with their lives.

This will be a gigantic shift in US policy. Generally, Western governments favor military dictators in 3rd world countries. Doing business with military dictators has been comfortable and profitable to them (and no doubt profitable for the dictators) . If this negative policy is changed and the US and UK respect democratic forces in Pakistan, they may win the respect of 220 million Pakistanis. It is a fact that Pakistanis have little respect for autocratic Muslim rulers of the Middle East. Positive, pro democratic change of attitude in the West will create space for a positive perception in Pakistan for the West.
