    The first thing I noticed was that the design allowed for more substantial speakers (desirable) and this proved to be correct. Personally, I like the design here, as you point out, access to all functions is immediately apparent and quick to access. When you layered the strings they came in as a subtle background whereas with most instruments they come in too loudly and then you need to adjust the balance whereas here, you can set that balance before hand. Most importantly though is it seems to be very desirable in all of the essential qualities for a piano, allowing good expression of your beautifully subtle playing. Seems to be a winner. The only tonal flaw I detected was in playing the low notes, there sometimes seemed to be something not quite right in the attack, but this is very trivial. [By the way, on the video the dynamic range you discuss isn't so apparent - compression by CZcams? or something else?]

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  Před 3 lety +3

      Yup... CZcams really compresses both audio & video quality. 🥺

    Excellent review! I have a number of synths but never had a weighted action keyboard. The action is close to what I remember from the grand pianos when I was at the university a billion years ago. Incredible value for the money from a brand name company. Alesis tech support is excellent also.
    I bought this EP after I saw your review and I love it. Thank you.

  • @Zoco101

    I have finally tracked this piano down in Europe, where the name is slightly different. It's called Alesis Prestige, with no mention of "Grand Piano". There is a superior model too, called Alesis Prestige Artist, which has more voices and 256-note polyphony. The prices are still pretty high in Europe. My supplier asks €529 and €649 for the two respective models. In terms of pricepoint, this pitches them against Yamaha's P-125, Casio's PX-S1000 and almost against Roland's FP30X. I think these two prices need to come down a bit.

    • @JeremySee

      The Prestige is Recital Grand in the USA. 😉

  • @paulc3960

    Thank you Jeremy. I might buy one in the future. It has 20 watts speakers, and output to muxer/pa system. It sounds sweet.

  • @jjacob25101
    @jjacob25101 Před 3 lety +3

    Wowza! I know Alesis has been around a long time. I never paid too much attention to their early keyboards, being a Roland devotee, but they have incredible affordable Nano Verb multi-effects units and the SR-16 drum machine with along with comparablry priced drum machines like the Roland/Boss ones, was among the best.
    The blows me away for an 88 key progressive weighted action portable digital piano with great bread and butter sounds, intuitive user interface, powerful amplified speakers, light weight, attractive retro designs, and all the essential profressionak key features many other keyboards lack.
    And for $380 US and it even comes with a basic footswitch pedal and available piano type pedal.
    I would definitely buy this now if I needed an 88 key piano.
    The keys could be textured, but you described everuthing well, and for me, I am pretty knowledgeable of all these features and functions, and it would not be limiting to my level of playing, yet... lol
    Both size jacks for two headphones at the front left, the dual keyboard feature for duo playing/lessons, markings for the multi functions on the keyboard area without making it look like a beginner piano, and easy to understand without the owners manual.
    Big music holder, though I agree, it looks slightly odd. I would use it at home, but not on the road and such.
    The weight is astounding considering my full blown Alienware Workstation laptop I got 16 years ago weighs as much as this keyboard.
    It would be nice to have that deeper ledge on top to fit my Roland JD-Xi synthesizer. That would be a perfect gigging combo, especially with all the professional outputs in audio input, since the JD-Xi has no speakers. I just need a stereo headphone Y adapter, and two mono 1/4" jack to 1/8" plug adapters. Stuff like that I am very familiar with.
    But at least they now have portable compact keyboard stands with 2nd tier add ons to accommodate the smaller 37" key synths like mine, or the Reface series, like the DX as an alternative.
    Stereo 1/4" audio out jacks and the real USB-B printer cable interface jack instead of micro USB shows this is professional equipped like my JD-Xi, with also has 4 tracks, including drums, mono analog synth, and two digital audio tracks and a vocoder.
    I wouldn't need the more expensive keyboards I mentioned, and if I needed another keyboard to play other parts, the lightweight CT-S1 would be perfect to round out the sonic library.
    Again, great price and sounds: acoustic, and essential electric pianos, and a well chosen variety of essential tones. It keeps getting better.

      @@JeremySee You're welcome. Things I mention may give others insight for their applications and decision making.
      *Also, your link for this digital piano to Sweetwater does not go directly to the product page. I had to search for the specific instrument using the filters to go to Alesis, and find it among the 7 choices, but I found the Alesis Recital Grand piano in your video and the Amazon link to be not the same one as the $380 Recital Pro with has the conventional appearance layout of most other keyboards. The $450 price is still a bargain for all of this.
      At Sweetwater, the do have their katest $600 88 key digital piano with 30 voices and 256 note polyphony msybe more suited for traditional piano players using the sustain a lot.

    Thanks for another swell video Jeremy. This is an exciting new product for beginners. The (older) Alesis Recital Pro has been criticised elsewhere for clipping when recording through lineout, even at extremely low signal volumes, and also for variable key action. Is it possible that such things (if they truly were problems) have been rectified in this Alesis Grand Piano?
    I must say that the main piano tone and Mk1 Rhodes tone are impressive, particularly for an entry level digital piano. The triple pedal option is very exciting.
    Without going into exact street prices here, how do the MSRPs compare between the "Grand Piano" and the Recital Pro? Is it a difference of say 40% extra? We don't seem to have this new piano in Europe just yet.

    I have a question, does this piano have the same problem as the Recital series where the black keys were softer than the white keys? It is that I am in doubt between which piano is the better option, if the Yamaha P45 or the one in the video, the Alesis Recital Grand, in case the Alesis piano does not present that difference between black and white keys, which of the 2 pianos would you recommend?

    7:28 mention the recital pro instead of the recital grand, I assume that was a simple mistake. Does anyone have an opinion of the value and extra cost of the grand vs pro? I notice the pro (not the grand) is still in the Best Beginner Pianos list.

      Sharp eyes! The Pro is still in the list as it is slightly cheaper and beginners may not want to spend that much until they are sure their interest is confirmed.

Is there a description they use for a different surface? I only see where it says weighted or hammer action.

    I've been planning my move to Singapore for a while, and still debating how to handle the piano. We have Kawai GL10, which is a 153cm baby grand. Should I switch to a keyboard for apartment living? What are the logistics for a serious player in an apartment? On a similar note, if I stick to a grand, do I transport this one, or buy another when I get there? What is the used market like? Love your vids, interested in your opinions.

    You should be more honest and objective when it comes to review this kind of products. The Alesis is one of the worst keyboards in this category/segment. Action is terrible. Honesty should prevail. Both the Kawai ES110 and the Yamaha P125 blow this one out of the water and the price difference is minimum.

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  Před 3 lety +7

      😅 an extra $250USD or 50% more expensive isn't a "minimum" difference. You do know that in most parts of the world, USD$250 is an ENTIRE FAMILY's income for a month.

    • @mlgl9728
      @mlgl9728 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JeremySee lol the Recital Grand can be found somewhere between 400/450e, even cheaper depending where and when you buy it. Both the P125 and the ES110 can easily be found around 500/550e. My sister bought the FP30 for 479e in 2019 and this Roland also blows the Alesis out of the water despite it's weakness on certain aspects. Definitely almost no difference whatsoever considering what you pay and what you get. No way "50% more expensive" as you stated above.
