You can obviously tell. A $150 figure would not have all those paint marks and scratches.

Some pointers I look for when determining if a figure is real or not:
- Fakes, usually have a weird finish coating. So when you run your finger on the surface, it'll drag instead of moving through smoothly.
- colors (like Tenha says) on fakes are dull.
- pay attention to small accessories on the figure like ear rings, belts, sword hilt, etc. Fakes usually place all effort in one place, mainly the face. Then, just leave a lot of the small accessories to be bland or lack in detail.
- if the figure looks even slightly off from the promo pics. It's fake.
Edit: I realized if it's in a box. you wouldn't be able to analyze some of the points. So here's some tips.
- look if the box contains the IP holder's logo. (In this case MiHoyo)
- pay attention of the ink quality of the box.
- research if it has an official launch and not just some random 3rd party making their own version of the figures.
- cheap, is a big red flag.
Also the price, if something is too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true.
Although for $20, the fake one isn't too bad, with a bit of DIY it should be able to fix most of the paint issues.

i didn't realize fake figures were this good. I got told that a Remilia scarlet figure i bought for $35-$40 was probably fake just based on the price i paid (real one was going for 150-200 iirc). I tried to look at mine vs pic of real ones and couldn't tell a difference so i really doubted it. but seeing this is like yeah it probably is fake, still kinda worth it tho.
It very clear which is fake if you see it irl, even more clear with close up or touch
not all fakes are good, specifically genshin non official figure bootlegs seem to be pretty alright based off this and the one i have

the difference of the fake and real is, the details coloring...also if its for display for people to admire i would display the fake one and safeguard the real, to avoid heartache XD

I've nabbed a fake Klee before off aliexpress, but as you said not too shabby for 20$. Personally I don't mind the better fakes, because I'm not gonna shell out like 200$ for a figurine, I honestly just can't justify it cost wise for a single figure. Like I'll spend the 20$, but the 180$ (or in this case 130$) goes for normal life stuff like gas, mortgage, etc.
I love the comparison video though! You should definitely do more of the contrasts between the real and fake versions. Ninguang's fake is missing a ton of the stuff, and you'll see little painting mistakes too.
There's also some kickass other stuff on there. Like I picked up a 5 kasen screen that's super dope, not aware of hoyo even making that officially.
I think it makes easier to accept if you buy like once a year or every 6 months and it's money that you saved for luxury sake, but if you want a lot of figures it's hard to justify this range of price. While I don't have the option of buying such figures I just can't bring myself to buy a fake one, and too much figures can get out of hand even for people with a lot of space so at least this way I may guarantee some control on that aspect.
@@ShotterGames Oh for sure, for me it's more of a perspective thing. I find it pretty difficult to justify spending on myself, usually I'm arguing with myself from a utility standpoint, like I clearly need a new for my computer here. Figures are harder because it's like oh nice anime art thing I like to look at sometimes.
Also no Fischl figurine. Like come on Hoyo. Seriously. I'd HAVE to buy a fake of Fischl last I looked. Hell I've only ever even seen one, 3d printed, and I'd have to paint it myself, and if I'm buying all those paints, well now it's time to get back into printing more minis, and that's a whole thing.
Just be careful because fake figures are known to use materials that are not safe and can make you sick, cause bad reactions and have carcinogens in them

This video just convinced me to buy a bootleg Klee. It looks so good. Your friend didn't even notice until they read the article. I'm for sure convinced in getting the bootleg for $20 easy. Seen other bootleg genshin figure compared to real ones and they are so damn nice for fakes. Imagine instead of paying $1000 for 6 figures you pay $100-$150 for 6 of them. Yeah nah I have some real ones from other anime and the fakes ones on this line look clean compared to other bootlegs of others that look just bad. Real ones not worth it unless your a diehard and have to have a real one. Otherwise go for the bootleg at a cheap price.

You kinda forgot to mention about manufacturing stamps that they put secretly on the figures (mainly underneath the stand)
Can't wait for Ganyu figure ^^. I think if you havent enough money the 20$ version is a really good Option if you want to collect Genshin impact characters. If i had enough money i would buy the Real one too, but that can take a long time.

720p yet the nintendo switch is a big success and didn't need 4k so honestly for $20 over $150+ I'd very happily take that 720p Klee hands down. Still great quality the price using your metaphor lol. I mean even the friend of his didn't know it was a bootleg until he read the article.

I'd honestly get the 20$ fake instead, and then buy some figure paint to correct the smaller blemishes. For as detailed as it is, that Klee figure would not be worth 150$ to me, and that's without shipping and taxes.

I collect the Genshin mini figures, and the fakes for all of them (the bushiroad minis, the battlefield series, and the Paimon-food series) are hilariously awful… like, not even close. ☠️

The problem is that real ones cost 8 times their fake value lol and you can tell they are not worth it for that price..you can ask an artist to print your own resin personalized characters...in general mihoyo stuff really cost A LOT compared to others merchandise..idk like dragonball stuff you can tell miles away a fake compared to a real one for example you can't copy figuarts style and usually the faces of fakes are so ugly, but genshin figures are identical so it's bad to say they are not doing a really good job if the fakes are so easy to do. Facts
I could tell as soon as I saw the face. Either a bad paint job or it's a fake. Faces are really hard to replicate, one detail a millimeter out of line, and it will give you the uncanny feeling.

i've seen people repaint figurine's before in a black and white style or to render them into a 3d digital art style and as bad as funding underground knock off producers/scammer is it's never going to go away, so for 20 bucks i'd totally use it as a based since some people can't sculpt, assemble garage kits or have 3d printer abilities to redesign it into a OOAK figure for myself, then mess up all the hard work of the original $150 or more piece of which i'd save to buy at a later date.
The fake one looks like the practiced one.
I have collected a few fake figures before even statues, and at one point, I buy real statues and figures. After that day on, I never bought another fake. When you watch a video of comparing the fake and the real one, you will think that the figure is worth the price, but when you own the original, it looks really bad but if you are low on money for some figure I would just recommend to save up and buy the original instead but there also exception too. The thing with fake figures is that it is just the paint job,joint,face. So if you buy a fake, then a figure that has a simple pose and the eyes are close, then it will be much nicer.

But OMG 20$ and 150$ u can buy 7 characters looks almost like original but with some little problems or just 1 original figure. But all we know rly peoples who can spend 150$ on figures can buy original. For peoples just like me who extra rare even 20$ can spend on such a thing it will be good enough.
They definitely came from the same factory lol. Rejected models due to quality control were probably scavenged and then sold on the side as “fakes”.

careful, in some cases the bootleggers don't mind copying the legal information on the back of the box and the holographic stickers and the authenticity seals... while, counterintuitively, some manufacturers wont even bother doing those or will print the seal on the box (making it easier to copy), you cannot even trust that, bootleggers doing a good job on one side and manufacturers doing an awful job on the other... just great, best thing is to make yourself familiar with the bootlegs articles and comparisons on the good smile company website and other online reports, things like coloring and printing on the boxes, the type of cardboard and its texture, packaging, paint applications and other small details, material quality, how clear things or heavy pieces are supposed to look and be supported, how things fit, defects from the mold/casting process, shapes, proportions... most bootlegs are casted from molds that didn't make it to production or preproduction prototypes or re-cast of the released figure and then they cheap out on paint application or any printing decal that requires ink so most of the time they are bound to have imperfections and fitting problems and even proportions problems like head to big or looking weird from a certain angle (which can be a problem even in originals) but then again, there are some very good copies that can pass as original except for the fact that they just are not original and you won't realize unless you go full sneakerhead with all the knowledge of the universe about this article production, I worked with this for a few years and believe me, collecting figures is a crazy minefield, will it "explode", will it not, is it even? lol
