  • Here is a quick video showing the Gatorblade G5's replacing my OEM Cub Cadet XT1 blades showing how I removed and installed them. Also a quick mow in the beginning of fall
    UPDATE FOR THE HATERS: I have since switched setups and adjusted things and find that these Gators work great with a mulching plug and decinigrates leaf piles!

    My blades did not rub when I put them on but they sure made a noise when I started the blades up to cut . All I heard was this bang everytime the blades hit those bellys in the deck . I have over 3 acres to do and 2 mowers are better than one . Plus I am up high on a hill and when modular house was put in i hade the front slope gently eased to the bottom of the property

    Hint to keep your deck clean take deck off clean down to bare metal and get grophite slip plate and paint it on . it keeps grass from sticking to the underside of the mower . Keeps it from rusting also . Tow truck drivers use it . I got mine on ebay 44 dollars for a quart and that does 2 mowers . I have been using gator blades since 2016 and I have not had to change them out yet on my cub cadet and I have over 3 acres to mow . I bought the mower and first thing I did was take off new blades and put on gator blades and bought a 46 inch cub cadet this spring and first thing took off blades coated the deck with slip plate and put on new gator blades . I am a fan of them

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance  Před rokem

      Can’t tell if that is a joke or not. This was early on in my CZcams experience.
      Anyway, I have been using these blades for a few years now with no real complaints. I have mulched, I have discharged, I have bagged, I have chopped up branches running them over and they just do it all.
      Sure there is probably a better blade for each of those tasks, but it seems to do all of these pretty well.
      I do however wish for a little better mulching performance, but the issue could just be my grass or deck design.

      @pietromanicioto1697 Před 6 lety +2

      Normally I would use stands with the car, but I knew the mower would not be an issue, so I was a little lax on that behalf. The new blades do cut well. nice and even and never get hung up if anything bigger is in the yard I did not see. I will seldom go out behind the fenced area with it where there is brush and will chew through some thicker stuff to give me some extra space to walk through if needed. While I did originally get these more for cutting up leaves though, I do not think they do really stellar there. An actual mulching setup would do wonders here or bagging.

I may try these blades with the mulching plug to see how they do as I am not thrilled with the mulching blades that came with the setup.

    The only problem with mulching is that the grass loads up and keeps the air away from the dirt. Thatching is required yearly. If. Y grass is short, no big deal but sometimes I can’t get to it and leaving the cut grass on the yard looks messy.

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance  Před 6 lety

      G Howard I normally cut the grass at 4”. So the problem I have with side discharge is that not only it throws it 20’ is that if I don’t mow 2x a week it will leave more of a mess with trimmings. So far I have found that the trimmings left over tend to be less with the mulched, but I have only done a few mows with this setup. So far though it shows positive results and not throwing grass trimmings into my mulched beds too. I agree with wet grass mulching tends to leave more junk behind, but I try not to mow super wet stuff. I do have a thatcher though as well that I planned to do likely each spring.

      How are they throwaways? Dealers sell these too. Lol
      I’ve been driving it the same way for over 4 years now. It’s gotta have 80 hours on it by now. No issues.
      How could I be any more gentle? Idling down before I engage and disengage? If so, that is not realistic. This is a belt driven system. My guess is the belt would snap first before spindle issues

    Are those mulching blades?

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance  Před 5 lety

      WV591 technically not really. But I just posted a video of them with a mulching plug doing gal cleanup of quite a bit of leaves to clear up any confusion. I been mulching with them for a couple months now and they do very well setup that way in my opinion

    The Gartor Blades , G6 esp. Need more HP to function properly. Your mower may be inadequate. JMO.

      jon fioravanti in regards to what? I never said I had a problem with the gator blades that I recall. I have plenty of power for them I would think. I have an 18hp mower.
      I now added a bagger setup and they seem to lift and bag very well too. Overall they seem great with side discharge, mulching and bagging as far as I can tell

    • @Rocky-xx2zg
      @Rocky-xx2zg Před 5 lety +1

      18Hp is marginal for those blades. JMO.

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance  Před 6 lety

      I never got back to making a follow up video unfortunately. My car stuff always takes priority over other stuff. I don't recall saying they were mulching blades, but I havent watched the video in awhile. Now since you edited the comment to make it a little nicer, I will say they do cut pretty well. They will chew up bigger stuff if you hit by accident without issue. I still kind of wish i went with more of a mulching blade and a plug as these tend to still throw the grass quite a bit more than other reviews made them seem. Some people they to plug and mulch and the manufacturer says they are not designed for that. I never claim to be a professional mower, so cut me some slack man. I just posted the video showing the install and showing a quick cut.

    All I really wanted to know was which side goes up!! But you never mentioned that Could only SEE that the Tag side of the blade goes up. However, Nice garage. Kewl Impact tools and a hot little yellow sports car in your new garage. Oh, BTW. Starting a Cold engine at HIGH RPM'S will only lessen the life of those rings, valves and carbon up your cylinder. Perhaps when you write the "Title" of your video next time, you will stay on point and tell us EXACTLY what we were searching for. Thanks for the effort. 🤢

    • @PMPerformance
      @PMPerformance  Před 3 lety

      It should be obvious which side goes up. I didn’t include that as I didn’t think it was needed.
      That being said, the serrations should point up. That’s what lifts the grass to chop it up finer.
      There is no issues with how I run my mower. You need to give choke to start and choke runs the idle high.
      My mower has almost 90 hours on it and runs perfectly fine.
