This song "Thank You" is one of my all-time favorites songs along with "Going To California" when I first heard it on "Zeppelin ll" album in1969. Love this song!!!! Love this group!!!!

My favorite slow Zeppelin tune. The poetry of this love song is pure magic. Jimmy's guitar work and John Paul on keys amazing.
Robert wrote this song for his wife and was the first song he wrote primarily himself (Jimmy wrote the whole "little drops of rain" segment and harmonizes with Robert on it). There was a bit of scandal however, previous to this track on the album, there is another song called What Is And What Should Never Be which Robert wrote about the affair he was having with his wife's sister. Years later, after Robert and his wife (Maureen) divorced, he would have a son with Maureen's sister (Shirley).
Apparently he was also in a relationship with Shirley before he went out with her sister Maureen. Shirley was the one who made him choose between her and his music and he chose music. The song 'Ten Years Gone' is said to be about her also.

I only recently learned that he got together an scv had a child with his wife's sister and was so disappointed that he got together w the sister not knowing much but just feeling like Maureen must have been heartbroken and felt betrayed? I really dont know hence the questioning.
I had a sister who hurt me once in a love triangle. I got out quick before I even knew about the affair. I decided alone with no extenuating circumstances that he wasn't good enough for me.
I'm still waiting for the Love of my Life. Not sure if it will ever happen.

Plant doesn't really talk about it but I once saw a comment purporting to be from Maureen's wider family, confirming about the Ten Years Gone back story. Plant, without naming her, does mention the past girlfriend who made him choose between music and her. Plant tends to reveal things in song. Black Country Woman seems to be about his wife. In that song she is angry and humiliates him in public by pouring beer over him. At the end of the song he acknowledges that he would be angry in her position, and says 'I know your sister too'. I think he was always torn between the 2 sisters because Shirley rejected him first and Maureen was on the rebound. Then the tragedy of losing their son must probably have put a great strain on his and Maureen's relationship, and I guess he sought comfort with Shirley again. He doesn't have the best record for keeping long term relationships but he and his wife maintain a friendship. He sang at her 70th birthday. There's a video of it on youtube somewhere. He still calls her 'my wife' when he refers to her, even though they are divorced. He said he would not get married again.

No disrespect towards the good music coming out today(and there is good music out there today), but so much of todays music just sounds like product, not music. Everything has become dumbed to the point that mediocrity is expected and praised, and the consumers of this product aren't even aware of it. But it's not there fault. You are helping your generation discover talented musicians making great music. You make me proud!
Led Zeppelin could play every music style and make it to s.th. special, so f.e. soul, blues, rock, folk, reggae, funk, jazz, samba, country .....

Totally disagree! Listen to Since I've Been Loving You live at Madison Square Garden and then compare that to the studio version. The studio version pales in comparison. Their especially bluesy numbers lend themselves to live performances.
