- UPDATED: And now for something completely different. Will it run? We get my dad's 1964 Formcar Formula V race car fired up for the first time ever! The 1600 single port VW engine sounds pretty healthy. Then we take it for the first test drive. I immediately find a problem.... watch to see what it is. What is your solution? The Formcar company founder started the Formula V spec class to have an affordable entry level race car class that about anyone could get into. The bare chassis and body kits sold for $995 during their whole time in business. The idea was: buy their chassis and a clapped out Beetle and you could pirate almost everything you needed for the build off of the Bug. These cars are still very popular today as they created one of the most competitive classes of racing, they look like early Indy cars, and car reach speeds over 120mph.

unfortunately i can't design my own chassis and i'm building a replica formcar

No, I sold the car before I did. I have never done it, but a few told me it was pretty easy.
I am guessing that the Porsche rear vent grill is worth more than the whole car
I =thought all the kits came with those. It is just cast aluminum.
@@easternhotrodder They could have but in 66 that probably wasn't a rare item. From the video it looks to me like a 356 Porsche vent grill which would think would have been cheap and available then as 65 was the end of the 356 run
I can only get a quick look at it in the video but on closer inspection I think it is probably just an aluminum grill.

@@easternhotrodder It is my opinion that the best drivers are in FV. You just cant make a mistake as without power you loose a lot of momentum. I have done some shock work for multiple FV National Champion Steve Oseth
