    From my experience teaching tons of students in 1-on-1 lessons, I have found some patterns that keep coming back again and again in worship guitar music.
    In this lesson I will cover:
    - Common open string voicings
    - Other common chords in the key of G Major
    - Suspended chord shapes
    - Small shapes for lead playing
    It doesn't matter if you want to use those chords at church, or if you are not a worship player at all, I think these chords are very useful for many applications.
    Thank you for watching!

    Wow! This is fascinating. I kinda wondered how worship guitarists got all of those beautiful full sounding chords. You mentioned Jimi Hendrix. I'll add to that and mention Prince. I remember during Purple Rain he used much of the same fretboard logic as you're demonstrating. Thank you. Thank the LORD for His Grace working in and through you.

    These are lovely chords Antoine, and I've used them a lot in my songwriting over the years. I'm not a worship guitarist though so wasn't aware of the connection. I learnt these chords listening to Alex Lifeson. He uses these voicings on many Rush songs.

    On point #2 with the unmoving pinky and ring fingers, a classic example is the intro to Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Walking around Em7, G, and A7sus4 chords, and it's the backdrop for the lead solos too. Solid lesson even if I'm not a worship player, thanks Antoine.

    1966. Religious people burn Beatles records, and preachers warn about that "devil music", Rock and Roll.
    2021 Religious people are lead in worship by electric guitarists, that have more power in the pedal board than all the Beatle guitars and amps combined.

    @wesleyfletcher7654 Před 3 lety

    This is great, but worship players wouldn’t play the entire neck. You’d get in the way of the piano, synth, and other guitars. Most worship guitar is played with either three notes or two, but rarely with 5 or 6.
    However you are correct in total, but not in application as you want to consider where the other instruments in the band are residing harmonically.

    • @jsirius94
      @jsirius94 Před 3 lety +1

      It depends on the make up of the worship team. Sometimes with only one electric voicings like this would work well.

    • @wesleyfletcher7654
      @wesleyfletcher7654 Před 3 lety

      @@jsirius94 maybe. But I’d argue that’s not the case if you have a bass player, pianist, and acoustic player. That’s a pretty common band. Throw in tracks, which are increasingly common and the times when you’re playing rhythm solo are very rare.

    • @jsirius94
      @jsirius94 Před 3 lety

      @@wesleyfletcher7654 fair enough, but in instances where you could use a full electric these all would work. And as chord concepts these are all spot on, most of the voicings demonstrated would be something I'd play on the acoustic rather than electric.

    • @wesleyfletcher7654
      @wesleyfletcher7654 Před 3 lety

      @@jsirius94 100% agree, and I said that in my original comment. He’s not wrong and there’s good info here. I’m not trying to be a troll. I’m trying to point out that you need to be aware of the entirety of the band situation and what others are playing.

    • @jsirius94
      @jsirius94 Před 3 lety +1

      @@wesleyfletcher7654 that is still my biggest focus for growth as a player. Knowing where you fit in the overall picture of a song is the number 1 thing I emphasize to new players on a worship team. The only constant in worship teams I've been a part of in the past is that we never had a consistent instrument make up, so what ground you had to cover varied from week to week

  • @SuperEdge67

    They’re not worship chords…..they’re guitar chords. The whole concept of worship music is just bizarre.

  • @joehillary6981
    @joehillary6981 Před 2 lety

    Good teaching, much appreciated. But is it necessary to call it worship guitar? It's better to just leave the instrument's name alone and refer to the genre as worship/gospel, jazz, classical, and what have you. Otherwise may as well call all the other instruments with the worship prefix e.g. worship drums, worship piano, worship bass, worship triangle??!! See how ridiculous that sounds? A real musician will embrace all genres. Labeling the guitar itself as "worship" is wrong.

  • @jimicunningable

    If I play worship chords, will Yaweh come and condemn most of Humanity to Eternal Torture, as promised in Revelations? Great stuff guys. Keep up that "love".
