Love it when black metal clicks for people. It takes time but nothing else rides that line of magic, melancholy, violence, hatred and fury in the same way.

the riff at 7:27 still to this day imo is the most melodic delicious atmospheric riff in Black Metal. Top 3 at least and honestly Taake might have the other two lol

All in all probably my favorite black metal band.
Love how melodic and atmospheric they are, all while maintaining tons of energy and immediacy. Especially in those first 3 albums they released; all of which are modern masterpieces IMO.
It's all pretty much 1 guy (goes by the name 'Hoest' and is seen on all of the album covers) that writes and records all the instruments and vocals and everything, but he gets a bunch of session musicians to go on tour with him. Guy is a total badass and IMO he hasn't made a single bad album since he started back in the 90s.

That huge smile on your face at the end of this track, to me, completely reflects everything that makes black metal so wonderful, and while they may not be the most revered-as-classic band out there, I do think Taake, especially on those first three albums, stand as the absolute pinnacle of the genre. A wonderfully romantic mix of triumph, power, sorrow, and grief that can't really be found anywhere else in music.

    • @_bats_
      @_bats_ Před 3 lety +2

(I think their first album is even better, mostly because the guy he had as session drummer, bassist, and backing vocals brought a little extra magic. This third album is just as good in the songwriting department, though. For newcomers to the band or black metal in general, the first track on the debut, "Vid I" is a great starting point, but since you've already listened to a bunch of black metal and this song, maybe you could go straight to the majestic "Vid VII".)

Probably late to the party here, but it's pronounced "T[eau]ke" (with vowel as in 'John'), and the song is Hordaland (county in Norway) Doedskvad (meaning 'poem of death'), with the "oe" being an old (19th century) way of writing the letter Ø (pronounced like a French 'eu', as in 'Mr. Burns'). Great band from Bergen, good friend with the bass player Ørjan (who also plays in Helheim). The lyrics are a bit out there though.

Taake is one of the greatest and unique BM bands and I love when people not familiar with the genre JUST GET IT, as you do. You describe what the music communicates emotionally just perfectly, too! In fact, I grew up with this music and couldn't have put it into any more succinct words. What I'm saying is an outsider's perspective is very refreshing to hear. By the way, I can tell you're hooked by the magic now, enjoy!

the famous guitar riffs that snorre blackthorn rush pioneered. as a canadian i traveled alone to norway in 2018 to visit and also because i love black metal so much. i have been to most of the famous black metal places in norway. i rented a car and drove 3500km across norway. i have been to 35 countries and norway is by far the most beautiful place i have ever seen. it is majestic. and it is not a cliché or a rumour, yes norwegians are tall asf. at 5,9 many girls were my height. i have had some pretty cool discussions with many people over there. norwegians are very nice, but they are not talkative like me. my french canadian latin blood is a bit too hot for them ah ah. norway is awesome. but holy shit it is expensive. it cost me 15k for a month. a minuscule hotel room will cost you 350-to 400 bucks in oslo and they d'ont have ac nowhere even if it is 33 celcius in july. in stavanger it was 16 celcius. temperature is very good in the fjords. i met a girl at the hotel in stavanger, holy hell she was hot and nice.

Taake are masters of their own, they have really really good material overall, and even some good covers of songs of other bands...
It's been a while since I listened to anything of theirs, but I'm sure someone in the comments will recommend another great song, they have legit masterpieces.
If you want to keep going in the direction of Atmospheric Black Metal you could try with Windir - Todeswaltz, they have cool elements of folk too, a band somewhat similar to Taake.
As for evil.... I shouldn't but I'm gonna recommend Dark Throne - Crossing The Triangle Of Flames. I think there's nothing more raw, cold, dark, and evil than this. It's a hard pill to swallow though, so keeo in mind it won't appeal at first glance.

Yeah man, definitely shout out to your Patron kyle for this pick! :P I've been listening this shit forever and I'm so fucking glad you have reached it too! And it's even more cool, that you feel it! :P It's pretty much as you said, that it's hard to reach people to like or even understand this kinda stuff, if they don't have anything to do with it...! I could say about you after seeing your reactions for some time now with other kinda metal, that it's very possible you to embrace this kinda music and I'm so damn glad that you do so! :P
You asked about other Taake songs, so I can add one song per album here (I will add links too, which should be the ones you listen/react, so you don't get so much shit from viewers by picking crappy versions! ;) :D I go album after album in a chronological order (minus the 3rd album, which is this one you just reacted!) So this is kinda, if you'd had to hear only one song per album, so these would be my choises to you! ;)
Nattestid ser porten vid VII (czcams.com/video/L1sWywOYa_I/video.html)
Over Bjoergvin graater himmerik VI (czcams.com/video/7mo_kFG4K9o/video.html)
PS. songs "Motpol" and "Nordbundet" aren't actually the album versions, but from the ep called "Kulde". I choosed those, because they're recorded live with the band in their rehearsal place/studio and has more "live" feel in it and still the sound is great and not like "crappy live sound"! The "Ubeseiret" song is one of the latest tracks of the band released as a single and a split and I think it's so strange and groovy, and still black metal over all, so I believe you enjoy it too! ;) Feel free to listen these songs wether you react to them online or by yourself, I believe it's gointo be a good treat to you for sure!
Keep up the good work, and thanks for the Transilvanian Hunger reaction as well! :P I'm pretty sure they recorded the instruments separately, eventhough it sounded like everything is recorded at the same time with one take with a casette player! :D They really concentrated to the sound and the feel, that it's cold and eerie and devastating but still you can catch the song with no problem! And that's why the whole music style exploded everywhere back when it was released! Kinda funny, that their first album was like death metal, since they're mainly known as this black metal band and transilvanian hunder is their most know song! If you want to listen their first album, I recommend to take this track (czcams.com/video/QAEh3Jbr7Sk/video.html) as an example, how they were, before they turned to that, what you just listened! ;) Yeah, take care, I will wait new reactions for you for sure! Have a blast one! ;)
