    It’s time to stop scruffing them now. This can induce stress and restrict their airways. Use two hands instead and support their bottoms when picking them up.

    They really need enrichment. Toys and some sort of hiding place with cushions or blankets. That's why she keeps moving them. They need a cosy place to sleep and a climbing structure with some toys

    • @sortathesame8701
      @sortathesame8701 Pƙed 4 lety +29

      No, they really don't. Right now they just need to socialize with their siblings and their mother. Joey can use toys to play with them, but toys shouldn't be left in their enclosure with them. They will just tear them up and possibly eat parts of a toy. Plus they would rapidly grow tired of toys if they had them all the time.

    *JOEY! PLEASE READ THESE TIPS* FOR THE KITTENS' *SAFETY AND HAPPINESS*:
    1. USE NON-CLUMPING LITTER. AT this age clumping litter is dangerous because they explore with their mouths so it could clog their intestines. Turn off Sakura's litter box to avoid any possible accidents and clean it manually or come once a day to activate it and then deactivate it.
    2. You are also going to need 8 litter boxes (number of kittens +1). They can be 7 little boxes since sakura has her own. The box must be twice as big as each kitten. This is because cats don't like to share because they're really clean, and not having enough litter boxes might lead to them just refusing to go in another cat's box and just going anywhere. As you said their instincts kick in, so they used the one you put, but you have to think in advance, which is why more boxes will be needed.
    3. The open pen worked well with the puppies, but not for kittens, they need to have a covered space within this pen, or else, Sakura will just move them again.
    4. They are in their fourth week, which means it's time to introduce them to play, with toys they can "hunt". Don't use laser pointers. You need to keep them active, but eventually, let them "hunt" they toy so they feel satisfied and not frustrated.
    5. To avoid having them scratch the bedside and the mat, place one or two small scratching posts in the area they are in.
    6. Joey, I beg you, please check out KittenLady on youtube. She has amazing tips and she could solve all of your questions that you've been asking in the vlogs about raising kittens. It wouldn't take that long and she's pretty reliable. Check out her tips for litter training: czcams.com/video/EKe0otXH3Ck/video.html

    I have seen many other comments saying what I’m about to say but I am going to repeat it in hopes that you see this one:
    People I found the information from:
    M Spears & Bobo Buddy the Senior Cat | Virgo Marie | Alice Aspegren | kathy mik | milk
    do NOT use clumping or scented litter. The cats are at the age where they explore by tasting not just smelling or waking around. Clumping litter can be very dangerous as it can clog their intestines
    Stop holding them by their neck. When the kittens were younger it was ok to scruff them but as they get older it will start to be painful for them. It is recommended to hold them normally with both hands since that provides the most support for them
    Add a bed or some blankets. It’s most likely that Sakura moved them because she thought that they were uncomfortable and needed warmth. Go ahead and add the bed that Gemini loves so much and maybe even the blue tent. Sakura will most likely move them, or the kittens will climb by themselves to a warmer area ( the couch )
    Add some toys! The kittens should have already received toys about a week ago when they started to become more playful. It is better to play with them with toys instead of your hands. If you continue to play with them with your hands they will learn to attack people’s hands
    Extra tips: turn off the electronic kitty litter box if you ever leave them outside of the pen. They could easily get stuck in it and get hurt
    Extra tip: Play with their little paws and touch their paw pads. This will make it easier to trim their nails when they are older
    Extra tip: the floppy sleeping that Aries was doing is very common. Especially with young kittens. It’s just then going into a deep sleep. Very common so do not be alarmed the next time that happens
    Also watch Kitten Lady for some extra tip on taking care of kittens

      We’ve had the best luck with kiln dried pine pellets from the tack and feed store. It’s much better health wise for kittens and cats, handles the odor issues better than even the highest quality fragranced litter, and costs so much less it’s insane. We have 9 adult fosters and only use 1/2-3/4 a bag a month and a 40 pound bag is less than $7. It must be kiln dried or put through a process to eliminate the pine oil because pine oil is toxic. Don’t bother with feline pine because it’s garbage compared to what you get from the tractor supply store and is so much more expensive.

    Joey hii~ I have a lot of knowledge on cats and just wanted to let you know a few things ♄ First of all you've been doing a good job with them, just some nitpicky stuff
    -It was ok to lift them by their neck skin when they were younger but you should start lifting them the normal way now. The mother cat only does it because she can't lift them the other way. You can offer them more support with two hands and that's always the recommended way to lift a cat, even a kitten. The older they get the more harmful and painful it will be for them.
    -And based on that, Sakura most likely didn't even bring them up to the couch corner to sleep, they can walk now so they climbed up by themselves. I suggest putting a bed into their area so they don't climb up to sleep there again. Cats like sleeping in tight spaces because it makes them feel safe so offer them that ♄
    -And when you bring in toys (which yes, please do!) make sure they're sturdy and take them away if they fall apart. You don't want any choking hazards. Cats are generally very smart but still, better safe than sorry
    -The floppy sleeping is common so don't get scared when it happens. They go into deep sleep and it's something that they do a lot more as kittens. Adult cats do it too but not nearly as often and they wake up easier
    -Also, I recommend handling their paws a lot at a young age so cutting nails will be easier when they grow older. Just hold them, play with them, many cats actually like when you massage the beans when they're in a rested mood

    • @kristen58
      @kristen58 Pƙed 4 lety +24

      All good suggestions! And if Joey's excuse for scruffing is that he's holding a camera in one hand, it's a bad excuse, because they're still small enough he can get one hand under their stomach and easily lift them up. I mean, I pick up 8 lb pomeranians with one hand, he can do a tiny kitten!

    • @markelley9710
      @markelley9710 Pƙed 4 lety +10

      @itsmeanis Because the nails will get too long, and the cat will start to scratch stuff, especially on scratching posts in an attempt to file them down. For example, why do we humans cut our nails? It’s so they don’t get too long to the point where it causes us inconvenience and discomfort. It’s a hygienic routine.

      Cats never get too big for that. Without other support, yes, but they’d have to be a lot heavier than what they are now.
      I have a cat at around 4.4kgs and if I wanted to, she would let me hold her neck without any extra support. My old cat wouldn’t let me do that even with support (we think she was sold younger than allowed), so I think the extra “training” of them relaxing is a good thing so that it’ll stay with them later on.

      Time+space=perspective It's totally fine! It's how mama picks them up :) if they're in pain, they'd let you know. From my experience, it is safe to scruff a kitten just until they are about 6 weeks old, it will depend on the kitten's weight tho. If you can do it properly, it's totally harmless. If they do grow bigger and heavier, it's still best to support their bottom while scruffing them â˜ș

    I'm stressed out about the electric litter box!
    They WILL find their way into that sooner rather than later and I'm scared that if there are more than one kitten inside and one leaves, the sensor will think the cat has left and start rotating and the kitten still inside will loose its balance and wont be able to escape. and I'm pretty sure the poop compartment is sealed with rubber to reduce smell so if a kitten gets trapped in there it might suffocate. Or the rotation could hurt it in some other way.. I'm worried and i've seen many people comment the same thing.. I just wanted to make sure you've thought of that..
    I've also seen a lot of people saying how dangerous clumping or scented litter is for kittens as they might ingest it and it will clog their intestines.. that was very important for me to tell you as well.

      It may have a setting where you have to press the button for each rotation but if there is I couldn't find the info on their website and I re-watched the video too and I didn't hear him saying anything about having to press the button each time. Just that he presses the button to force a rotation to show the others and to start the first rotation when it's turned on.

    1. Stop lifting them from the scruff, it starts to hurt them when they weigh more. Even the mom doesn't lift them just by the skin and she can't do it any other way in any case. You need to start supporting them by the butt when holding them.
    2. No clumping litter for the kittens! They can eat it (like human babies they put everything in their mouth) and it can cause blockage of the bowl.
    3. Cats are clean animals, they don't want to be enclosed in such a small space with their litter box.
    4. Spay the mom and she won't scream that much and annoy you.
    5. Give them toys and start giving them food. They are really playfull at this age and have nothing to play with.

    Joey, I have some tips! 😌 and trust my tips, I've had 12 cats in the past, and I have 2 rn.
    1: hold the butt and keep them close to your chest when carrying them, don't scruff them, their to old for that.
    2: Mama cats will move their kittens if they don't feel their safe, here's how I'd prevent that;
    ‱ Don't bother the kittens as much
    ‱ Keep kittens close to mom
    ‱ Gain moms trust (Pet her, feed her, make her feel at home)
    ‱ Try and train them with mama, and maybe even let her train them.
    3: kittens need special litter and food, I suggest this;
    ‱ wet food
    ‱ mixed wet and dry
    ‱ little less wet mixed with dry
    ‱ dry food
    , This way the kittens will get used to dry food
    4: If kittens paw you when your cuddling, it's comfort for them, that's how they got milk from mom.
    5: let them fight, I've learned over the years that cats play fight, same goes for dogs,
    This train's them for if they ever get outside and something goes wrong.
    Hope this helped!

They're at the age they can play properly with toys, and also please turn off Sakuras litter box because when and if they get in there, they're too small for it to detect them and they could get hurt. You should set up a camera in their pen so you can see everything that’s going on while you aren’t around!
