    I'm liking this substance, but the oddest thing is that the shellac we use is a thick black liquid that seals off seams in an engine.

      As stated, non vegan, because bug is animal. Lacquer is shellac dissolved in alcohol, yes.

      It is a by product that is not reused by the bugs, however you will find that a lot of insects and eggs get killed when it is harvested.

    The Name shellack comes from indian origin word "Lakh" which means 100,000 referring to the many number of small insects involved in making it. Theft is real.
