In this lesson, I'll show you 5 blues guitar "turnarounds" which you can use immediately in your fingerstyle playing.
The important thing to realize is that they are based on LINES, not chords.
Enjoy!

Long time viewer and you are TOP HAT! Thanks for your arrangements and tutorials. You make the music world a better place. I keep on Jammin because of instructors like you. God bless all that you do. Marc Calder/Nashville
Wow, thanks!
Thanx adam god bless brother
Amo il tuo stile. Great
Thank you so much 😊
GREAT TEACHER THANKS
Thank you!
Nice! #4 sounds kinda gospel- cool
can you make a lesson teaching your awesome opening guitar demonstration
You ALWAYS have so much fun... So much joy in playing... I'm gettin there...
Rock on!
Reminds me of when I was a little kid in the 60's; practicing licks like these. It seemed back then, that the Brits had just discovered blues. For example, I had this cheap blues album with jimmy page, eric clapton, and jeff beck. It was all instrumentals that they had put together(really corny) using the same turnarounds without much variation on each song. I bet they look back and laugh at that album now.
Love those turnarounds, Adam! Thank you!
This is valuable to me. Thank you Adam.
Awesome lesson Adam!
Thanks, Adam! I love the way you teach. So Rick is playing this upstairs and I'm playing downstairs. Great lesson!
Excellent Debbie, tell Rick I said hi!
As always, great and very informative! Thank you very much!
Thank you!
Thankyou Adam. I have never thanked you but I've been learning from you for couple of years or lil more than that.
You are welcome Sandeesh!
Great intro lesson, thanks for sharing your time and knowledge! Such a great guitarist and kind soul. Cheers from Canada, jz. Ps the extra walking bass in the intro was super slick!
Thanks & groove on! 😊
Great Lesson Adam - clear and clean
Thanks!
Very helpful! Especially liked the concepts of "Lines not chords" and contrary motion - two interesting ways to think about articulating the notes in these turnarounds to make them more interesting.
Thank you!
Great job, Adam. Very helpful.......
Glad you enjoyed it!
You're not only great guitarist also great tutor, thank you very much
Thanks Viktor!
Great lesson. Crystal clear and the attention to detail was impressive (although your playing made that fairly obvious already!)
Thank you!
I love your playing!!
Thanks Olli! I love your axes! A new student of mone - Arno - has one. Do you recognize that name?
Yes, he got his guitar just before last christmas. I didn't knew that he is your student. Say hello for me and thanks for your nice response. It makes me happy😊
Was wondering what you were up to. Thought you might have run away and joined the circus! Good lesson man! Looking forward to the next one.
I'm still here!
Hey, thanks Adam ... great presentation and a great way to spend a Chilly Friday. Maybe sometime you could talk (if you haven't already) about your right hand technique. I tend to anchor/ stabilize my right hand by placing the heel of my hand on the bridge but I notice you play considerably forward of that and stabilize you right hand with your thumb. Thanks again. Stay safe.
It's only as of the last few years. It's simple actually - with no nails, I have to get sound out of the strings a lot like an electric bassist. I had to practice so that the wrist is not tight - even though there is an arch. I am still never satisfied with my tone, I wish now it would "cut" more but I like the groove with the bare fingers...THANK YOU for watching!
I hear you about searching for the tone you hear in your head. I also play with my finger tips (I hate the sound and feel of my nails). I grew up admiring the tone that Jeff Beck could get with just his fingers so I rarely use a pick now. My personal search for acoustic tone lead me to have Martin build me a 0000-18 12 fret with slotted headstock, Sitka top and Mahogany back and sides. I just received it from the Custom Shop a few weeks back and I love it, the slightly larger body size, 12 fret combined with mahogany did the trick for me. Love your playing. Stay safe.
hello what gauge strings on your maton cheers
Hello! Which kind of strings you use on your maton?
Martin SP .012
🙂
Thanks Adam! However, one little drawback with the free PDF file: All notes are written in TAB format.... I'm from a classical background, and know how to read music sheet. You should also offer regular notation alongside TAB notation. That's one reason, I will not use the file, as I don't want to go back to 'kindergarden' 😊
Do you have difficulties to this kindergarten blues lesson as a better degree guitar player?
Jackie, I hear you. I actually wrote this in standard notation, but due to limited space I go with what 90% of my followers want. Most of them do not read standard notation. What I'd lie for you to do is "up YOUR game" - :-). Do this be EAR in 12 keys. It's blues, and this was all originally taught by ear, in clubs, and playing on the porch - not in notation, in a school setting. Go for it!
@@adamrafferty Got you! and thanks for the tip! 👍
@@victoriussasmita7612: As I said, I'm from a classical background (+40 yrs of hard training), so it's even harder for me "not" to read music sheet 😊 I'm just diving my toe in the big blues pond! So, I had to ask Adam, among one of the greatest guitar players today! 😁
If you like, send me an email and I will send you the sheet with notation...
Great lesson Adam !
Thank you Amanre! 😊
