    I had this Yale Nest lock for at least a year. So many times I couldn’t get it to connect to Nest Connect. The last time it just wouldn’t connect, so I’m done with it. I bought the Yale Assure lock. It set up fairly easy although not on the first try, and so far after 2 months it’s not failed me. I especially like it opening the door when I arrive home. I hope to continue having good luck with this lock.

    Also at first I hated having to hit the check after code unlike the Schlage I had prior but I realized people cannot guess the length of your code this way. With the Schlage all codes had to be the same length and after you enters 4 numbers the lock would error out telling someone your code is 4 digits long.
    I know it is rare for someone to guess the code but still, now they have no idea if it is 4, 6, or 8 numbers long.

    • @SmartHomeSolver
      @SmartHomeSolver  Pƙed 6 lety +3

      That's true it's more secure not knowing the code length. I would just prefer the check mark to be optional after the correct code is pressed, that way it could still not give away how long the code is. Not a big deal, I'm just being nitpicky.

    I had Geek Squad install my lock after Purchased. I worked fine but when the tech left, is when I began to have problems with the lock. It would not lock at times, and I got warnings that the communication between the lock and the WiFi hub. The two was only 4 ft apart, so that was a mistry. At times it would push the Plunger in all the way without any resistance, but other times it would have difficulty pushing it in all the way. I think that if there is the least bit of alignment with your door
.you will have a problem with this Lock!
    Still I would recomend it, it’s a great item when it’s working correctly.

    Just an FYI, I installed this lock in May of 2018. It works as advertised however it frequently loses connection with the nest connect and it requires a reset of the connect device and a reset of the lock as well. Although a reset fixes the disconnect it happens too frequently and resetting the lock requires disassembly of the door lock to access the reset button. Since May I have had to reset this device no less than three times. That is three disassembly's of the lock and it is not trivial.

      @@TheAzntoyhere Yes I thought so too. I have tried experimenting with it by turning off the WiFi altogether for a period of time and turning it back on again. The lock stayed steadfast and remained married. So I am not sure if the WiFi signal is to blame. What I have noticed is that the nest connect simply forgets the Yale device. On one other occasion the nest connect was not detectable by the nest application. So I am leaning toward the connect as the problem with a likely intermittent memory reset issue.

    Is Nest Connect a ‘hub’ or service? If so is there any locks that just work with WiFi and app? Same app as Nest thermostat? Thanks for sharing!

      Nest Connect is like a small hub. There are actually some locks coming out that just work with Wi-Fi. Schalge Encode just announced one at CES. I tried it out at CES and I really like it. Check it out here czcams.com/video/ZnfZYRrysDE/video.html

    I just built my brand new house and I installed the Yale door bell and it didn't work.. it kept saying it got jammed and that it was pushing the lock the other way and not locking and saying it was jammed.. so I threw it away... not a good product for me..

    This is a great video, but oh my god do I hate this lock. It’s the least reliable smart home thing in our house. Google is a software company that doesn’t understand that some hardware products just need to work all the time.
    But still a great video!
