Great video. I appreciate the background info on trophy bonded tips.
Thank you!
That was an excellent display using the right powder for that gun and cartridge. Great video!
Thank you!
Really like your content… I find it very relatable 😊
@@CircleBrewery awesome, thanks!
Great video 👍🏻
Thank you!
TBT is my fav . Took my biggest buck at 100 yards with it . Only shot I had was right in the hind quarter . It went in broke the hip and socket went up through everything and lodged in the opposite front quarter . Awesome Awesome bullet . Was with a 30-06 180g tbt
Right on, thanks!
Few dare to shoot up the tail. But if you know and thrust the bullet it'll do the job. I never hestitated to do it with a 30-30. 170 grns at slow speed would do the same as yours. no over expantion.👍
Have taken 2 Caribou, 4 moose with 180 trophy bonded bear claws. 300 WBY at 3150fps. Longest shot was a moose at 220y. Closest was Caribou at 10y. Have recovered a few bullets under the hide. They get pretty wide when expanded. Great hunting bullet.
Fantastic! Thanks
Nice, like you said - it all just works. The 180 TBT has a BC of .500 with a 1600fps min velocity vs the 175 Terminal Ascent with a BC of .520 and min velocity of 1400fps. The TBT is a great bullet and less expensive.
It’s hard to beat
Thanks for the extra info
Love the 30-06! America’s cartridge🙌 those terminals are great and accurate in most of my hunting rifles but you have to get it loaded up, have not seen any bullets only for sale online or otherwise!
I appreciate the comment
Lots of room with the 30-06 and yes you can push them. I bet you could go higher.
I’d say your right
With AA3100 I could get 2900 plus with a 190gr match with a 26 " barrel..
Time for seating depth test. Got a 30-06 AI its being built at my gunsmith. Hope to get it back next month
Awesome!
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
Great bullets for a wide variety of game, have taken elk and deer with them so far, 165, 180 30 cal in 30-06 and 300 win mag, 200 in 338 cal from my 340 weatherby, also have a couple of boxes of the edge tlr, prerunner to the accent, 30 cal 175, I've never had any pressure issues loading the 06 and I've loaded and shot more than a few rounds through multiple rifles
Awesome! Thanks
Good video! Always love 30-06 stuff! The reason federal showed RL powder is because that under the same company. How many terminal you looking for? What grain you looking for?
Looks good. Manuals tend to vary widely on charge weights with many bullets. It does seem to have more room to go with a good # of powders with some manuals.
The /06 of course isn't alone in this area. I do understand what you are describing. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Used the 165 gr (.308 win) on my Moose Hunt last year. Recovered 1 bullet on the far side under the skin, and it had expanded as advertised.
Awesome, thanks!
Great video as normal
I appreciate it, Tom.
180’s out of my 308 have worked flawlessly on deer, elk, and bear.
Sweet!
I'm looking forward to trying the tipped fusion that was recently announced. Hoping for accubond performance without the price tag
Me too!
Great. I love that combo. I so wish that I could find some 165-180 TBT bullets for my father's old .06 . It shoots accubond lights out but the trophy bonded is a much better bullet in my opinion. Has killed the best in my experience. Great video keep them coming. Thanks
Thanks, I appreciate it
Awesome video thanks for all your hard work since watching your last few videos. I’m going to pull out my old Remington 700 in 30-06 and work up a reload for it it you got a good recipe for it let me know I’ll try it
Thank you! I’ve shot several 30-06 loads in my Rifles, Reloading, and the Range series playlist…. and many more to come. Good luck to you.
Those are my favorites too. Waiting to work up a load in 7mm-08 with StaBall 6.5 and 160 grainers. I"m worried about the length of these bullets. They go down a lot in the case. I love your idea of loading one at different charges to see if pressure is OK. That's what I plan to do. Like you I don't have published loads for this combo so I'm looking at starting charges with Barnes bullets and 175 lead core bullets and go from there.
Good luck to you!
I use 162 interlocks in mine. I think they are going around 2600 if I remember right.
Used the terminal ascent in my 270win. I feel into a pile of Winchester power point and Terminal Ascent bullets. Enough to hunt with for a life
I’m glad to hear it. 👍🏻
Hope federal doesn't stop making the TBT because of the Terminal Ascent love both best bullets out there to me but TBT usually group better for me
Me too, I love both
I'm presently working up 30-06 150's with Accubond, Scirocco, and TTSX. Haven't found a powder yet that works anywhere near as well as RL17. Getting 2950 @57G with absolutely no signs of pressure. You make a good point about the pressure signs. Think I still have room but why? It's plenty fast enough, just want to finish some seating depth tests. I've heard the negativity on the temperature stability. It was darn near 60 hete today up north and thats way warmer than hunting season. So if you can find some 17, try it.
I appreciate the advice, thanks!
I was going to say Try h414 or varget but you achieved the velocity you were looking for 😮
I’m sure you could do better, but I’m happy.
Really Starting , to appreciate your videos. I have no experience with the thirty odd .
six. 8mm man myself 😅
Thank you for watching
Many rifles in 30-06 have a very long throat, especially older ones. That, along with generally very conservative loading data can make reaching max pressure in the '06 difficult. If you look at Vihtavuori's website and examine the load data for the 30-06 using N560 you will find some very impressive velocities, especially 180 grain bullets - give or take 10 grains. Those velocities are spot on for a 24 inch barrel according to my Labradar, but the best part is how accurate those loads are with N560. These are definitely max pressure loads, so don't exceed them. These are the highest velocity loads I have used in 30-06 AND among the most accurate. N560 is #1 in my 30i-06.
2850 fps is easily achieved with 180 grain bullets, along with excellent accuracy. Not sure how lighter bullets would work with N560, as I always use 180's or heavier.
Great information, thanks!
you guys new to reloading and shooting, you should get the book: Ken Waters; Pet Loads, it's a comprehensive manual covering nearly every cartridge when it was written.
Regarding pressure, it depends on how it's chambered as well as barrel quality. Example, My first 30-06 build had a button rifled PacNor barrel but was chambered with a match reamer specifically for my batch of Lapua brass. (By the way, it's pronounced LA pwAh). Most mericans say luh-poo-wuh. Anyway, I reached pressure signs at or just before most published data loading guides, which, in 34 years of loading, was very unusual. In almost all cases and by now, likely over 55 rifles (including original factory configurations later converted to builds with my chosen components), I'm able to go over, and sometimes way over, what a published guide has as their tested max load. That 30-06 now wears a Brux barrel. With the PacNor barrel I had an excellent load with 168 Barnes TTSX over Reloder 19. That ammo shoots ok in the new barrel, about 3/4" and about the same and up to one inch in 3 factory Tikka T3x Hunters. I have yet to clock these loads in any of the four 30-06 rifles I currently own but plan to.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@hopefulballistics thank you for the videos!
For what it is worth Randy Selby agrees with you on old cartridges being more capable then originally thought and on which hunting bullets are best.
@@rosswitte I appreciate it
Unless your shooting elk and moose i stay way from bonded in my 30-06's. They sail right theough deer like FMJs on a broadside heart and lung shot. A plain old boring core loct causes more shock for drop in its tracks performance. A 180 grain ballistic tip is the hammer of thor on deer as well.
Cup and core bullets have killed countless deer. 👍🏻
Completely false....TBT open down to 1600fps meaning at higher velocities they expand pretty quick. Yes you will see more pass throughs but the damage has been done. Nothing even close to a fmj
To your question on pressure. You said you had some throat erosion. That would account for a lower pressure spike. The pressure usually spikes right as the bullet hits the lands which usually occurs while the tail of the bullet is still in the case. The further the bullet has to move before it hits the lands the more room there is in the case at max pressure. Which will reduce max pressure. It's basically like your shooting a longer case with the same load data. Like using 30-06 load data in a 30-06 AI. That's my two cents. 😅
I think you’re right, thanks
Ok, pretty good video….. you know what’s the minimum need velocity to get this bullet to expand reliably? I would imagine they need speed.
Cool your uncle gave you that gun. I’d leave it alone too.
Keep ur vids coming…….
Off hand I’m guessing 1800, but I’m not 100%. Thank you!
1600 fps
👍 other one was fail safe by Winchester
Thanks!
Good luck finding those projectiles. I’m so pissed right now about ammo, components and manufacturing in America. I don’t know if it politics or what, but it seems that Hornady is the only ones trying to feed us.
Nice. That combo will handle anything in North America; regardless of what the ft lbs police say.
I agree
🤷♂️ Your Observations Are Correct, But Where Should I Begin? Both the Americans and Germans Spent Alot of Time and Money Testing Military Cartridge Designs! The 30-06 is Not Overbore (Has a Long Barrel Life - Upwards of 5,000 Shots, If You Care For Your Rifle, and 3,500 Shots If You Don't), Has a "Balanced" Case Powder Capacity to Case Hole Exit Diameter and Dimensions That Allows It To Work Well With A Variety of Powders, Feeds Flawlessly, Allows Great Performance While Maximizing Magazine Capacity, Tolerable Recoil For The Average Shooter, and Has More For Caliber Bullet Options Than Any Other Caliber, etc...Simply Put, They Didn't Need To Change Anything Between The 1st and 2nd World Wars, Because It Worked! And, Mabey They Still Don't! 😜
Well said Ron!
Thanks...😳@@hopefulballistics
Its a flat awesome bullet!!!!
FLIPIN EXPENSIVE TOO!!!
But IMHO THE BEST MADE TODAY. ❤❤
Yes to both, thanks
wow I have some good info to share but it seems that the post does not show up . sorry for your luck it really is good info.........
What post?
exactly I Wrote 2 comments one after the other both were about a paragraph long about where to get the reloading manual for these bullets and to share my load that I have and it does not show at all@@hopefulballistics
@@slaelkhunter really? That’s weird
It is what it is. Would love to get you this info. Just don’t know how ☹️
@@slaelkhunter my email is in the description
Reloader powder is good but at 95.00 dollars a pound there is other powder that will work
True
You need to try some animal testing with that bullet come hunting season.
Absolutely!
Each gun is different. My 7400 in 06 will print less than an inch with IMR4064 and 168gr SMK. It does show pressure signs @ 47 grs. BigGame or IMR4350 with 175gr SMK will do the same. This gun has a sloppy chamber. It will still shoot.
True, they’re all different
Im not inpresed by 140 grs tbt in my 7x65 R Brenekee. They do the yob,but they always broke apart. If you finde some jacket,👍 I found several bullets but it was onley the shank or rear portion off bullet. About 50-60 percent of weight. The tbt is not advirteist like that. The cooper shank is everything that this bullet is going to give you. Nosler parrition is ohhhooo better bullet on my opinion. It is onley my opinion!!!sorry on my english writening 😊😊
I appreciate your perspective, thanks.
I know where you can get more 180gr tbts let me know if You're interested. I have a contact for them, and other sometimes hard to get projectiles
I am interested. Email me if you can. It’s in the description of the video.
🤠 I Would Encourage You To Watch a Video By Little Crow Gunworks (Made 1 Week Ago) Called "7mm Showdown - Part 1 - Laying the Foundation"! I Recently Turned Austin Onto This Channel! If You Go To Minute 28 And Begin Watching, He Talks About "BALLISTICS MARKETING FOR SUCKERS" vs. The Importance of Using a Well Constructed Bullet For Hunting and Being Able to Read the Wind! Using The Applied Ballistics Calculator to 600 Yards, He Shows "HIT PROBABILITIES" of an 8" × 8" Target (Typical Kill Zone Size) and a 15 mph Wind While Looking At Variables of 1.) Bullet B.C. 2.) Bullet Velocity 3.) Load Stand Deviations 4.) And Barrel Accuracy and How Little of a Difference Each Makes in Achieving a Successful Shot Placement At That Distance! The Conclusions Are That Bullet Construction, Limiting Your Shooting Distance At Game Animals, and Reading the Wind Are The Most Important Variables To Being Successful At Filling Your Hunting Tag! I Would Encourage You To Pass This "Information" On To Others! 😜
I agree. I think the trophy bonded tip is a well constructed bullet.
On 10/29/23 I harvested a 600lb cow elk near my home in Montana. I was using the .300 WSM loaded with federal factory 180gr tbt ammo
The elk was at a ranged yardage of 425 yards, broadside. My son was calling my shots, took three shots behind the right front shoulder. Upon inspection, the first two shots exploded under the skin on top of the rib cage, third shot did penetrate into the chest cavity and exploded, no exit wound. I'm 72, have harvested numerous game animals, NEVER had bullet failure with Nosler/Hornady bullets....EVER. Beware of this product.
I appreciate it
I have money on "Things that did not happen for $500"
🕵️♂️ I Didn't Want to Say Anything Until I Tried To Confirm It First! My Hunting Buddy Shot a Buck Deer This Fall at 80 yards With a 180 grain Federal Trophy Bonded Tipped Bullet With His 30-06! The Bullet Was Put Exactly Where It Was Supposed To on a Broad Side Shot, Blew Up (Must Have Hit a Rib), Left a Softball Size Hole At the Point of Entry, and Never Exited! This May Be Why Federal Redesigned The Bullet and Came Out With the Federal Terminal Ascent? 🤷♂️ The Deer Died Instantly, But That Wouldn't Work Very Well On An Elk, Moose, or Bison! Mabey An Anamoly? But, I Was Disappointed! ☹
I’ve heard great things and bad things about every bullet. I wonder if it’s a lot to lot quality control issue.
It Seems To Me That Many of These Bullets Designed For Long Range Are Having Problems At Close Range! But, This Is One Bullet That I Really Thought Would Do Better At Closer Ranges? For Whatever Reason, It Didn't? 🤷♂@@hopefulballistics
I have never understood the "magic" some people see in those bullets. IMO, the Barnes TTSX & LRX are simply a better design. No more expenensive buy. A LOT more available to.handloaders. Just as accurate . Same B.C. numbers for a given weight .Great terminal peformance and NO LEAD contamination of your meat.
Your points are valid, but the thing I like is better expansion at slower speeds, yet still great penetration. Kind of a hybrid bonded/monolithic.
@@hopefulballistics I agree with you on the expansion particularly past 400 yards when the impact velocities get below 2k FPS.
To your question on pressure. You said you had some throat erosion. That would account for a lower pressure spike.
