A special horse with star quality, an inspiration to us all with his never say die attitude, well done dessie xx
Nupsala.... destroyed dessie in his prime..8yrold
Wot a horse he was that day
Nupsala,!!
Makes me cry 😢. What a legend
If ever the cheers of a crowd carried a horse home, it was the 1989 Gold Cup. A true legend in NH racing and privileged to have been around to watch him ❤️
Great days.We were so lucky to see this amazing animal in our lifetime.
I remember knocking off from college early to watch the race in the bookies as a 16 year old. It seemed as though everyone in there had backed Dessie that day in 1989 when he won the gold cup...will never forget it
Wonderful, versatile horse and a magnificent jumper
Horse racing died with Desert Orchid. The last of his kind. No matter how many times you watch this you're either in tears or on the verge of it. We should also think of poor Ten Plus. A giant of a horse and another great.
wot a horse amazing miss u dessie xx
The great Desert Orchid and Red Rum are racing legends.
Is anyone else screaming their lungs out for Dessie and it’s 2020 .....legend
Without doubt the best i've seen loved Dessie
The best horse I ever rode in cross country and endurance was a big Appaloosa with an enormous jump and a tendency to plough through fences he didn't feel warranted jumping. When I see Desert Orchid it reminds me of that very horse and his fondness for going “Nah.. you know what? We're not going over that one Charlotte waste of energy we're going through” and I'd try like hell to gear him up and go over but alas it didn't always work.
I just ducked and braced for the inevitable sound of snapping, cracking and bits of shit and fence flying all over as he ripped clean through it like a snow plough. If only we had GoPro helmet cams back then.
Murder sometimes but what a horse.
Apart from the great Red rum Dessie was the best it brings a😢to my eye when i watch these reruns what great memories ❤🎉
Dessie, was is and always will be a legend.
R.I.P dessie you will always be the best
Im a great Rummy lover but desert orchid is something to
Loved him
Simply the best our Great grey
the last words in the excellent book by his owner Richard Burridge: "the great grey horse".
We all have our favourites but for me it’s the ones that turn up and track any going any distance and can win, desert orchid one man and Kauto star my three favs
dear old dessie
Beautiful Dezzy 😍
My favourite horse the legend dessie
My #1 fav horse what a legand
What a ticker! And such a charismatic horse with his great white mane an tail and proud head. Did he ever race in the Grand National at Aintree?
No. Although he started as a 2 miler with good speed he could have stayed the GN distance, but with his success he would have been saddled with a weight handicap that would have become more of a struggle, and as a left handed course it was less suited to him (though ironically Aintree was his 1st left handed win). Also he had become so popular there was pressure not to risk him (and threats too). He achieved enough and is a legend.
Loved dessie
God that horse had some great nicknames in commentary
Vrryyy fortunately tooo seen he smashing, he's missed, coreee
The reason people loved Dessie was because he not only won but earned the win.
Dessie ❤️
In a year he should get 90,000 wins
Who could forget Dessie
Dessie,frankel,stars
Dessie and Dawn Run.. me 2 favourite gee gees
That Irish national there was people all over the course at the finish and loose horses running, people just stood there while a loose horse bolted along 3 feet away from them??? Wtf lol
Cracking 😉
Dessy red rum ambley house best
I think adding extra weight to a better horse to level? the field?
or for whatever reason is the most absurd and chicken shit practice!
If the horse is better by far than the others make it carry enough extra
weight that maybe one of the others could win?
Only in horse racing is the super athlete ripped off this way!
The 1973 Grand National was a travesty- poor Crisp ran and jumped brilliantly but after the final fence the weight handicap took its toll, he was exhausted and Red Rum caught him just before the line. No horse since Dessie has been so handicapped. I think the handicap is to make races more interesting since with fences and their risk (and smaller prize money than the flat) there are often fewer horses and with the greater distance than on the flat, difference in ability can create bigger gaps by the end- the field would be more stretched, finishes less exciting.
ARKLE Gave away 2 stone and won by 1 length but desert orchid gave the others 2 stone and won by 12 lengths and arkle was the greatest, yea get real. good horse nothing more.
To say you have not got a clue is the most underassessment in history, poor dear.
Barbara Dyson you, my dear, definitely need to go into politics, you’ll fit in perfectly.
Arkle was great, Dessie was great. Both had magnificent ability and wins, both had handicaps greater than horses since. What i love about Dessie is his personality, leading from the front, his fighting spirit and courage; the Cheltenham Gold Cup 89 was one example of that incredible will, there were others, as you know.
The long running are disgraceful
Gary Thomas who people who run marathons are disgraceful or is it other endurance runners?
ONCE AGAIN O SULLIVAN IS BLIND BESIDES TEN PLUS GOING DOWN AND BLIND MAN COULDN;T HAVE MISSED THE OTHER HORSE GOING DOWN BLACK SHIRT AND RED CAP. WHO IT WAS HAVE NO IDEA. OSULLIVAN WAS CRAP
What cruel sport, every replay has death injuries, torture and unnecessary. Whoever enjoys this have no excuse.
Hearing those horses names from the 80s and 90s brings tears to my eyes, and a lump in my throat.
exactly doing the same thing to me.
Love the old names 🧐
Absolutely loved Dessie, good old days.
