I still have a 2008 Mac that works, iLife was amazing! iMovie and GarageBand were lightyears ahead of Windows at the time, I'd bet Apple is largely responsible for a lot of creators beginnings. Love your channel!
It's worth mentioning that iWork itself also grew out of ClarisWorks/AppleWorks, which was a similar suite of applications for classic macOS (which in turn were based on AppleWorks from the Apple II series). Numbers actually still feels a lot like I remember the AppleWorks spreadsheet working.
There was a tool called Front Row. It featured a shared gui for both audio and video and was bundled with a remote control and some devices (Mac mini) so could have a media player and Apple TV without sitting at a desk. Gone several years ago.
I’ve only found your channel around 2 days ago and I’m already binge watching all of your content! Every single video here is somehow related to a topic I’ve always wanted to learn more about. This channel is such a gem, really!
i remember the iCards one .. they had a really cool and warm-feeling video showing these hand made, traditionally pressed cards .. i always wanted to order one
What about Apple Aperture? It used to be a solid competitor/alternative for Adobe Lightroom, it was actually used for so many professional photographers but then one day, all of a sudden, the software disappeared
I remember (and had) both disc versions of iLife and iWork on a 2010 Macbook Pro. Never saw much utility in iLife, but both Pages and Keynote let you create much more beautiful documents and presentations than anything Microsoft was offering at the time.
I used to love the 2000's MacOs and iOs interface's (up to iOS 6). Along with Windows XP and Vista/7. The skeuomorphic design along with those uplifting and utopic Frutiger Aero aesthetic defined the childhood of a lot of people from our generation (Gen Y and early gen Z) 😌
God, iLife was so cool to me as a kid. So organized and cohesive. Never had a mac when i was younger and now i do, and honestly it does feel organized and cohesive haha. Mail, calendar, notes, reminders, iMovie, GarageBand, etc... stock apps are great.
iWork is a rewrite of legacy Clariswork while iLife was based digital hub strategy and iMovie was the first launched in 1999 as the consumer version of Final Cut Pro.
My first own computer was Apple Powerbook G4 and later I got iLife 'O5 for it. Garageband was really fun software and iMovie HD was a really easy-to-use video editor. My later computers have been Linux or Windows PCs so I have tried to find a good alternative to iMovie but all other video editors have been very annoying to use even though they have had tons of more features than iMovie HD had.
I really miss iCards, and the long-lost mail templates for occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. "Devolution" is the best description I can come up with.
Ah, iLife '03. That was the first time I ever edited video on a computer using iMovie. I believe it came bundled with generic footage of a family washing their dog you could use to practice with. Fun times.
Wow this brings back memories of Highschool nearly 15 years ago. Wild how much has changed in terms of digital and internet-based education for kids now and will continue to evolve into the 2030’s and 40’s!
This brings a smile to my face! I remember all of those things. Actually, that's how I remember Mac, since I was one of those who grew up with it and then "switched" the other way, in 2011. Well, I had to go back to my Mac for certain stuff for a couple more years, because I was so well-versed with the software. I particularly remember how they butchered iMovie in one of the releases, making the timeline non-linear. That's when I stepped up to Final Cut Express. Came to think of AppleWorks as well, so I went to see if I could find footage of it. You don't happen to have made a vid on it many years ago? Because it sounded so much like you, haha. Cheers!
What a high quality video, I wasn't expecting the likes, views, and subscribers to be so low! It's on par with many other youtubers that are much larger!
I remember iLife very well. I got my first Mac in 2008. I want a Mac since I was about 12...finally got it at age 37. That white plastic MacBook was amazing and I even blogged to iWeb. Not only did OS X set Apple apart from Windows but the iLife Suite and Mobile Me (along with iPhone 3G) just added even more value on top. It was a glorious tool set that let you do so much and make the Mac a home productivity machine like no other.
There was also the short lived Mac Box Set, an upgrade package that included both Mac OS X, iLife and iWork. There were Leopard and Snow Leopard versions of it.
I miss the KISS iWeb software. Even without feature update I wish Apple had updated it to work with 64 bit macOS/UNIX, and now M series microprocessors.
Great video! There's always more, though haha. You forgot about AppleWorks (previously ClarisWorks), which was the predecessor to iWork (and you could argue was the successor to the old original MacWrite, MacPaint, MacDraw software of the late-1980s and early-1990s).
You’re making me feel old hahah. Solid video though! I actually don’t totally remember iTools but iLife was my entire childhood and I always thought .mac looked sick but had no reason or means of paying for it.
it's so weird thinking of software I used daily and thought nothing else of now being considered old and obscure. I remember making sites in iWeb and burning disks in iDVD
Back in the day, getting the iLife apps was a great deal. Garageband and iMovie were especially cool and were instrumental in the early days of web content creation back when most people on CZcams were just teens playing around on the family computer. Without free and easy to use tools like that, making videos online would have been much less accessible.
Great overview, I'd have loved to have heard more in depth about softwares such as iWeb, Aperture, Sherlock, how many users complained about the transition of pages 09 to the later versions for example. But cool video!
0:27 I am using this wallpaper right now, the last wallpaper of Mac OS Tiger, on a M2 mac. It remains me of those lovely time of 2005, which I have never experienced.
I actually have a really old iMac running Mac OS X tiger and I learned all about these old services and applications and even got my hands on iLife 08, it’s really cool to see this old tech and to use it, i gotta get IWork 08 now and iMovie for the iMac lol
Miss the Frutiger Aero designs of yesteryear. I'm surprised the later version of iWork still has some semblance to it (it's not flat design and has that glossy look that Frutiger Aero is known for).
I remember all of these. Iwork 2013 was the last version I used, haven't owned a Mac since 2014, but I've not owned a computer since. Have done everything I needed on iPad, galaxy tabs & multitude of ios devices as well as android devices.
ah memories, i signed up for iTools the day it was released and then payed the $99 a year fee for .mac. been using that same email address all these years!
ilife and iwork still exist ! they just are bundled in with all apple products now - they still have ilife and iwork '09 ! iphoto has been turned into photos , and idvd is now a standard DVD burning, imaging, and viewing application that's bundled in with the macs coreservices folder :)
Keynote was the first "iWork" app to be released. Then, the first real version of iWork included Keynote and Pages. It wasn't until the third version that Numbers came out... Pretty cool video!
IIRC there was also iWork ‘11…not sure what the differences were between it and ‘09 but I remember documents not being cross-compatible for some reason.
That bit with Steve Jobs doing a post-mortem of the suboptimal MobileMe release is really interesting, that kind of self-reflection sounds like it played an important role in how they constantly evolved. I wonder if Apple still has that kind of culture today.
In 2012 (after Jobs died), Tim Cook fired Scott Forstall due to the Maps fiasco. They did a similar thing where they basically put out a PR statement about how it wasn't up to their standards. And while Jony Ive did voluntarily leave Apple, there's rumors that the infamous butterfly keyboards might have played a role in that decision. So Apple does seem to still admit defeat on occasion.
Since I go back to 1985 and 512K, I miss Write, Paint, Draw, etc. While more recent apps are more powerful, they’re actually harder to use, and even less intuitive.
your videos strike a mix of nostalgia and just plain interest to me, great work!
Thank you! :)
I still have a 2008 Mac that works, iLife was amazing! iMovie and GarageBand were lightyears ahead of Windows at the time, I'd bet Apple is largely responsible for a lot of creators beginnings. Love your channel!
Garage band is still the most intuitive recording software I've seen.
I also have a 2008/9 iMac that works - Garageband changed my life 🥹
Same with front row and Snow Leopard and no password!
Aperture is also somewhat forgotten but was a great professional photo software that I wish they still supported and updated.
Agree. Really loved using it. I wish they would bring it back.
I like how concise and straightforward your videos are; things that countless other CZcams channels lack. Keep it up!
They're concise yet packed with details!
They're superficial yet trivial!
It was basically the original AppleTV GUI for Mac
Ye, it's like the Apple version of Windows Media Centre
Your channel is my exact niche interest when it comes to software, design, and so on. Thank you for these contributions!!!
Can you rate Mac OS design eras: Primitive, Platinum/Color, Aqua, Skeumorphic, Flat Transition (only mavericks), Flat, and iOS-like
System 7 was an era of its own
6 months later lol
skeuomorphic reigns supreme
Platinum is where it's at
Mavericks was more skeuomorphic than flat
I’ve only found your channel around 2 days ago and I’m already binge watching all of your content! Every single video here is somehow related to a topic I’ve always wanted to learn more about. This channel is such a gem, really!
I love your videos 🤗 You don't have many but I enjoyed every single one of them.
Thank you!
i remember the iCards one .. they had a really cool and warm-feeling video showing these hand made, traditionally pressed cards .. i always wanted to order one
I love your channel, watching every video now. Not many channels focus on things from the early 2000s
Stumbled upon your frutiger video and ive been hooked since
4:16 am I the only one that thinks that iWork 05 looks like the cover to a Pixar film
This channel covers such lucrative tech topics. Thanks for the excellent videos 👍
True.
I miss that stuff.
this. channel. is. AMAZING. keep up the great work, with each video im hanging onto your every word and i just discovered it yesterday!
Love your vids, so well produced
I just discovered your channel, I LOVE IT, you talk about the things I wanna hear, I really enjoy your content c:

Cool stuff:) thanks for the flashback and nostalgia
I’m soo happy I found this channel!
iWork is a rewrite of legacy Clariswork while iLife was based digital hub strategy and iMovie was the first launched in 1999 as the consumer version of Final Cut Pro.
Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I just saw you got 1,000 more subscribers from yesterday to today, congratulations on being rewarded for your hard work!
Damn, this is taking me down some nostalgic paths... :)
Fun times.
I didn't know what to expect for your next video, but I am pleasantly surprised. Snow Leopard is the best operating system ever in my opinion.
Wow this brings back memories of Highschool nearly 15 years ago. Wild how much has changed in terms of digital and internet-based education for kids now and will continue to evolve into the 2030’s and 40’s!
Man your videos are amazing keep them up! 💯

Great vid, I never heard of .mac before! Would love to see other forgotten software, hardware, anything!
bruh your channel covers literally everything i love i stg lol ill do any video backround music if you want
This is a pretty well done video!
What a high quality video, I wasn't expecting the likes, views, and subscribers to be so low! It's on par with many other youtubers that are much larger!

iLife music assets exist within Soundtrack Pro 3's SFX/music library. It's not forgotten entirely; just lacks usage.
here before this channel blows up
There was also the short lived Mac Box Set, an upgrade package that included both Mac OS X, iLife and iWork. There were Leopard and Snow Leopard versions of it.
This channel is satisfying asf
I miss the KISS iWeb software. Even without feature update I wish Apple had updated it to work with 64 bit macOS/UNIX, and now M series microprocessors.

Oh my, you take me back.
never heard of iwork until today thanks
I was an original iTools user so I’ve lived through it all. I kind of miss homepage and iWeb.
Also from 2005-2014, a pro counterpart to iLife’s iPhotos was Aperture, just as Final Cut Pro was their pro counterpart to iLife’s iMovie.
And they really burned their bridges when they abandoned it leaving users (and buyers) up S.C..
Thanks for your video. That made me think of my past…
Ayo i habe no idea that this exists, thank u for making dis video
iWork to get through all these videos after I recently discovered this channel
I do remember those two, so much so that i still use a three-letter email address on icloud dating back to mobile me
You’re making me feel old hahah. Solid video though! I actually don’t totally remember iTools but iLife was my entire childhood and I always thought .mac looked sick but had no reason or means of paying for it.
4:38 In nowadays Currency, iWork costs $ 79 which if we converted to Rupiah it's equivalent around Rp. 1.230.000.
I’d totally forgotten about iLife that’s such a blast of nostalgia
it's so weird thinking of software I used daily and thought nothing else of now being considered old and obscure. I remember making sites in iWeb and burning disks in iDVD

Your videos are awesome ASF
GarageBand is how I got my start with daws and music creation in general.
I now use Studio One and Fruityloops for my stuff now.
Great overview, I'd have loved to have heard more in depth about softwares such as iWeb, Aperture, Sherlock, how many users complained about the transition of pages 09 to the later versions for example. But cool video!

I am using this wallpaper right now, the last wallpaper of Mac OS Tiger, on a M2 mac.
It remains me of those lovely time of 2005, which I have never experienced.
it’s interesting how the iTools icon became the Network settings in Big Sur and Monterrey
your channel has all the random odd shi im interested in
Love your channel
I actually have a really old iMac running Mac OS X tiger and I learned all about these old services and applications and even got my hands on iLife 08, it’s really cool to see this old tech and to use it, i gotta get IWork 08 now and iMovie for the iMac lol

I remember all of those. I guess I‘m getting old.
You can go back even further than 2000 to Apple’s first online service called eworld which operated from 1994 to 96. pre-macOS though system 9
This is so vauage & paralleled well for me lol.
ah memories, i signed up for iTools the day it was released and then payed the $99 a year fee for .mac. been using that same email address all these years!
*whispers* I never forgot you, iLife 06
good video. I grew up with those kind of apple events and not apple airpods or speakeres. Was a good software
This channel is so goated ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Nice video!
omg so many memories unlocked 😂
I still have iLife and iWork DVDs in my collection
ilife and iwork still exist ! they just are bundled in with all apple products now - they still have ilife and iwork '09 ! iphoto has been turned into photos , and idvd is now a standard DVD burning, imaging, and viewing application that's bundled in with the macs coreservices folder :)
Appleworks:"What about me?" *cricket chirps*
Keynote was the first "iWork" app to be released. Then, the first real version of iWork included Keynote and Pages. It wasn't until the third version that Numbers came out... Pretty cool video!
IIRC there was also iWork ‘11…not sure what the differences were between it and ‘09 but I remember documents not being cross-compatible for some reason.
4:13 iWork was a Competitor of Microsoft Office, but from Apple.
I originally used iMovie and some other tools from the iLife package long time ago with my old MacBook Air running on 10.6.
Thank you
I got my email name the moment iTools was launched. Within an hour. And 22 years later I’m still with it!
No political references, and dose videos of old tech and aesthetics from my childhood? you've earned a sub
Lived all eras! Since 1998
I remember iLife, it was nice.
Good videos

Is am surprised you didn’t mention Aperture. This one was the saddest loss for me.
i really REALLY like your voice it seems. im amaze.
I still use iWork 09’ on my 2011 Macbook Pro. It’s interface for Pages is better than the new ones.
Did… did people really not know this? Am I old because I miss iPhoto?
Since I go back to 1985 and 512K, I miss Write, Paint, Draw, etc. While more recent apps are more powerful, they’re actually harder to use, and even less intuitive.
Huh these were obscure. Thought they wouldn't be too new to me, not an Apple guy but I do like learning about them on occasion.
