Moissanite is one of the most popular and realistic diamond alternatives available today, but is does have both fans and skeptics. Is Moissanite the right option for you? the answer might be somewhere in this video.
What we are looking in this video is more info than the last video featuring Moissanite (in response to questions and comments, interesting facts, pros and cons, and some buyer info to help if you are looking to buy.
Here is an article I mentioned:
    www.thejeweller...
    Clear Lab grown gemstone
Simulant and Alternative are not bad terms. not derogatory-just the way to explain they cover the same ground. Meant to share the same spot. Diamonds are still way more know/it’s the “original”
REMEMBER- you can buy whatever you want- that is the beauty of all these options. there are a lot of preference and opinion. I see people get almost angry at others options (like diamond)”they’re overpriced” “they’re expensive”. Guess what--You don’t have to buy it!
    Interesting facts.
Can be found in Meteorites. doesn’t seem to be found outside of these instances
Has two different types of crystal structure: Cubic and hexagonal
Cubic is basically more “diamond like”, BUT it can’t be commercially produced at this time. have trouble growing in reasonable sizes and color(more yellow)
Everything available to the average consumer is the hexagonal version. You/we are really only speaking to the hexagonal version when we discuss Moissanite.
YES it IS a diamond “simulant” “Alternative”-not sure why people believe this to be derogatory? That is just how we describe them objectively.
-While it does occur naturally(in rare instances), I don’t know anyone who owns any. it’s basically in a museum. You own a stone that was created, because people love diamonds and want “alternatives.” It doesn’t take away from what it is, it is just What IT IS.
PROS and CONS- to be fair we will start with CONS and end on a positive note
    CONS
-Not as hard or tough as diamond. YES it is close, but no cigar. If you compare it directly to diamond, there is still no contest.
    PRO and CON?-
Lab grown. Less expensive, more reliable supply, BUT it’s not all sunshine. propionates of Lab Grown say it is more ethical, traceable and
Means it is not natural and some see this as positive while others want the romance, value and rarity of natural stones.
    Pros
Very tough, very hard still lags behind diamond in my observations
explain why Moissanite is rated Excellent on many charts vs diamond very good.
Inexpensive compared to natural diamond should more fairly be compared to lab grown diamond, but is still less expensive.
    - Can look very good, but remember there are different qualities and there is even less standardized grading than diamond.
IF YOU ARE BUYING-what to watch for.
It has come down in price, but be mindful who you are buying from if you have any concerns other than just price. I have seen a lot of online retailers using Moissanite in the name, only to be selling CZ. --The ethical and environmental considerations of some manufacturers is basically non existent. they are just selling- as cheap as possible.
Use the same general criteria as you would with diamond 4 Cs. ( i am thinking of making more detailed videos on each of the 4 C s. Let me know if that is something that interests you in the COMMENTS?)
I think dealing with a reputable independent jewelers in best, BUT if you are going to buy online and/or you just want to support the channel I will provide some links below to sources and companies I feel confident in how they operate.
